  1. If your points are pretty high(24 or more) you can pretty much know you got in. I had 28 but still had the feeling I wouldn't make it but I did. Let me know if you get your letter today. I stalked my mail lady for weeks and then screamed all the way to my house when I got in:D. I would love to give you names of my favorite instructors but they do not allow names here. I can tell you tho we did not have a single BAD instructor. It was a great program. None of the instructors teach by intimidation they are kind, giving and always there for help. Be ready to study hard and long. Your going to make the best friends of your life. Take a lot of pictures for your graduation slide show. Looking back at pics from nursing three the night of graduation was priceless.....PM if you need anything. GOOD LUCK!!!
  2. just to let yall know I am a GCC grad and we got our letter on saturday of memorial weekend! they send them out sooner then they say. Hope yall get yours tomorrow!!! Oh and your gonna love the program. I cant say enough good things about the insructors.
  3. I take mine NCLEX in June and have no clue what the trick is!! Please shed some light or point me in the right direction ....please!! and congrats to all who have passed :)
  4. I was very blessed to find a job so quickly. I was offered a Gn spot at my dream hospital only 4 days after walking the stage. i take boards in June. I cant wait to start this new phase in my life. I am feeling very very blessed. Keep your heads high and pray!! Something will come along.
  5. Great post I will grasuate next semster and I will follow all the advice you just gave!!!
  6. We use the tape to label our meds so if we are giving more then one med we dont get them mixed up Due to the fact some pushes require it to be given over 5min where others maybe only 1 min. It makes sense I sure wouldnt want to push a med within one minute when it says give over 5 min yikes.....So yeah I completly understand why and what i did wrong thank you everyone who shared their stories it helps to know Im not the only one that has made mistakes
  7. I love DA... but where I keep getting confussed is your minutes does not cross out with minutes it crosses out with gtt's? I learnered it had if you had min on your bottom fraction you needed minutes on the top of your next fraction. Does this change if your doing gtt/min problems? Im sorry if its confussing to read its hard to type math problems. But no I dont have a specific problem I need help with I just wanted to use DA for setting my IV rates since I use it calculate tabs caps mls ect with this method... Its just driving me crazy they dont cross out!!
  8. no its a formula you use to convert any dosage problem for example. The Doctor odered 4mg of a specific med and the dose you have on hand is 2mg tabs how many tabs so you give. you set the problem up to where what ever you have are trying to get goes on top and the drug amout goes on bottow then you muliple and divide. You know when the problem is set up properly because if you have mg on the bottom then the next fraction you write should have mg on the top of the next. I can solve any problem like this except gtt/min and ml/hr... when i took the class severle years back they showed us but I cant find my notes sorry if its a lil confussing I typed you a sample of a easy one. tabs= tab/2mg x 4mg/x = 2tabs
  9. SO yesterday was my first clinical day of my second semester of nursing school and I am pretty sure I got a U. The reason I say might be given a U is because I screwed up a med pass. It all started in the med room where I was giving 2 iv pushes. I was checked off on IV meds the day before in lab and giving them the very next day. So I get to the med room and everything is fine other then my nerves cause I cant work the omnicell. I go to remove my meds and my med isn't on the screen. I wrote the name brand down not the generic:crying2:. So I have to re-look it up then re-pull my meds. Then I draw up my meds and completely slipped my mind I needed tape after that I was sooo stressed and upset I couldn't concentrate. My instructor told me its a U for not having tape she told me if my next med pass goes well I can redeem myself and not get a U. Ive never had a U and never been so upset over hearing those words. Even when I got in the room I forgot the check for name and DOB which i NEVER DO..ahhh i just wanted to crawl in a hole. This was my first clinical day with my new instructor and I felt like I started on a bad note all I kept thinking was she probably thinks I had no business moving up from Nursing1. I had a B in nursing1 I'm pulling a high B in nursing 2. I guess I'm just disappointed in myself. I'm not sure if I got my U or not I did complete a IVPB later that morning and I did way better but honestly I feel I deserve the U. Has anybody else been in this situation and if so how did you handle it? After lunch I feel like I was back to normal but the feeling of not knowing where anything is and passing meds at the same time got the best of me:uhoh3:

