I can honestly say that I was so foolish with the student loans. It was not so much that I needed the money to pay for tuition, it was because they offered it and I took it. Now I owe about $70k. I hate it. I wish I could go back in time and just say "heck no".

NurseTrishaH, Would you suggest a new graduate working for the military? I see that there are postings for army nurses. Also how long is the hiring process?

Okay I just got my license yesterday! I was so excited!! I have been looking for jobs but never seem to get call backs. Everyone wants an RN. I had kind of psyched myself into believing that once I got my liscense the job search would be a little easier. Now the reality is setting in; I may not be able to get a job in NC. Everywhere they are looking for at least one year of experience. How are you suppose to get this experience if no one is willing to hire you? Even the temp agencies have the audacity to ask for one year of experience! I think I am going to have to take a job outside of nursing and just go back next fall for RN. That way at least I will have a better chance. I can't afford to relocate; so it really sucks!!

I took the test on Tuesday and stopped at 85. I did the trick and it would not let me sign up for another exam. Well I paid that $7.95 and guess what???? I PASSSSSSSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So the trick does work!

I agree check out the curriculum and definitely check out how your clinicals are going to be set up (how many weeks and location). Those clinicals are important for learning those skills you need and for networking. At that price, they better be offering a guaranteed job after graduation. A lot of schools are for profit; for example Devry. Sometimes these schools/private companies make it easier to get admitted, but they will charge an arm and a leg. I would suggest a community college. To be honest $32K is pretty much what an LPN may start off with...if they are lucky because I have seen them go as low as $27k. Also right now it's hard to get a job as a LPN rookie. Many employers are looking for at least 2 years of experience and you still will not make as much as the RN. If you are going to stay in your area I would suggest looking at the job opportunities. I go to a community college and the whole program is about $3k. This includes the tuition, books, uniforms, etc. I will be graduating in six more weeks and not for sure where I am going to work because even the RN graduates are having a hard time finding a job!

I was wondering has any of the new LPN graduates found full time jobs? There are always job postings for RN openings, but never an LPN. Unless it's a nursing home or an agency. Am I just wasting my time? Should I just work for a year and reapply to the RN program for next summer and possibly graduate Spring 2011? Or should I stay on course and graduate as a LPN Summer 2010?
