Waiting for Drexel's orientation information
Where does it say when stuff is due? I must be missing something in my packet here...because I just got a bunch of forms w/ no explanation that I can find. And then my question, I had my PPD done back in December and already sent in the immunization form, but didn't have the separate 2-step PPD form filled out (I didn't have it back then), so do I have to go back to my doctor's office (again! after 4 trips?) to have them fill this out? Does anyone know? Or am I good with just the immunization form?

Accepted in Drexels ACE Program Spring 2009
I got my financial aid stuff about a week ago. I filled out the 2008-2009 FAFSA. On the financial aid packet that I got, it looks like it's for two quarters because the tuition listed on there was only $16,000, so I'm guessing this is Spring/Summer and then we'll have to fill out the 2009-2010 FAFSA for Fall/Winter.

My husband has Cancer and not sure If I should go to school this fall.

Congrats on your acceptance Shyrie! And welcome to the PA forum! I found out they took my Stats, so one less class, yay! Just need to get through Nutrition and Ethics, and then I'll have a couple months to kill. I'm definitely going to keep working, but I think I'm gonna be done beginning of March, take some time to relax and spend time w/ my hubby before he loses me for a year.. I need to get my check in still..

Slight dilema, any advice would be apprieciated............long....sorry
Yay! I'm so glad you decided to go ahead! That would be incredibly neat to go to NS w/ your niece, mine's 5...so if I'm still in school when she gets there.... Good luck!

Direct Entry MSN - when your BA is non-nursing
Hi duckman, I guess it just all depends on what the GPA/classes completed that the other applicants have. I think it sounds like you have a great chance though! That's awesome that you have all your sciences knocked out. To increase your odds, have you looked around at any other accelerated programs, or any direct entry MSN programs in your area? I'm assuming the accelerated one you're talking about right now is a BSN right? Or even if it is an MSN, try looking around for BSN ones, you could knock that out in probably about a year and a half, two years, then go on for your MSN and doctorate (perhaps take the majority of those courses online?). I applaud you for wanting to go in to the education aspect of nursing, . We have far too few educators for the amount of perspective students wanting to get in to programs. Yes, maybe don't put all your eggs in one basket. I did do that, had all intentions of getting in to an accelerated BSN at one of my state schools, and it didn't pan out...put me back about a year, because then I missed out on other opportunities that I could have pursued...just my experience and . Good luck, stay focused, stay positive, and you'll achieve your goals!:heartbeat

Direct Entry MSN - when your BA is non-nursing
You're definitely on the right path then. You sound like you got it together! It's awesome that you've already decided on a master's level program. That's my goal some day, I just don't know what I want to focus on yet. I'm actually not in NS yet. I start next March in an accelerated BSN program for a year. But after 2 1/2 years of prereqs, I'm ready! I still have 2, possibly 3, courses to take next semester. If they don't except one of the courses from my BA. But so far it's been good. I've been doing well in my prereqs and really enjoying them. I'm just ready to be a now!

Direct Entry MSN - when your BA is non-nursing
First off, welcome Second, I am going to guess that you're going to need the standard science courses for all programs (Bio, A&P1, A&P2, Micro, Chem), so those would be a start. I don't know that I would take these online, but again, I've never taken an online course before (have my first two this Fall ). These courses are just a bit information overload in terms of trying to "teach yourself" through an online course. But I'm sure you will hear the opposite from people on here who have done online sciences and have been fine! I think it's up to you, you almost have your undergrad so I'm sure you have an idea of how you learn. I have a BA in Psych and I don't know that I would let myself take those kind of courses online, but again, that's me! I would take things like your Psych, Sociology (if you need it), Nutrition, Ethics, and possibly Math...although that one makes me a bit nervous too, online.. The only thing I would say is be careful about the time limits on your sciences. Most places you have had to taken your A&P's and Micro w/in the last 5-10 years, it varies by school..but there is more often than not a time limit, so you don't want to be stuck having to retake those classes if they lapse. So maybe start out w/ some of the other ones? You can also visit the Distance Learning and Graduate Student forums on here. They'd be a huge help I'm sure. Good luck, and have fun in Guatemala!

The next step is going to class.. Woah
 I understand this one, coming from a 5'1" shortie over here! Congratulations on getting in to nursing school. I understand the jitters and I don't even start until next March! You're gonna do great! Good luck!

