Burlington County College Fall 2012
Hey, just wanted to know if you heard anything. I know it's late, but I just received my letter in the mail today for the advanced standing spots. I actually applied last year, was told no because I didn't have med adminstration so I just forgot all about it and was going to go the Excelsior route. So needless to say, when I received my letter today I was pretty surprised.

EC Philadelphia PA Area?
I'm in South Jersey, right near the bridge. I'm one class in so far. The only thing really holding me back is $$$. Let me know if you want or need a study buddy!

New grad jobs?
I graduated about a year ago and was in the exact same boat. I started by finding a new agency to take a chance on me. Then, I just applied EVERYWHERE. I finally got a part time job on a sub acute unit of all places and once I had a job, finding another one was a breeze. Sad to say, but look into the facilities that have a not too nice reputation, because they are more willing to hire a new grad bc experienced nurses don't want to work there. Good Luck in your search!!

EC Students Summer 2011 Group
Hi All! This thread has motivated me to register for my first exam. I graduated as an LPN about a year ago and I have been stalking similar threads since then, putting it off due to financial reasons. But what better way to earn more money than to get my RN?? So now I am registered for Transitions. I'm on a payment plan, so I can't schedule until next month when I'm done paying it off (Did I mention I was broke!) But I figure that should give me ample time to start studying and preparing. I already have most of the books and just bought a college network study guide from ebay for $40 (score!) So hopefully my goal is to do an exam every month or two until I'm done. All of my prereqs are done except for information literacy so I'm hoping to be done within a year. Good luck to you all!

New grad, new job in LTC
What has helped me the most was coming in a little early and flaging all of my blood sugars in my MAR so that I can knock those out first. It's going to be hard in the beginning until you get to know your residents. Also don't be afraid to ask questions. I keep some pink post its with me to write down things so I don't forget them later. If I see one someplace then it's like a big reminder to do something.

Philly Area LTCF's
I'm a recent LPN grad with very little experience. I've been sending my resume out to every facility that has a website. I was wondering if anyone knew of any facilities that may be hiring. I'm willing to commute to the suburbs if necessary, I just really need a job.

Endorsement Process
I'm in the process of endorsing from PA into NJ and I sent off my application on the 27th of Jan. I received my finger print letter today (suprisingly). I have my appt next Tues to get those done. Do you think the process will be a little faster than the 6 weeks since they seem to be moving fast right now?

Getting started with Excelsior College
I have a few questioins about EC that I was hoping someone could help me out with. I have most if not all of my prereqs already completed from a university. With that being said, do I still need to forward the school a copy of my LPN transcript even though it was at a vocational school and I don't need any of those classes to transfer over? Also, I plan on financing my enrollment fee. Does this have to be paid off completely before being able to start the third nursing class? Thanks, any help would be appreciated!!

Burlington CC waitlisted for spring 2011 reapply
I've applied already for Fall 2011. I am so anxious. I applied about a year and a half ago and got discouraged when I was waitlisted due to them not being able to locate my HS transcript. Since then I got my LPN from BCIT which I was hoping would help with my chances of getting in. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

St. Francis Medical Center School Certifiate leggit?
St. Francis awards you your RN diploma so to speak, your ADN will come from Mercer CC after you complete all of the necessary courses. Even if you already have a BA from some place else, not all of your credits will necessarily transfer or the school may have a few different Gen Eds that may not correspond to what you already have taken. Either way the school is definitly legit (I know one of the instructors), and you should not have a problem with a RN-MSN bridge program. Many of those don't even specify whether or not they want an ADN or BSN so you should be fine.

Burlington County College LPN/Advanced Standing
Hi, I'm an LPN looking to apply to BCC for the Fall of 2011. The people that I have spoken to at the school advised me that I would have the opportunity to skip Fundamentals and go into Nursing of Families which would make it easier to get in since they would have open spots due to students droping or failing out. My question is for anyone who has done this already or know someone who has. Is this information correct? I've been told in the past that I should get in since all my prereqs are done and was not accepted so I don't want to get my hopes too high. Any input would help. Thanks!!

