  1. I took A&P II and Micro in the same semester and got As in both. If you don't work full time and have no children, you should have plenty of time to devote to studying. I don't see why it would be a problem. JMO.
  2. I have taken the majority of my classes online, including sciences (labs were on campus though), and it has worked well for me. I have about 60 credit hours, and I've made straight As. If you have never taken an online class though, I would suggest starting with something simple like psychology or English rather than science. This way, you can get a feel for how the online learning style will work out for you. Science classes are more difficult in general, so I wouldn't recommend making A&P or something your first online class. Good luck!
  3. Yes, this is exactly what I did. I needed A&P II and Micro, so I just applied to the LPN program instead and got in for Spring '09. I am finishing up those 2 classes this semester (along with some general eds for my BSN) while I wait to start in the spring. I did have BIO 112 though (Basic Anatomy & Physiology), so I was able to get my 5 points for completion of all general eds.
  4. This admissions cycle, the points for students accepted into the ADN program were 47+ and 33+ for the LPN. From what I understand, there are far more applicants for the spring start program, so it's more competitive then. I believe the points for fall '08 admission were 41+ for ADN and 29+ for LPN, so as you can see, the points spread varies greatly. You have a really good chance of getting in next fall if you apply during the upcoming application period (December through February). Like someone else suggested, see how many points you have for the LPN because it may be easier to get in that way. If you greater than 30, I would suggest applying to the LPN instead. Also, I don't understand what you mean by a 4.5 GPA...you can't have anything more than a 4.0 at Greenville Tech.
  5. I didn't find it challenging as far the as the anatomy part goes, but the physiology part was a bit more complex than the bones and muscles. Still, I thought the nervous system was the most interesting one by far, so that made it easier to learn. For me, the most difficult was the cardiovascular system.
  6. I did it earlier this year. I had a CNA class Monday - Friday from 9-3 and then my normal classes (including A&P, probability & statistics, psychology, and music appreciation) from 5-8 or 9 PM. I studied during my lunch break and the 2 hour break between classes. I also was not working at the time, so I had weekends to play catch up. It's only a few weeks, so the unpleasantness will only be temporary. I say go for it. :)
  7. Congratulations! I also received my acceptance letter today. I start my nursing courses in January.
  8. I am probably in the minority, but I honestly prefer short answer and fill in the blank over multiple choice. I tend to confuse myself with multiple choice questions because I start overanalyzing all the options. Plus, many questions can be very tricky or worded in a confusing manner. My A&P tests were multiple choice (for the lecture portion at least - labs were fill in the blank), but my General Biology tests were all short answer/essay. Try to stick it out until the next test and see how you do. If you feel the tests are unreasonable then drop the class. It may not be as bad as you think you will be though. Just give it a chance.
  9. I don't think it's necessary to take a medical terminology class before you take anatomy. I took medical terminology *after* I took A&P, and while my knowledge of anatomy helped a lot, most of the medical terms and conditions were new to me. I don't think you need to delay A&P by a semester in order to take medical terminology first when it will not help you out significantly. Are you good at math? I am taking college algebra online this semester, and it is really frustrating. I also took Probability & Statistics online, but I found it so much easier than College Algebra. I have an A average thus far, but it is requiring a lot of effort on my part. I typically spend 2-3 hours on each section, and I do about 4 sections each week. Have you ever taken another math class online? If you have and did well in it, you should be able to pull an A in College Algebra.
  10. I'm still waiting too. The deadline was September 15, and letters are supposed to be mailed out 2-4 weeks from the deadline. Mine should come any day now.
  11. What about South Carolina? I go to Greenville Technical College (http://www.gvltec.edu) in upstate SC. GTC has a great nursing program and does not use a waiting list. Nursing classes start in spring, summer, and fall. You are not required to have all prerequisites complete before applying (although it is advised), and with excellent grades, it is possible to get accepted even if you are short a class or 2 (provided it is not a math or science). The application period is July-September for spring admission and December-February for summer/fall. Here is a link to the ADN Weighted Admissions form if you are curious: http://www.gvltec.edu/academics/academic_depts/nursing/ADN_Admissions_Form.doc The average score is typically 40+ points. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Good luck finding a school.
  12. I took a CNA course earlier this year in addition to 4 other classes. It involved minimal studying/homework outside of class. I ended up with a 100 average. It was definitely far less demanding than my prerequisites. As long as you stay on top of everything, I think you will be fine.
  13. I feel the same way. I have not struggled with any of my prereqs (or any college class for that matter). It is not uncommon for me to wait until the day of the test to even start studying, yet I still end up making an A. It makes me feel bad because so many of my classmates struggle to earn passing grades, and I'm breezing by with easy As. Maybe it will be different when I start my nursing courses in January. In the meantime, I intend to enjoy it while I can.
  14. I use it. I look up ratings for my professors before signing up for their classes, and I also rate each instructor at the end of every term. Like others have said, though, I won't let a few bad ratings keep me from taking someone's class. It IS all subjective. Now, if an instructor has 5 pages of nothing but negative reviews, I probably won't take their class. It just depends on what is said about them. What kind of negative reviews are your instructors getting?
  15. It depends on your school. We are given a separate grade for lab and lecture at my school, but they are combined for an overall final grade in the class. The nursing program accepts the combined grade only.
