I'm Being Disciplined for Looking Up My Own Labs
Has dawned on you yet that someone higher up in the hospital was looking at your labs (that probable had no legal right too) in order to come across the fact that you had accessed them?

Need advice, feeling really bummed :(
It depends is it your fault or an exceptionally hard instructor. If you going to take the same instructor, then by all means finish the class. This way you will know exactly what to expect next time around. You normally get 2-3x max. to get a passing grade in the class. If you only get two chances then I might withdrawl, !@#$ happens and you don't want to blow your career on an A&P class; otherwise, roll the dice. You don't want to be holding yourself back with pre's. The idea is to get into nursing school. C's earn degrees and no one has ever asked my what GPA I received after nursing school. The best grade will count on your GPA, and you'll never have to explain to anyone why you got a "D" first time around.

Quit my 2nd nursing job in Oncology!
Don't let anyone make you feel bad. When was the last time they gave you two weeks notice before they let you go! Just come up with a good excuse and be able to fire it off when the necessary time arises! Dave

Waiting for the phone to ring!!
Hey, Congratulations Thumper! I've always been a super lucky guy getting jobs. Once I get into the door for an interview I end up always getting the job - knock on wood. Just a suggestion, but if you happen to have his E-mail address I would definitely without hesitation send him off a Thank You e-mail letter. Do anything you can do to get your name on the end of his tongue first thing in the morning - even if it's a very brief Thank You phone call make him think about you. Don't worry Baby Girl I sense that you have this thing all wrapped up@ Dave :bowingpur

Waiting for the phone to ring!!
Did they tell you if they were or had included administration, secretarial, dietary, custodial, lab and x-ray...in the 12:1 ratio's? I'm thinking from time to time if nursing isn't paying attention they get included in the ratios!

Am I worrying too much?
Frankly you have every right to feel Frantic. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed and scared right now just reading the post! It won't take much of anything to throw a wrench into everything. Hi... I have a question. How do other small facilities ie less than 50 residents staff the floor with CNA's and TMA's? And is the charge nurse required to cover a med cart,in addition to taking care of all the documentation, take care of blood draws, the normal stuff a charge nurse is to do? The reason I ask is this... I am the day charge ( and new to the position also) for a facility with 42 residents. Tomorrow I am scheduled to work as charge, and also do a med cart along with the usual Monday stuff. I also have a TMA on a med cart and 5 aides on the floor. I just started in the day charge position a week ago. I was the night charge nurse previously. I'm just not sure how I'm gonna get all the things done that I need to get done in addition to doing the med cart! Since I am the only licensed staff, I will also have to do all the insulins, the feedings and dressing changes too! Am I being too uptight about having to do this, or am I worrying over nothing? I'm nervous about it, and knowing the staff I'll be working with, I'll hear about being short staffed all day long..... heard it already today! Thanks... a frantic nurse!

Has anyone done this? Became a Paramedic first and then an RN? Is it a good idea ?
Spend some real-time figuring this one out for you. Where I hail from it would be a serious waste of time almost two years worth. RN's can CLEP out of EMT-P, but EMT-P's can't CLEP RN School. And, even RN's can't CLEP basic EMT

Hahahaha, "Be the better person", hahahahaha - oh please. Pickle, gambling at work can most certainly get you fired though. I work addictions if you need some referrals I'll be more than happy to assist you.

too little to be a nurse?
Size doesn't have a lot to do with it, but you do have to stand up for yourself. Let him know if he drops dead in front of you that you'll have to walk away since he thinks your to small to do chest compression, and even if you start CPR you'll have to call administration to make sure it's okay. What's he do for a living you need to come back with something like how can a nasty condensating bigot like yourself be in sales and make any money. If your still a student you may want to pass till you get the license - don't let these people talk to you like that!

