  1. Hi Nursestudent 1984 I can't really help you in regards to your query but just wanted to say that I think your English is of a very high standard and wish you all the best for the future. LOL better than mine I had to edit due to a typo
  2. OMG if you guys are anal what am I LOL :yeah:I havent even started the UK equivilant of the pre-nursing exam and have already started making flash cards, I am using Memorylifter which is free software that you can test yourself online with or you can print out cards which have the ? on one side and answer on the other as reccommended by Fox on another thread xx
  3. Thank you for your time and prompt response I appreciate this will be locked. Thank you for you thoughts :-)
  4. My 4 year old son 7 weeks ago presented with a lump on the anterior od his neck on the right side, it started of as pea sized, he has a hoasness to his voice he was diagnosed with anemia after blood tests 1 week ago and was prescribed iron supplements which are child frendly s they react in the gut rather than his stomach as his appetite is low anyhow. This lump is now the size of half a ping pong ball and we have been told that he will recieve an appointment within the next 4 weeks for a specialist childrens hopsital, if any other symtpoms develop I am to return him to our GP. If he gets worse he will recieve an appointment within 2 weeks. I am worried that he has lymphoma or lukemia as his symtoms fit but the blood test only showed marked reduced red blood cells and minimal elevated white cells. I am soon to be a student nurse and wish I knew more as I know you guys have a wealth of experiance I was hoping you would help me on this personal matter. My questions are as follows: 1) Does it happen a lot in cases of pedeatric cancers of this type that they do not show elevated levels of white blood cells. 2) Am I just over thinking things and going into mummy mode. 3) Do I let him eat whatever he fancies to keep his weight up as he started to look skinny but still feels hefty enough( like most children will eat ice cream but has gone off most foods)
  5. Thanks pizzalover, would you mind if I ask how you are funding your living costs as I know most colleges have the course funded by the NHS. Living costs are a sticking point for me as I have a 3 year old and a house (then dont we all have bills lol) and any information you could give me would be very much appreciated
  6. Yes I turned away from it 13 years ago and have come back because it is something I truly want to do.
  7. Well I have to say right now we're pretty similar in that we both work together and both drive fork lift trucks (at the moment), both love our kids and use them as an excuse to have a good laugh.... but we are different in one respect I CAN actually find a pair of socks in the morning without having to ask someone else:lol2:
  8. Mine is only 3 but so long as he worked hard at school he can do whatever he wants with my blessing within reason.
  9. It's the best thing ever find all of you and such a valuale resource as I am not in contact with anyone on my chosen career path YET!! I am still waiting to hear about some jobs I have applied for but in the meantime I'm getting a good educatucation right here. I love it it's all the things that they can't tell you in a book or class. I take my hat off to you guys for setting this up:balloons:
  10. #2 no probs with dad
  11. Now I'm thinkin I'd better get some practice on my roller skates just incase lol!!
  12. At the moment I wrok in a warehouse and the other day I was called to an incident as the nearest first aider available. I get up to person whose clutching his foot sat on the floor, the fork lift truck thats big and red and 12ft high is right next to him. Nearly all the management is there and I get flustered and say "so what happened here then?", my colleuges just looked at me in disbelief, luckily I managed to convince them that it's all part of the plan to calm the injured party lol. I think your stories are soooo funny
  13. I havent had much experience but have done some volutary work over christmas a couple of years back and learnt....... Just because you cant see the flame on the pudding doesnt mean it isnt their (saves on plucking eyebrows though) Its NOT a good idea to let the kids at the chocolate liquers just because it's christmas! (messy:barf01:) You really should pick the wrapping paper up asap once the presents are opened cos god knows what you are standing on these have included: impaled in the foot by toys standing on glass (from the bucks fizz they decided to have for breakfast) the family pet which decided to bite back and a child (although thankfully that turned out okay) :xmas_smilies_daz: I laughed so loud about the playing catch with a rattler I would probably be stupid enough to reach out to try to catch it.
  14. :behindpc:Hi as some of you may know I have applied for 3 posts as a health care assistant, but I am wondering if I don't get any of these posts should I try for the Access to nursing course a college. When I have looked intot his it is a 1 year course which can then lead to a degree or diploma over 2 years at uni. I am 29 now and not sure how the job market is flowing but there seems to be a lot of interest in the posts I have applied for this is why I have doubts. I would be greatfull if anyone could shed any light on whether this course is worthwhile or I should attempt to go straight for a degree/ diploma?? TY all:sofahider
  15. Hi I love Ireland have only been there once, only found this site today and am loving it too. I live in Manchester and can say that it is pretty good, cost of living isn't too bad and there's plenty of things to do on the weekends where you are not studying and don't go home. I am currently trying to get on at Wythenshawe hospital as a health care assistant so I can do my NVQ3 and access my nursing degree and they seem to have a good range of posts avaialble there too(if you were thinking about doing voluntry/part time while you train). Having said that I don't know whats really out there myself but I'm lovin every second finding out. Good luck to you and hope you find somewhere you like :welcome:
