Novice ER Nurse needs help please
This post was absolutely perfect. Why not give us a class like this while in school perhaps the last semester. I would have taken that class in a heart beat.

Need your opinion please
Don't wait to start and congratulations.

Novice ER Nurse needs help please
Same thing happened to me. Never again mention any weaknesses or doubts about yourself because they will use it against you. In reality they are not weaknesses but in the ER apparently they are. As far as your goals and planning I am sure a more experienced nurse on here can help lead you it the right direction. Forever think and say only positive things when working with the staff. I was always told that nurses were afraid of over confident graduate nurses, well I think that is untrue when it comes the the ER. Just my opinion.

Ever Tried to get a Job outside Nursing?
If it is hard for you to find jobs that are not bedside with your experience then I guess there is not much hope for graduate RNs such as myself. I do not want bedside either as I recently found. And, well now I've been looking other places and they want 1-2 years experience which you have. I am so sorry that you are having a tough time but you are not alone. This economy is tough but we have to somehow make it through. Hang in there and keep trying.

Do you guys really hate nursing this much?
The beauty of becoming a nurse is that you do not have to do bedside nursing. If you do not like where you are then change it. Insurance, Elementary school nurse, Educator, Dr's office, IV team etc... Don't let the negative comments scare you.

Those that prefer to work with men
Sorry to say but the men in my department are patient with me and are always ready to teach. Women on the other hand give you the feeling that you just don't belong there. That is the experience I have gotten from these past 2 months. Very difficult to work with women.... Some women are just catty, manipulative, and vain. I Really hated to say this about women but I am just speaking of my own experience as a woman how I am treated by other women.

Resource RN/RN Assistant?
I don't know much about that position but I would take it if that is the place you want to be. Maybe after working there for awhile they will see your talents and put you in the position you want. At least you will have your foot in the door. Best wishes on whichever you choose.

Someone please help!!! Any info is helpful
I Studied the Hesi guide and passed the entrance exam, however on the exit Hesi I didn't study the guide (d/t finals) and almost passed but not quite. Thankfully at that time the school didn't require you to pass the Hesi in order to graduate (now they do). Definitely study the Hesi Review book. Many Blessings to you

This is not the ICU
This is my 4th week in the ER as a new graduate. My preceptor and instructor had a nice little talk with me, and I was told that this is not the ICU and that I do not need to thoroughly check all systems of each patient. Have any nurses here struggled to do speedy assessments and figured out a way to overcome it? Any advice much appreciated.

Health Care Reform: Should we all go per-diem?
That is amazing and so nice, it's an incentive to stay fit or become fit.

Mandated scrub colors
We had a choice and our staff of nurses voted for Navy Blue. I like it because navy blue is my favorite color.:)

I commend you for wanting more for you and your children. I hope that your lawyer can make this x-husband of yours give you the honor that you deserve. I pray that things get better from here on for you and your children.

Issues with a new job,,,insight and advice appreciated
So you take vitals slower than they do.....what a shocker. You have no experience and they have years on you. Honestly I think they are giving extra time because you asked for it and needed it. They've been training you so I don't think that they want to start training someone else. You sound like you are eager to do well and therefore you will. Hang in there I to am trying to develop the speed aspect. I just keep telling myself the economy is horrible and there are so many nurses looking for jobs so I better listen to their criticism and build upon that quickly. Many Blessings to you.

My Aching Feet
This is really great advice and kudos to your podiatrist who goes for cheap first. I told my nursing friends about the water bottle in the freezer idea and they loved it. Thank You for your time and advice.

My Aching Feet
Thank you, wow that is really intense. I am sure my insurance will cover that as well. Again thank you for the advice.

My Aching Feet
It is a biggie, I love checking on my patients constantly but with foot pain it makes it difficult. Thank you for the advice I am going to try all other recommendations and if all else fails then I will visit the Podiatrist. I wonder why it took awhile....what did you have to go through?
-
Do you identify yourself as a nurse when you or your family are a patient?
Only if they ask.
-
are we human .. really ??
After 5 years without a write up.....wow....pat yourself on the back, learn from this experience and keep on trucking.

need help deciding
I don't know much about Psyche except I worked there during my clinical rotation. In my opinion your personality would be a good fit d/t the fact you like to be in charge. You have to have a strong personality or else the psyche patients will take advantage. I tend to be a push over so it definitely wouldn't work for me, however it sounds like a great career choice for you. You can work your way up to management. Go for it! You will never know until you try. Good Luck!

Patient beds in hallways
I recently got a taste of what it feels like to have a patient in the hall. I had an elderly patient in a room waiting for x-ray results and then a young girl came in and I had to tell the elderly woman and her daughter that they had to be moved to the hall (explained why). So, I felt so uncomfortable because they had to watch us pass them by and give this young girl most of the attention. I understand why it has to be done but it was still very uncomfortable. This was in the ER I think it would be horrible on the floors. It was only my 2nd day as a nurse I guess I was probably the only nurse that felt this way.
