I did not use the RNotes or Nutrinotes at all durring 1st term. Nor did my now term 2 professors ask us to purchase either book- so if youre looking to return something return those and only consider rebuying later if your course in another term requires it or if you really think you need it. I also did not find that I used the labs/tests book at all.. infact it sits in my office closet and collects dust (along with the med term and dosage calc books I used 2 times but just know they are going to use sometime again so I dont dare to sell those back).. but seriously ask your prof. about if they really think you will need it RIGHT NOW for term 1 before returning that one> they may be more "details" oriented than my prof. was. Overall- Return the nutri and rnotes and use that money toward investing in a littman steth that has a bell and diaphragm(remember extra ear pieces and ID tag for it!!) and an ID Badge holder- they make a world of difference -- for your other nursing needs I reccommend you to seek out the uniforn store at regency mall they have always been more tha helpful and they give a discount to fccj students!

I just bought one of the ones in the book store... It was a basic adult cuff.. it came with directions ect... You will need to comeplete like 25 BP readings on varrious people.. i think half of them must be done on someone over 50 or something like that. I did my fiances everyday for a while.. and then his parents ( one of which has high BP and is on meds.. so it was neat to see his pre meds and post meds BPs) get em done as soon as possible after you work out your kinks of how to take BPs.. I still have trouble hearing teh sounds sometimes.. but most of the time its a piece of cake

The cut off for my group ( fall 07) was like 179. something. The cut off chnages every semester. I had a 182.96 and made it in. I just want you to know that you need to start getting serious now..start reading ahead and making notes to prepare for tests... and prepare to tell everyone you do not exist again ( as far as long term free time) until finishing nusring school.. you will be busy up to your eye balls... but youll learn alot and soemway some how youll end up having some fun in the process -- if you have any questions just ask Good luck!

transcript evaluations usually dont take too long...if you are comming in form any private universities it may take longer.... WORD TO THE WISE>> THE STUDY GUIDE BOOKS DO HELP IF YOU TAKE THE TIME TO OPEN THEM! First termers--IF you are looking to save some money on almost new books- and want study guides- I have the Fundamentals of Nursing (concepts) 8th ed. SG and the Pharmacology 5th ed SG I am willing to give them both up for $20. I ended up with 2 B's that were 1-2 pts away from A's..... so its not a bad option-- contact me(reply) if you want them start reading ahead if you can!

thats a great idea that many of us from Fall used when we went off trying to get our books. I will admit I have not used many of the CD's found in the books except 2. The two books you definately do not want to skimp on are the Tabers med dictionary and the drug guide-- BUY them with the CD;s if you can afford them. The cds are useful b/c you can load them into your computer and you can copy/paste alot of info that (trust me) you do not want to type out! If you have a PDA, get them on PDA too as you may find them useful when you are in clinicals(( sorry PDA's cannot be used durring testing or simulations)) but,( you mayalso find it useful to see if you canget your health assessment book on PDA-- it would be a lifesaver for those days when you forget the "tests" you have to do on patient asessment at the hospital)). I have not really used by RNnotes or Nutrinotes yet. I have just kinda poked at them in spare time. but maybey I will use them next semester.. so if you want to skimp.. skimp there.

Well ... I ended up pricing things out and it ended up being cheaper at N. Med clinic. So thats where I went. As far as the pants.. If you know how to alter them ( or know where to go to get them altered) your best bet is to order them through the website. If you just totally dont like that idea you can go shopping else where for other pants-- just plain white scrub pants--no cargo pockets.. no flares- no "logos"--(( word to the wise.. the pants' waist will go up to your boobs!)) Shoes have to be white leather. can be tennies but you have to make sure they are all white!.. I bought nurse mates-dove. They felt cushy and they didnt have laces to get undone. You cannot wear crocs. Your socks must also be white-- may I suggest the "compression" socks.

I used to get the book voucher.. but i didnt this semester-- you will have to check with fin-aid to see when those will be avaiable. I would suggest trying to pick up you books as soon as you can ( BUY USED!) books get crazy expesnive... but you will for sure use them (( though my class has not used the RNotes or nutrinotes-- you may get away without having to buy those) If you cant afford all ofyour books at orientataion.. be sure to pick up the med terminology and the doage calc books. You will have homework in them. BUT get your other books ASAP!

we were suppoed to have varrious people there at orientataion to talk to us--- half of them did not show up- We did not have any seasoned nursing students theer to talk to us... suuggestion to you all is to try to agree to meet ups eomwheer at northcampus before orienatation- meet eachother and hope to get intto the same section!... good luck!

you will buy your nursing unifomrs from a website. The orientataion doesnt actually make too many of your supplies avaialbel to you. You will for sure need money for the skills kit ( this is like your one time chance to buy it). make sure you get ALL of your books before leaving orientataion- you will have homework!

Congratulations!... Welcome to the world of mass confusion and nursing where no one knows or can give you straight answers to much of anything! If you have questions feel free to ask around-- Enjoy your free time now ( you will not have much when you start) be sure to bring cash with you to orienatation and yes-- you really should shell out the money for that littman stethoscope ((its soo much better than the crappy ones in the book store) GUARD IT WITH YOUR LIFE! Okay.. as far as night program I don't know too much --I am a day student-- be prepared to get stuck with day program as night time positions are few and far between. The numbers for each term are changed each semester we let in about 144 students (day) for fall. I did take the NAT twice -- you have to wait liek 6 months in between taking it though.-- The study book didnt help me much.. but If you like study books go for it. You will not be penalized for taking it twice.. If I remember correctly I think they can pick and choose your highest scores between the two tests. -- ask before you leap though, I may be wrong!.. keep the questions comming!

what do you need to know about applying? The nursing office is .. well uhh.. dont ask my opinion of the nursing office ( LMAO)... the best route to get quick info is from reading your paperwork or maybey from a trusted source... you could be waiting a very long time otherwise

Also expect to shell out what seems like a whole lotta money for first term- some of the materials are used in future terms so keep that in mind!... as far as the cut offs.. there is a main cut off (ours was 179. something).. and the cut off is usually higher for nights and weekends because of the limited number of seats. UNIFORMS ARE IN! Has anyone had any trouble with them? Most of my items were much too big so I had to send them back ( if you have problems be sure to call them immediately- they are very friendly and will be more than happy to help you!)

I know how it feels to feel so overwhelmed! I did 8 summer classes at UNF all of them with different start and end dates-- i was soo overwhelmed that I cried everyday!!! But i made it, and those 8 classes were OVER! I hope everyone is happy at least to know that week 1 is behind us! Maybey my suggestion will help- I keep a dry erase board calendar in my study area, I have marked down specific times and days to study things. It has helped me breathe knowing that I wont forget to study or wont have time.. If it is written down I know it exisits and that I have to schedule around it.-- I also keep an alarm clock on my cell to remind me when i have to stop studying one thing and take a break before starting a new subject.-- The breaks really help. Just hang in there and know that the occassional cry is totally natural!

I went to the hushpuppies store at the st augustine outlets... I found these really strange shoes that would fit our requirements. They WERE SUPER ULTRA comfy! BUt the price of $100 wasnt soo comfy. I left them and decided to see about maybey getting them later.

Just becasue your course is online doesnt mean you cant seek on campus help. I have taken many courses online and it takes alot of self discipline to get it all finished, but pace youreself and stay ontop of your work. ASK QUESTIONS sooner versus later! Study groups help too. I am hoping that it wont be as bad as previous semesters online have sounded..

My buddy from the micro class I was finishing this summer got a letter telling him he was not accepted he showed it to me and it said that the cut off was 179.2 . At that point, before finishing micro, I had 182.96. After finising micro with a b.. im sure im in the 190's range. I dont know what to make of the conflicting "cut offs" maybey it was also based off of who had what finished?

I am 20, and just starting nursing school... so I kinda like the idea of having a REALLY good chance at getting a job because of the shortage....but I dont like the idea that, one day when I am too old and can't care for myself, that there many not be enough nurses. -- just a thought -- I also agree that hospitals should do better in trying to retain nurses as well... you are all making VERY good points to consider!

... I have heard and wached as a patient MDs treating nurses badly! I am a student nurse, and I hope I dont run into this problem too often, but I know MD's are people too and understandibly have "off days." I think in this situation, the best thing to do is to talk to them and let them know where you stand. If it continues write em up!EVERYTIME! Nurses are not stress relieving squishy balls or emotional punching bags!

I am one of the lucky few that was accepted into my local community college's nursing program. I have heard the issue of "too few teachers and too little salary" as well. I have even heard horror stories of poor working conditions that cause even the most experienced nurses to throw it all away. But I havent heard of the number of applications going down? I personaly have watched the numbers go up!- There is sooo much intrest to become a nurse.. but it is just soo hard to get in. I think that maybey lots of the possible applicants see a list of requirements and feel it is impossible to live up to the "near perfect" standard that is understandably required by nusring programs. I also think alot of students heard of "waitlists" and feel that they dont have a chance, and end up choosing something else. I was almost one of these people! I think a good wayto keep the applications rolling in is to quit keeping information about nusring programs soo "guarded and secretive." I mean even getting an application mailed to my house was smidge of a process-- Lets get ourselves and our nursing school's name out there! Let's leave applications and information in easily accessible places, like online, or with an advisor, or in the school's medical services office!!! Career/college fairs and school visits would be good places to go to in effort to make sure we have plenty of applicants with DESIRE to be in the nusring or the field. I stumbled upon becoming a nurse after trying almost every other major under the sun!... I wish someone would have shown me the way sooner!

Thanks for sharing your story. I have had lots of issues, since just being accepted, with staying in a nusring program with a pinched nevre in my back. They claim me to be a liabilty issue.... they are letting me in.. but only after lots of head ache and heart ache. Thanks for proving that it is possible to get through all of the troubles!
