  1. It is a realilty where I work as well. Granted it is not a hospital, it is a ped clinic. The doc i work with is wonderful. She is very personable and very thoughtful. She discussed patients and is always willing to listen to nursing concerns and eager to explain anything. She is wonderful to learn from. It makes all the difference to work in an enviroment where your valued and respected.
  2. CNM, I think you are right on the money. First off, I do see nasty replies. Second, She simply asked what people thought of the idea of some sort of child care set up in the hospital. Thirdly, she went on then to ask what can someone in her situation do? Im pretty sure getting rid of her kids is not an option for her sadly to the thought of those who think her kids are like second hand smoke. Lastly, anyone who tells someone that they should not have their kids is a coldhearted human being. I do not agree with the idea of a child care set up in the hospital for various reasons, however, I cant imagine being so cold to someone who was obviously just stating an idea and asking for suggestions.
  3. I work for a pediatric group and we tell the parents to give motrin for 102 and up because its hard on the stomach and can cause some vomiting.
  4. Yes I would. I believe in a womans right to choose. Since I believe in it I would participate in it to support the choice being made by women. Im not saying its the answer for everyone, but like someone else stated earlier, The choice needs to remain an option for women and therefore I will support it.
  5. great post jay.
  6. ooops... so sorry for all those typos...
  7. I got pregnant unexpectedly my pracitcal nursing program. I had no idea if I would make it through or not.I was told I was expected to do everything that everyone else was, I totally understaood that. I did my work, I never missed class, I worked my butt off. I stood on my feet for 8 hours sometimes more, my ankles were over my shows some days with swellilng. I was assigned a MRSA pt with full protective gear and 12 bed sores to pack along with a busted colostomy bad,, this was right inthe middle of my nausea lol.... well i made it anyway..... i had the baby eight hurs after graduation.
  8. OMG.... I think we have the same patients...... do not explain to the nurse that your child is unable to take amoxacillin because everytime you mix it with Coke they throw it up violently. Do not decide to wear your brothers shoes after he has had a nasty foot fungus and be surprised that you now have it as well. Do not be surprised when you go to the Drs office, still wearing his shoes, cuz hes in jail and doesnt need them, and need a shot pcn in the butt. Do not spit or bite the nurse who is attempting to give you your adolescent Tetorifice shot. It tends to make them not be soo nice.
  9. I work in a Pediatric clinic and I wear character scrubs everyday. It makes it a little easier when a scared child comes in for immunizations or stitches. They seem a little more interested in my clothes and I dont come off as one of the regular nurses they have been held down by. A nice friendly smile and some cute scrubs goes over great with the kiddos.
  10. Ok. Id like to get my two cents in on this. I agree with almost everyone. I see both sides of it. I see that everyone has the right to pursue happiness and dreams. I also see that as a patient I may be uncomfortable with this nurse caring for me. Whether it is politically correct to say so or not. But our job is to care for our patients, and if a patient cant get past the gender issues with the nurse then there is no opportunity to provide care. When I was in nursing school the rules were so strict on dress code and hair length and perfumes to makeup. Nursing really is about rules and maybe there shouldnt be feelings of fearing what you do not know, but it still exists. As a nurse I have no probs working with anyone however as a patient I prob would prefer someone who made me feel comfortable.
  11. I took my course while in high school and it was the whole school year long.. 4 1/2 hours a day.
  12. Im so confused as how someone who loves and cares for others finds himself so above others. I think there is some type of issue that we dont all know about and honestly i dont want to know about, this whole thread has me sick at the hostility of one nurses feelings againt anothers. Whether you are a beside nurse or not, compassion doesnt come with a degree. Its in you or not. And to think you are christlike? come on now...