Which Hospital is the BEST for NEW GRADUATE ?
Do you realize this is a board assessable around the world. You really need to narrow things down to maybe a zip code. :balloons:

Hateful ER Docs
Please, quit telling Pam to do a 1:1 :argue: . It obviously hasn't worked in the past - he'll eat her alive if she tries :smiley_ab. How big is your ER? You take all your staff from a couple of shifts surround him and have a 12:1 :deadhorse. HE'LL LISTEN! :biggringi Infer that if he isn't nice you'll throw a blanket party out back!:lol_hitti Let him know he has one last chance to be tolerable. If remains the same you'll make him dot his "I's" and cross his "T's". Question every order as if you can't read it :bowingpur. And take no more verbal orders make him write it all down . It is the ER you don't have to take verbals it's only done for convenience  Federal law states you have the right to work in a hostile free environment . I always jumped at every opportunity to let these folks know I worked there They were only contract labor :yelclap:

That's because we don't have a need to check on the dx cause we're always right. Besides I would hate to have to make you stop and answer the phone you know in between the call lights, filling up water pitchers, passing trays, picking up trays, changing the beds. giving bed baths, switching out the grape jelly for the apple butter, making sure there's plenty of chairs for the company, making sure Granny gets it on channel 8 at noon, sure there feet are covered, oh it's time to pass out the trays again. Oh baby girl you know you can only cat fight with another girl too. Oh time to pass out trays again!

What was the MOST ridiculous thing a patient came to the ER for?
That's not completely true as long as you can pass them no real damage done. The only real problem with stones is if a blockage occurs. If your ureter completely blocks and urine backs up into your kidney that's where the damage comes from. Secondly you have just for emegancies such as this you always have a back up. No need to scare the poor thing like that. It's very painful and certainly can be an emergent situation.

Tweety your up aweful early you must just be hitting the pillow good nite man. A PCT is generally a step below a CNA. Then comes the 2 which is special powers given by whom ever. Any of these folks once taught how are perfectly capable and within their scope to present. I swear no disrespect Slob any day of week I would rather have old PCT drop a foley in me than a first time nursing student ;-) Read my last post friend respect these people.

Subclavian DVT
Cat Fight I'm not going to get into a big stink over this I'm putting 2 in and out of here. The symptoms couldn't be to awefully vague to warrant foley's, angio's , D-dimers...The described vague symptoms presented in the ED would be lucky to get a chest xray let alone seven thousand dollars worth tests.

Here's where I can insert my first rule of nursing self taught today only I'm going to give it to you for free. Being a CNA for years before I became an RN has given me the upmost respect for that position. I treat my support like angels and are just that. For instance one of my CNA's a 40 y/o guy who rides his bike everyday to work. (He was difficult to get to know when I first started) I make it a point when ever I can to throw his bike in the back of my pickup and give him a ride home and without a doubt when its raining. It's really no big deal I have to go his way to get home. This little deed is nothing to me, but it's the world to him. Really who wants to work 8 then ride there bike home at 0700 am. Like I was saying this little thing has made his whole day better. I've never had to ask but my rooms get stocked first thing at night. My patients always go upstairs first. The man knows when I don't make it to the cafateria for lunch and picks me something up. You could ask for a nicer guy or a better friend and it takes nothing out of my day. Where I was getting at Angel is that your your going to find there's a whole world of those first times out there and don't get caught up in that I'm the nurse therefore I should know more than the CNA's mentality. Surround yourself with secretaries and CNA's like the one who taught you how to do your first foley. Make sure you tell them everyday that your glad that they're working and thank them every chance you get for these are the people who can make you or break you. They can make you shine even when you don't and they require little maintance it's surprising how fair a simple ride home will get you.

How can you say you're not paid well?
I've gathered quite a stash of Dermabond through the years I plan on glueing them all together keeps them in one place. I thought I had a deal now I'm thinking maybe you can hook me up?

How can you say you're not paid well?
You can't expect the suits to think for themselves we must band together as nurses and provide them with loud shiny objects to muse themselves so that we can better provide them bonus' and incentive packages. Last year I received a $6000.00 sign on bonus if you think for a minute that I'm not going jump ship and grab the next six grand, then your hitting the pipe way to much. That's six staff members they could have given a grand to at Christmas time 12/$500.00 those are the people I want to work for. It really isn't hard to sensible ideas. I think the somehow the ties cut off oxygen to the brain.
