Don't Be Angry - Part II
Neither thread insulted me in any way. In fact it has made think of the times I have driven home from work upset and physically exhausted, for less than twenty dollars a hour. My pay has increased but not like my husband's. He is a pharmacist, when we married in 1996 (our second marriage) he made six dollars more an hour than I did. After the pharmacists made their entry level doctorate, their pay soared. They played the political game and became united (not an union), so now they start off at 90,000 a year out of school not 7.00/hour my husband made in 1976. I was a CNA, LPN, and now a RN who is trying to return to school for MSN. There are many reasons, but mainly to increase my pay. When I talk to nurses about different issues, most do not seem to care or notice. I have heard "it has been this way, and will always be this way." and I would think how sad.I believe in change cause it is coming whether you like it or not. So instead of being passive I want to be effective. I do know who my representative is, I was the secretary for our AACN chapter in TN Valley. We lobbied but in Alabama most things don't get changed easily. I do fel we made a dent, but much more must be done. I will be waiting for the next instllment. Nan

Is nursing really worth it??
I have been a nurse for over twenty years and do not regret it. I wished one of our children had gone into nursing, but alas none did. I would recommend it to anyone there are so many ways one can have a career. Good luck to you on your journey. Nan

Anyone Else Experience Mobbing?
Yes, I too have experienced mobbing; even though I did not know the word existed. It was five years ago I needed a change from nights after 9 1/2 years I was exhausted. I would at a great hospital with my peeps. Anyway a brand new CVICU was opening in a smaller hospital close to my house. I took the position and was so happy. But then after my first year the nurse manager called me in and stated I was basically the most horrible nurse in the unit. The reason came from a nurse who made up a lie about me. I left, I fortunately moved, but the nurse manager sent me emails and funny jokes and a beautiful card saying she was sorry. We still write from time to time. My advice move on, this is your only life, enjoy it. And if possible pray for the people you work with and forgive them. nan1993

"Older" nurses and 12 hour shifts
I have worked twelve hour shifts since our hopitals changed in the eighties. I like twelve hours with self scheduling compared to eight hours. I will admit I am tired more often than when I was in my twenties.

The 1st Time You Cried on the Job
The first of many cries happened about a year after I graduated. I was pregnant with my second child (who is now seventeen). I was pulled to the PICU to help with a "harvest" (organ donation). Everything was fine until I touched the little girl, she was the same age as my five year old (who is now twentytwo). She and her siblings were left with a twelve year old baby sitter, who drop ashes from her cigarrette onto the Christmas tree. There was a big fire, one was burned with third degree burns and died, another died on arrival at another hospital. When I held her hand, with nail polish on her little fingers, I cried. Her hands reminded me of my daughters. I could not leave the bedside. The mother finally came, she had been out drinking with her boyfriend. After that I was pulled for four hours to the ER, and had a patient with a gun screaming demands. I feared for my life, and my baby. Security came and restrained him. By the way, security could carry guns back then. Any way I cried all the way home and for a few more days. You will have days that you cry, but you will have good days too.

Neuro--tell me why you do/don't like it!!
For me neuro has so many questionable outcomes, any disease process can, but when the pupils change damage is done. I work in a 900 bed level 1 trauma hospital in a 18 bed neuro-intensive care unit. I have 11.5 years in cardiac and 9 in other areas. Try neuro, I have and I like it. To watch a pt wake up and F/C's, who has been comatose, nothing compares.

Domestic Violence Survivor.
I am a survivor of abuse. You did the right thing to leave, you did not DESERVE to be treated as you were. I agree to seeking therapy. I did me a lot of good. Keep your self safe, my ex decided to stalk me at work and home. Also the school does not need to know, unless you want to tell them.:icon_hug: You are wonderful, do not listen to anything he said.

A Dangerous Scam!!
I cannot believe that someone can feel that way about vaccinations. My husband who is 53 and myself keep up with our tetorifice vaccines. I have seen tetorifice and do not wish to again. The reason we have the quality of life we do is due to vaccines. This guy is unbelievable. And to think a RN has this sight he is on, crazy. Oh, I believe it is a scam. Who solicits for money like that? Very questionable.

What Makes Nursing Beautiful???
For me the care of all aspects of patients needs. We have patients in our neuro unit that are not ever supposed to make it. But they come back to say thank you, maybe walking or in a wheel chair. What gets me is they remember you for all you did, that does it for me.

I have many friends that are pharmaecutical reps. They all have a BSN and also got recommendations. My husband is a pharmacist and helped, one guy that was a mutual friend work for Phifzer. It can be done. One of the nurses I work with, her husband is a pharmaceutical rep. He has a marketing degree. So the moral is go for it

Do other RN's imply you give "too much" nursing care??? (long vent)
I have been a nurse for twenty three years and to this day I treat my patients as you have. Do not let a few nurses change you. You sound like someone I would like to work with. Keep up the good work!:balloons:
