If they already have the easier assignments, and the incoming g patient is on the easy side, makes sense to me.

Perhaps she works for a home care agency that does med pours for patients? It may well be that part of the job, or an unwritten "protocol or expectation" is that patient's meds may get picked up if their patient is unable to do so. Not saying that would I agree with that practice, but perhaps that is what is happening.

I totally understand where you are going from, however, this is becoming the standard more and more. I expect this trend will make its way to your area also.

If there were any legal ramifications to your illness-- like jail time, arrest, etc.-- that is a different issue than a medical problem. And mental illness IS a MEDICAL PROBLEM. Don't sweat the small stuff so much, and believe in wonderful, awesome you.

There are several companies that have a "case management" type role from home. They supply you with a computer, and you basically call people all day long, counsel them, etc. A couple of my friends do this and LOVE it. Another great option could be in forensics. Lots of science and "figuring out" stuff. Also a neat option is a legal nurse consultant. I think that is my dream job! Good luck in whatever path you choose!

I still like to give a verbal report. If a family is "dynamic" (difficult to interact with), or has unreasonable expectations, if the patient is constantly on the call bell for unnecessary things, or needs "encouragement" to complete own ADL's or other tasks they are perfectly capable of completing but is not driven to do so, I am not sure I want to write exactly that. However, since I have worked in a hospital where the ER faxed report, I have learned how to get around it. "Patient requires much encouragement to complete own ADL's", or "Family is very devoted to patient" are code to the receiving floors of the previous statements, and I made sure the floors were aware, and asked they pass along that tidbit to their coworkers. I hate faxing report, and would hate to receive it that way.

I too had this issue last spring. Instead, I did my portion, added whatever little they contributed, and made sure everyone was referenced for the work they did. Our final project was crap as the other members chose not to participate, but I still got an A.

That specific piece of equipment is amazing. we also have two sheets made of parachute-like material that assist in the same way. Both products are amazing.
