Dropping in real quick. I am black and every DaJuana I have ever met has been as well. Turns out the VP of my department has that name and is white as white can be. Blew my mind! How is that for stereotyping?

I am a current LVN student at AVC and sadly the LVN to RN bridge program depends on the school's funding. It is not a priority. You may well wait up to 3 semesters. Some of the professors are not so nice, 2 I can think of in particular. Others are fantastic. It is a rigorous program and you do have to be accountable for yourself. I would suggest if you have thin skin to look elsewhere. As a VN student, we are treated much differently than the RN students, and for that very reason, I would'nt attend AVC's RN program if you paid me to go. HTH.

I will be attended Antelope Valley College LVN program, I would suggest you go that route, it is much cheaper

Call AV College and speak to the nursing department. The CNA program there is excellent but since the town is so small you will have to go and sign up for the class at the crack of dawn and stand in a long line. But if you show your dedication you are certain to get in. Good luck!

The actual demand I cannot speak of. But I can say the jobs that pay more are the inpatient abstracting coding jobs. Get your inpatient certification and training, it will benefit you more as you are already an RN and you are more likely to be able to work from home.

Good luck, I know I am late on the response. I am trying to go to West Valley or North Valley, now I am hearing they only accept 15 students each year. DANG!

JEEZ no I sure didnt know they only accept 15 people~ DANG! I cant believe they cancelled your class. I am so sorry, but at least you get to finish. Have you found the classes to be challenging so far? I am going to apply in January as was suggested and hope for the best. I am done with my engligh pre-req's and I am taking algebra for my spring semester, so I should be set for the assesments.

I know this post if old, but can you tell me if it was difficult for your friend to get into the program here? I am looking to apply in Jan 09 for a September 09 start date.

I am actually going to apply here and at west valley occupational program in woodland hills in january 2009. I will keep you posted on if I am accepted.

Yes I know the difference in the certifications, trust me. I reviewed the information long and hard before I put the money into getting them. I have been coding for 8 years (inpatient, outpatient, acute, HCC, E/M, etc.) and I am well prepared for the CCS. I have always been able to find work with my CPC though, but I want the inpatient for the prestige it brings. I have a BA in biology and I am already in a program for the HIM. I know I have to graduate the program before I can sit for that certification as well. I love the field I am in and it has been very lucrative for me. Hope nursing goes just as well. Thanks for the information!

I will keep you posted, maybe we can do the classes together and offer some support. You may want to try College of the Canyons as well for the CNA

anytime you should also check your local junior colleges. they are much cheaper

How do you do the class for free?

I know the American Red Cross offers classes for $1450 and the class is one month long monday-friday 8a-5p. They are offered at the East L.A. Branch, Canoga Park and I forget the other. The number for information is (800) 627-7000.

Hi Missy, I live in Lancaster and commute to SFV right now. I am trying to get into the rn program but if I am wait listed I plan on going to one of the ROP programs in the valley for LVN, have you thought of that? Are you taking CNA at AV College? I know they have the classes.
