High contact sports and nursing?
I'm a nurse and I play roller derby, and I never gave it a second thought! Its an incredible way to relieve stress and tension, and stay fit, be a part of your community and so many other amazing things... I encourage you to go for it! If anything, sometimes you will just have tp "pre-emptively" explain some bruises so that colegues and/or patients don't start to become concerned about your welfare lol! I have jokingly explained many times that no, I am not a victim of domestic violence - I play womens roller derby! (not that domestic violence is a joking matter - but you get what I am saying) ... Derby girls have "morals" just like any other athelete.. we follow codes of conduct, we are considered role models to many, participate and give back to our communities, just like basketball players, footbal players, etc... Good luck to the few of you who said you are thinking of it! Roller derby is an amazing sport and is growing in popularity at an incredible pace! You will become a part of an amazing sport, and so much more!!

New grad, new job in LTC
Hi! I am a new grad and I will be starting my first nursing job as a staff nurse in a few weeks in a LTC facility. I am nervous because I have been out of school for about 5 months and I feel like I have forgotten all of the hands on stuff I learned. I can only review textbooks so much, I just don't feel prepared. (I know in a way nothing can prepare me, it's so much on the job learning, etc) however I am just wondering if you all have any advise on how I can best be prepared and do the best possible job. I am doing things like reviewing the top prescribed drugs in nursing homes, insulin injections, s/sx of stroke, hyperglycemia, etc... am I on the right track? What else can you suggest? They also left my orientation "open" telling me I would shadow a nurse "until I felt comfortable".. which again makes me nervous.. I don't know if that should be one day, a few days, weeks? ??? What is the normal orientation / training time for a new grad in a new job? Thanks all :-) Hera

Pearson Vue Trick - Does it Work Every Time? Part 2
Hi all! I took my NCLEX-PN today and feel like vomiting. I can't seem to calm my nerves and can't think of anthing but my results! I got 85 questions, that were all incredibly hard and I felt like I was guessing at most all the questions. I had probably 6-10 sata ?'s, 5-6 math, and everything in between. I just kept thinking the whole time I was taking the test that I was bombing it. I walked out in tears and have been sick to my stomach since. I tried the PVT and I got the good pop up but I still can't calm down!! My state does quick results so I will know officially on Friday and will post my results. Good luck to all the others who are waiting in agony with me!

Can you begin applying for jobs before you actually graduate?
Hi! I am graduating as a LPN this summer, and wondering if it is advisable / acceptable to begin applying for positions before graduation? Any experience or feedback would be appreciated! Thanks!
