Medical marijuana, role of the nurse, professional organization
You all shoould watch the documentary by Dr. Sanjay Gupta called Weed. It came on CNN on 8-11-13 but you can probably find it online or catch a rerun. It was very interesting, showing how marijuana basically helped save a 5 year old little girl's life in Colorado and helped some other people with their health conditions. They explained the chemical breakdown of it and how it affects the brain, etc.

Missed visits/no answer
Well, I was reading the procedure on the Labor Board's website and it stated that the complaint is confidential and they won't even reveal to employer whether a complaint was filed. They will interview different employees and look at other employee's pay records also during the investigation. It sounded like our labor board sometimes do random investigations of some companies and basically it sounds like employer won't know for sure whether they've been reported or whether it is random. That is why I thought employer wouldn't know who reported it. But I don't know for sure, just going by the way I interpreted the website. I'm trying to figure out if it is worth it or not. Thank you so much for your input. Any more information is greatly appreciated.

Missed visits/no answer
From my understanding reports to labor board are confidential. How would they know who reported it if it has happened to the majority, maybe all of us? Just curious.

Missed visits/no answer
The agency I work for pays an hourly rate, but if we miss a visit during the week they want us to see the patient on Saturday or we will not get paid the hour for that visit or however many visits it may be= how many hours taken out of our check. Is this even lawful when it is not per diem or per visit it is hourly and Saturday is not a scheduled work day?

Dilema: Hourly or Per Visit
chenoaspirit, If you don't mind, I would like to know what were your wages per hour compared to per visit? Our company is getting ready to do the switch to per visit rate and they claim we will make more money, but I don't know yet

taking call
So what do you all think about being on call for seven days, no pay for having the beeper, no hourly pay for going out if needed- only get mileage pay, but you will get one day off with pay the next week after your call week to take the place of call pay? Does this sound decent? And it has been said that the nurses usually don't have to go out, but in some cases they might? I just want to know if I'm being taken advantage of. It is an hourly pay job with no extra money for OASIS and all that. 6-8 pts. per day supposedly.

Being on call

taking call
I start home health on Monday. This is my first home health job. How is it being on call for a week at a time. Do you get called to go out more than not or can most calls wait or be handled on the phone? Thanks I would really like to know. And BTW does PT stand for Physical Therapy or what?

Want to be Home Health Nurse
FlaHomeNurse, I am just curious, since you are a DON I figure I could ask you this.... Would you hire a new grad nurse that has 6 months experience in the Operating Room to work in Home Health? I have heard of people starting with no experience at all.

Anyone started in Pediatric Private Duty Nursing without experience?
Thanks to you both for the information. I had chickened out for a while, but I think I am going to go for it.

So overwhelmed..any advice?
I am a new RN trying to get into home health and I see that some people complain about all of the paperwork and time it takes, and not being fairly compensated. I want to know why some or shall I say most nurses wait until they get home to finish paperwork instead of doing it in the patient's home or doing it in between each patient (like in the car or something)? I am just trying to get an understanding before I get into it. Please help me understand!:sstrs:

For all of you home health veterans out there, I would like to know if it is best to work for an agency Full Time- Hourly or Part Time- Per visit? I am not currently working and I'm trying to get into home health. I would really like the flexibility. Which is the best way get paid and have flexibility?