PLEASE HELP BCIT!
I'm in the day program and intense doesn't begin to describe it. I was fired right b/f the beginning of class and it was a blessing in disguise. Granted we do get finished faster, but it is a lot of work. Clinical days for Westampton right now are Thursday and Friday, but not every Thursday and Friday. It will vary based on the course you are in. Generally, clinicals in one rotation last for about 4 weeks. The good part is that you get out earlier than a regular class day. If you have any questions let me know. I don't know much about the night class just that they only get the same 8 excused absences that we do b/f you are dismissed from the program.

Just got accepted to LPN School! What can I do to prepare?
My advise would be to take a trip to Barnes and Noble and browse through the nursing section. If you think you will have trouble with math, brush up on some stuff. If you haven't already had A&P pick up a review book for that so that you can be ahead of the game. Also Fundamentals is a beast due to the different way of looking at things and learning how to think critically. I would pick up a review guide for that also.

What kind the book you need to read or study first for LPN
I would definitely recommend a Fundamentals of Nursing preparation book. For myself and many of my classmates Funds was incredibly hard because it's a completely different way of looking at questions. I would take a trip to Barnes and Noble and try and find one that works for you.

ATI exams???
Your ATI's count as part of your grade??? For my school at the end of each class we take the ATI and based on our profiency level 1, 2, or 3, you get those points added to your final exam grade which is 20% of the class grade. So if you got an 89 for the final and received a 3 for profiency level your final exam grade will now be a 92. This has helped me a lot in maintaining my A average. I just took my peds and maternity ATI's today and they were pretty scary but I ended up doing pretty well on them. To prepare I would recomend looking over the ATI books and your class notes and in my opinon you should be okay.

lpn to rn bridge programs in NJ
I don't go to the program but I've been researching it for after I graduate from LPN school this summer. From what I know it's only a one year program, you need to have already passed your NCLEX-PN, and you have to take a placement test. They are also affiliated with Mercer County College so you can attain your ADN from there while earning your nursing diploma from St. Francis. You should check out their website, it has a lot of useful information. HTH

LPN at Lincoln Tech Vs. BCIT 2010
I'm so sorry to hear your story. In the end, only you know what's best for you. My only advise is that you get as much out of the program as possible. From what I hear LT is a lot of self study, just try and go above and beyond what they are teaching you because in the end graduating from the program will mean nothing if you don't have enough knowledge under your belt to pass the boards. Best of luck to you future SPN:nurse:

LPN at Lincoln Tech Vs. BCIT 2010
Well Congrats PTYME!!! That little postcard means you are in the program!! I don't know why they drag it out, I think they just like to torture you. Just make sure you get your hs transcripts in asap and get the background check done as soon as they give you the information. Just a heads up, Mrs. B (who you will meet at the interview) can be a little intimidating, but don't worry, you will be okay. Are you going for the day or night class? Westampton or Medford? I'm graduating from the Westampton day class in July:lol2:

LPN at Lincoln Tech Vs. BCIT 2010
BCIT does not offer financial aid, but what I did was start saving as soon as I found out I was accepted. The idea of being over 20,000 in debt after graduation from a sub-par school just did/does not sit well with me just for a LPN program that's not going to end in a degree. Maybe you should check out Camden County. I know they have an LPN program and they definitly have financial aid and you will save thousands versus going to Lincoln.

LPN at Lincoln Tech Vs. BCIT 2010
I would not recommend Lincoln Tech at all. BCIT has a better reputation and pass rate for the NCLEX. The tuition for BCIT is broken down into payments around every 3-4 months to give you time to save in between the payments. I am set to graduate from BCIT this July and I can definitly tell you it was worth every penny. You definitly learn your stuff and you don't have to worry about having to be in debt after graduation. The Lincoln Tech students that I met didn't even know some of the basic things that we learned in the beginning. Good Luck in your choice.
