  1. Preceptorship where I work!

is a preceptorship a student nurse position? we have paid student nurse positions at my facility- just curious if this is the same thing
  2. Scary story I heard from some nursing students

Is it not the instructor's job to oversee that the students are doing things right? At least she caught it- eventually- but... double fail!
  3. Should I call?

Go for it! You'll either be found annoying or determined. Flip the coin and take a chance. At least you'll get your name out there.
  4. Am I being "dumbed down" in my current dept?

First- take a bite of humble pie. Second- no unit is going to dumb down anyone. You are simply becoming more proficient in the care of that type of patient. If you want to expand, then go elsewhere. But realize, going elsewhere isn't necessarily a st...
  5. To all the moms out there: How did you do it?

If you really want it, take out student loans. Use them for daycare.
  6. Pulmonary Artery Occlussion Pressure (Wedge)

  7. Night shift and daycare- ahh!

Somebody trying to feel superior by kicking someone while they're down? Your lack of empathy is unflattering. I never once felt she resonated "poor me." Have a heart or keep your callous, albeit unhelpful, thoughts to yourself. Moving on- MissKitty,...
  8. Nurses who also work as Paramedics??

I fear you will have a year or more of schooling ahead of you. Many states don't allow RNs to challenge the exam and a medic program is a year in length- if you already have the pre-reqs AND an EMT-B certification.
  9. Transition from Student to RN

Be prepared for it to go UNsmoothly
  10. What dangers would I be facing??

90% of lung cancers are due to smoking. Really, the threat is minute (as compared to all the other interesting bugs we are exposed to)
  11. Ugh! Had a Munchausen pt today

Why was his family informed? I doubt he approved that information to be released.
  12. My Two Cents

Ha! And, I bet you would like it if it were as easy to complete a nursing program as it is to complete a CNA program. Maybe we should all just buy a degree. Really, the standards are high for a reason. If you think it is hard to get in, just wait unt...
  13. RN going back to be a medical assistant

Not if you weren't hired as an RN. You are to work within the scope of the position in which you are hired. Sorry about your difficulty. But, I believe going back for an MA will be a waste of your time and money. I know you are getting desperate, b...
  14. Med Surg Tech Orientation from Hell!!

I would say that if you don't work while in nursing school now, you better be looking for something before you graduate. It is getting harder and harder for new grads to get hired, so having student nurse or unit tech experience can open doors. Many ...
  15. Uniforms and dress codes

We have a dress code with the different colored scrubs differentiating roles and I love it. It makes it fast and easy to find who you need.
  16. Help me find an ER job..... PLEASE!!!!!!

The ACLS and PALS should prove helpful. These courses are often included in new employee orientation and having them already puts you ahead of the game. Err... English...I don't know what that means. You can only get on orientation by getting hir...
  17. Transplant Nursing

At times those liver patients have been known to hit, kick, spit, scratch, and bite!
  18. Orienting New Grad advice

I have to agree with the orientee in that I would not chart a pain assessment at a time in which I didn't do it- even if your unit got docked by JCAHO. Sounds like you should be focusing on her integrity rather than nitpicking her to death.
  19. can family give pt unprescribed meds

If the prescription for vicodin is in his name (even if its an old one from another doc) they can feed it to him as they please, even if your doc doesn't like it. Do you know where they are getting the vicodin from?
  20. College requirements?

I've never heard of direct entry nursing program. You can declare yourself as a nursing major, but a program that let's you into the program without fulfilling any pre-requsites sounds sketchy.
  21. Which matters more, school name or degree?

They generally care more about YOU than whether you have an ASN or BSN or where you got it from
  22. ADN vs BSN What do I do now?

You DON"T have to have a BSN to get a masters degree. There are ASN-MSN programs (for example Indiana University School of Nursing) that often require 2 years experience, but NO BSN.
  23. Embarassing Question

So long as you don't disclose it, potential employers will be non the wiser to it. They cannot review your past medical records without your consent. Good luck in your future journeys
  24. Am I not cut out to be a nurse? Please Help!

You may have been holding your breath and bearing down as she was diggin around in your arm and elicited a vagal response that caused you to pass out. It wasn't that you couldn't stand the sight of blood or should avoid nursing. Follow your dreams -a...
  25. LPN or RN What should I choose?

Apply to both programs and go where you get accepted.
