  1. Gary thank you for the honest assessment...that's about what I figured. I'm in Louisiana so I'm thinking that the work environment can't possibly be too much worse than here...?
  2. Following this thread...I've been a nurse for 9 years and considering traveling as well, but I've always heard that you can expect the worst in terms of assignments, patient load, scheduling, etc. Is this true? The agency nurses I've worked with in the past always seemed to be treated pretty fairly.
  3. We are moving to Knoxville to be closer to family, and I would like to know if anyone has any info about the Covenant System, UT or East Tenn Children's. I am a new RN with 7 months experience in outpatient pediatrics doing well-child (KidMed) check-ups. I'm coming from Louisiana, so the low pay is no shocker to me... :confused:What are the benefits like? Pay? Nurse/pt. ratio? I am hoping for postpartum or peds, even L&D. Thanks so much for any info you can give, it is MUCH appreciated!
  4. Congrats!! :) I'm still trying to set up interviews, and having very little luck as an out of state applicant. I plan on going to the various floors that may be hiring and just handing my resume to the nurse managers there. Anyone think this is a good idea? Any suggestions for the best time of day to do this? Preferably not in the middle of physician rounds but before nurse managers leave. If anyone has ANY contact info for a nurse manager that I can at least email a resume to I would really appreciate it. My family and I thank you in advance!! One more question...as an RN with a little over 6 months experience in outpatient pediatrics (doing well child check-ups for a pediatrician) should I apply for residencies only or staff RN jobs? Thanks!
  5. The only time I actually hear from Swedish is a few weeks later when they send an automated response telling me I wasn't selected for the position. I've tried to email the "recruiter" that sends these emails, but never get a reply. It's unfortunate that you have to harass people to get an interview, but I guess that's just the way the market is. They are so flooded with applications that they can only manage to pay attention to the ones that make the most noise. Just keep trying!!
  6. Hey everyone, I am currently working as an outpatient Peds RN doing well-child check-ups for Medicaid patients. My family and I are moving to Seattle, and will be visiting during the end of this month. I have tried to hound everyone I can, and applied for everything I can, but to no avail. I did a phone interview with Providence in Everett and they checked my references back in the fall, but I feel that since then they have been giving me the run around. I have also applied everywhere else, but cannot seem to get ANY contact numbers for Swedish. I can only get receptionists / tech support. Which is a shame because they have a few positions I've applied for that I would LOVE to work!! Does ANYONE have ANY contact info (emails, numbers) for Swedish or other Hospitals? I can only find the ones listed on the website. Thank you SO much and I hope to be joining you soon!!
  7. hey Kodakgee...No, no luck yet, but I've just recently stopped looking until the Spring. I need to let my little girl finish out the school year here. I'm going to try to have a job lined up before we move, so it won't be too long until I'm applying again. In the mean time I have a job at a Dr.'s office here doing well child check-ups so I'm hoping that will be enough experience to find a job in WA later. It's still pretty rough everywhere, just keep trying. You'll want to get your WA license to show them you're serious about moving though. I'd look at the hospitals outside Seattle too, like Providence in Everett or the Franciscan system in Tacoma, Federal Way, etc. Good luck!! LindaRN, good luck to you too:yeah:
  8. I'm applying anywhere they are posting new grad positions...but I am willing to work anywhere to gain experience. I would like to be in peds, L&D, postpartum, PICU, or NICU, or ER. All I can do is apply online and wait, and email Paula Bartley but I don't get a response...I can't get to anyone on the phone. It's really hard because they don't know my school of nursing, and I can't find a way to find a way to stand out from all of the rest. I have really good clinical experience in school, and I really want to work....just like the rest of the new grads out there. If you have any nurse manager's email or anything just so I could introduce myself that would be awesome. Apparently in this market the only way you can get a job is by knowing someone. Thanks:D
  9. paddingtonRN, do you currently work at Swedish? I'm trying to get in any way I can as a new grad relocating from Louisiana, and my WA license is pending. I keep emailing the nurse recruiter that sends out the "this positions has been filled" emails, but no reply. I can't get through on the phone either. Any suggestions??? Thanks so much...I have a family to support!!
  10. That was incredibly helpful, thank you so much! I didn't expect too much of a reply since it wasn't really nursing related. It sounds perfect for us, we're excited to move. I really appreciate it. Thanks! :)
  11. I'm relocating and hopefully taking a job at Providence Everett. Anyone a new grad there? What's it like for you? My husband and I are looking at the Mill Creek area for a home. First to rent an apartment then to buy. The Elementary School is highly rated. Is the area generally nice? I'm from New Orleans:jester:, so "nice" may be used loosely Thanks!!!!
  12. St. Francis in Federal Way, but info on ANY of them would be helpful. Thanks for your reply, it's tough out there! :)
  13. One more thing I forgot....what are the shift diffs like for nights, evenings and weekends? Thanks again.
  14. Thanks so much:yeah: I'm sure this is just wishful thinking in this job market, but any idea if they offer relocation bonuses? Why are benefits there not that great? Oh, and we're a family of 4, two kids under 6.
  15. I'm a BSN new grad and just applied to a few jobs at UT Medical Center. Anyone work there or know anything about pay, benefits or work environment? I'm coming from Louisiana so I'm well aware of how low pay is here and in Tenn. How about nurse/pt. ratios? What are they like on a typical med-surg floor? :redbeatheThanks and good luck to all my fellow new grads...I know it's rough out there...