Accepted in Drexels ACE Program Spring 2009
Eek...this doesn't bode well for me..:imbar not to mention it's going to be a 7:30-8:45PM Monday/Wednesday...bleh, after working all day and then going home and chilling for an hour or so and then it's right back out to class..I'm crossing my fingers they'll take my two Psych ones... Yeah, my acceptance letter came w/ the welcome packet..so I guess it's just whatever order stuff gets done in, and you have a point about them being busy w/ the incoming class right now..oh well, I'll just have to keep watching my mailbox like a hawk every day!

Scared
lol, I know what you mean. I also have a BA in Psychology, haven't done squat w/ it! Always intended to go to grad school.. But I've realized now that nursing is where I want to be, and so have you, so just keep focused, remain positive, and I am quoting someone from this website (I don't remember who, I'm sorry...) but let the haters be motivators! I think that's a great line and I often end up repeating that to myself when negative people w/ negative vibes come around.. You can do this, good luck!

Slight dilema, any advice would be apprieciated............long....sorry
I agree. I would just take the class.. You and only you can achieve your dreams! My , good luck!

Accepted in Drexels ACE Program Spring 2009
That's interesting you got that letter first..My acceptance letter and their website say that transcripts aren't evaluated until you're accepted.. I guess they were just on top of your stuff! I feel like I waited so long for "the" letter, and now I have to wait even longer for the class one and the financial aid one (not that I'm holding out much hope that I'll get much $$, but hey, we can all wish! ) Did you take a Math Stats? Or was it from another subject?

Accepted in Drexels ACE Program Spring 2009
Hi nursin09! I was also just accepted to ACE for Spring '09. I was curious, have you received the letter yet letting you know what classes they're accepting? I know I have to take Nutrition and Ethics but I'm really hoping they're going to accept my Psychology Stats for the Stats requirement so I don't have to take 3 classes next semester while working full time...:imbar I too ditto your excited, scared, nervous & anxious feelings, not sure what to expect, but I'm ready for the challenge!

Math!!!!
Yep, same here, going through an Algebra class right now. I had taken math all the way up to Precalculus, (granted, this was almost 10 years ago, and it didn't transfer in because I got a D), but like previous posters said, I didn't really study as much as I should have before taking the test and also had forgotten the most basic of things... Getting an A though, at least it'll be a boost to my GPA! I also agree w/ ThatPoshGirl though, if you want, see if you can retake it. I know at my school, you could pay to retake it, after a certain amount of time...or I actually went in to the advising office and kind of made a stink that I had placed so low that one of the advisors gave me a slip to take it again for free...I ended up not retaking it though, because I didn't really think I would do any better after having to try to re-teach myself stuff..and I don't regret having taken the class this summer, cleared out a lot of cobwebs! :chuckle Good luck!

UGH!!!! Stressful morning!
Wow...now I'm really thinking about this...much cheaper than paying for the class/book/gas/my time....hmm..I might just have to talk to them about this. Thank you for the info! Now back to the regularly scheduled thread..

UGH!!!! Stressful morning!
hijacking thread for a second.. jt, do you think I would be ok CLEP'ing Soc only having taken Social Problems and Soc of the Family? I'm being told I have to have Intro for the ADN program I'm applying for, that the other classes don't "qualify" Would I have enough of a basis for the CLEP do you think to pass it? And then how does that work transferring that to a BSN program down the line? Does it transfer in as a grade? Or just as a complete? Thanks!
-
UGH!!!! Stressful morning!
I am so sorry. That is truly frustrating.. :icon_hug: It's annoying how quick they drop you, one of the cc's around here does that.. I would try going the first day of class to the Chem and Statistics classes and see if anyone drops, then you can add it on. That's how I've gotten in to a couple of classes. I don't think Soc would be any harder than Psych, but I never took Intro to Soc, only Intro to Psych. I took Social Problems and Soc of the Family and didn't think they were hard at all! So I would think Intro would be that much easier. But again, you could try to add the Psych too in place of the Soc..? Good luck! You're allowed to vent! And it will all be worth it in the end!

algebra problem
LOL, that would be embarrassing! Good job though, congratulations on your perfect score!

Im Totally New To Everything! Need Help!
Exactly what Trama said, it completely depends on what prereq and coreqs are required for the program that you're looking at. I would suggest sitting down w/ an advisor as soon as you can. They can go over w/ you exactly what classes you'll need and can give you an idea of how long it will take. Plus you'll avoid taking any unnecessary classes that you don't need. If you're going full-time, that's great, you should be able to knock out the prereqs in no time! Good luck!

Accepted! Need some advice!
Just wanted to say Congrats on your acceptance!!!
