  1. So I've been getting more and more frustrated and angry at work for various reasons. Anything from long hours to mean/ungrateful patients. I've worked ER since 2006 with a small stay in icu in there. I feel like it is time for a change, and I'm kind ...
  2. 0645 - 1900 is supposed to be the shift hours. By the time the oncoming shift comes in and gets report it is 1915 or a bit later by the time we leave. I live 7 miles away which takes me 10-15 minutes to drive. I never hit traffic. Definitely no time ...
  3. CEN

doubt it. many hospitals don't even offer an increase in your hourly rate with the certification (which is why a lot of people don't bother with it)
  4. UT pay and work environment??

pay is actually a little less than that for new grads. i know of a new grad in the new residency making
  5. dayshifters please please please...

i dont work nights, but thats why i don't answer calls from work when i'm not working. if i want to come in and work extra, i'll let you know. if something is wrong, deal with it and tell me about it when i come in next.
  6. Erlanger is a Level 1 trauma facility, not 3
  7. UT pay and work environment??

no relocation bonus that i know of. benefits are fine with a family that large, but for a two person family w/o kids it is expensive b/c there is no employee + spouse plan. it is either employee, or family. the price nearly triples to simply add a on...
  8. Methodist Hospital in Oak Ridge

not exactly sure you can do that. it is called practicing w/o a license and is illegal. for you to sit for the license exam you have to have a school sign off to the board saying you have completed school and are prepared for the exam. i'm surp...
  9. UT pay and work environment??

Great hospital and great city to live in. Pay is low for the entire area and east TN, benefits are mediocre and possibly expensive depending on what your family size is. I think it is 5-6:1 on med-surg floors
  10. Loewenberg School of nursing- university of memphis

    1. wow, defensive much? the poster simply said it is hard to believe, which it is. letting someone in on the contingency of finishing one pre-req class before the program starts is one thing, but allowing someone to completely forego ALL the pre-reqs...
  11. Memphis

I recently moved from Memphis. My advice...don't move there. Memphis is the epitome of what happens when people just stop caring about anything but themselves. A lot of the city is corrupt, trashy, ghetto, and dangerous. It is an ok place to go for ...
  12. the med

i will say this though. there is a reason they went through like 5 ceo's or directors (whatever their term was) in a short period of time. you're better off going to methodist university if you want something downtown, or one of the other facilities ...
  13. This reminds me of a person I had a talk with at an employee health office for a hospital I was working at. He was an army medic of some years, great experience, and willing to work. The problem came in that legally he could not do anything in an off...
  14. I have had this discussion with a few military medics and it all boils down to licensing. Yeah you were an army medic. great! thank you for your service. at the end of the day in the civilian world if you cannot show proof of a state license to pract...
  15. the med

the med is a sinking ship. avoid it if at all possible. the vast majority of the patients and people that work there are ghetto and the hospital is ran as such. this is by no means a shot at anyone that works there, just an observation from the time ...
  16. Rate of Pay for NEW GRAD in Knoxville

All the hospitals in Knoxville talk to each other EXTENSIVELY. I'm pretty sure that they have all agreed to about the same pay scale too. Pay is one of the lowest in the country.
  17. Local Excelsior Program

Don't waste your time with them. Not everyone accepts the school as an accredited facility to allow you to take boards and many employers don't like schools like that. Stick with a place that has a physical school attached to it if you want something...
  18. Charting method at UT Med Center ED

anyone know what the charting system is in the ED at UT Medical Center? Ie: Paper, electronic charting (which one), etc...
  19. Tn RN wages

knoxville is one of the lowest in the country
  20. Loewenberg School of nursing- university of memphis

the minimum requirement is typically never enough to be competitive but i don't know anything about this school
  21. Which comes first: PACU or ICU?

which is the better path to crna? i have yet to see an anesthesia school that accepts pacu as critical care experience for admission to a crna program.
  22. Moving to Tennessee from New Jersey

i wouldn't say your a new grad with 1 year experience. new grad has become such a bad term lately. say you've been a nurse for a little over a year :) as far as the money goes, TN's cost of living is far less than NJ and that should make up the major...
  23. Charting method at UT Med Center ED

no no no no no. computer charting is way faster in traumas, at least in my experience. i have to see a form of paper charting that can match the speed of a good electronic chart
  24. does any nurse do EJ's in the ER

the last hospital i worked at allowed RN's to do it. you just had to be watched by the charge nurse while you did 3 of them to make sure you did it properly
  25. Charting method at UT Med Center ED

Really? A trauma hospital like that is still mostly paper?