  11. my nursing program is the same way 10hrs for each semester nursing I nursing II ect...good luck and enjoy it you can make it as fun as you want or as miserable it all depends on the attitude you put forth :)
  12. I am still in nursing school but I can tell you we MUST flush....we flush give med flush give next med flush ect always ending with a flush. Our instructors told us the same rational you just did. good for you for going with your gut!!
  13. Can anybody show me how to calculate gtts/min and ml/hr using dimensional analysis? I use this method for all my calculations but I cant get it to work with setting IV rates if anybody could help it would be greatly appreciated. I can figure the rates using another formula so its not a matter of not knowing how to do them I just prefer help with Dimensional method only!
  14. I'm a Grayson student love love love the program its worth the drive our instructors are awesome and go out of their way to make sure you know your stuff I enjoy nursing school I can even say I love it. I also heard stories of Collins program so chose not to even apply there...good luck with your nursing journey :)
  15. try pepermint oil from a health food store. place a small amount in each nostrile works like a charm :)
  16. I am also still in nursing school but what I found works best for me is after they eat breakfast I go in and remove the tray and politely say "Mrs/Mr.so and so I'm going to go gather all my supplies for you morning bath do you have any special request you would like to share with me" They will usually say oh I have my own lotion in the closet or I prefer baths over showers etc. My first semester I was always being told No No No lol....I soon realized if I don't say "are you ready for your bath or would you like your bath now" it goes allot more smoothly...Good luck hope you find a great routine that works for you!!
  17. I have my CNA and going thru the Rn program. I work during the summers and school full time from Aug-May. The program I was originally going thru required you to have your CNA before you could even apply.I am really glad they did because you will use a lot of your CNA skills thru the program. The best place I would recommend finding a job is with a LTC facility. During clinical your on med-Surg for most of your 2years and you will find most of med-surg is elderly. I have found the nursing home is very rewarding and you would be amazed how much you bond with them!! good luck on your schooling and finding a job your happy with :)
  18. I just finished my first semester of school I start second semester next week,,,YEAH! but anyway back to the point WE DID STICK EACHOTHER...we gave 3 injections one IM one trans-dermal and then a SubQ. Its a breeze. I was glad we practiced on each other it helped calm the nerves of sticking our first pt. I knew what to expect. I was scared of how the flesh would feel as the needle was inserted after sticking my lab partner that fear was gone. Also we picked who we wanted to stick so buddy up with a class mate you connect with you will laugh about it later...good luck and congrats on starting your first semester!
  19. when your kids say shushhh moms studying if you want good Christmas presents she needs to pass finals..omg all they see is $$$$ signs i need to add my daughter who said this is in Junior high....

Frisco to McKinney isn't a bad drive what will suck is the drive to lecture when you have to be there at 8am...and second semester you can choose your clinical site and Plano would be a good option. my clinical experience was really good lol with lots of pee and poop of course. When class first starts you will be in lecture Monday Wednesday Thursday and Friday so you stay up on your studying its alot of info on each test it slows down a bit when clinical starts hope you enjoy your first semester.

im finishing up my first semester finals are in 2weeks!! Honestly all the instructors are great they will help you with anything if you just go to them. They however do not let you choose your clinical site til second semester but they will let you switch with a classmate if they are willing and they try to put you at the hospital closer to where you live. I had McKinney with ******* she was awesome I'm going to miss her!

I am in the grayson program love love love the instructors!!! good luck
  23. I took a&p1 in the fall then took a&p2 with micro in the spring. Just taking those two classes at once was tough. If you decide to take all three at once you run the risk of 1) failing or 2) making less than an A in one or more of the courses and as I'm sure your aware of NS is hard to get into with B's much less C's. You run the risk of having to retake them for better grade. Think about it and weigh all you what ifs. Ultimately YOU and only YOU know what you can mentally handle...good luck with your Nursing career.
  24. texasgirl, i started the program!! im loving it we have just finished up with test 3. and i had my first day of clinicals on saturday. yep we now have friday and saturday clinicals i acually prefered those days because after sat. i dont have class again til wednesday which is always our test days so i get lots of studyn done!!! i have to say we test like crazy lol....we have them ecery other wednesday!!
