  1. Money would be most important to me.
  2. If i were you, I would look for a job elsewhere, where you could be part of the crowd instead of always left out.

We are replacing them with that new hospital-compare thingy by the federal government. I am sure that replacing PG with something else will just continue the absurdity, but hey, I still love the idea of canning PG.
  4. Upon re-reading it, neither do I! Sorry.
  5. No, but it will sure help hospitals to save money.

Yaaaaaay!! My hospital is getting rid of PG.... Yaaaaaay!
  7. That excerpt from ADVANCE is interesting. I haven't noticed the hourly rounding thing boosting nurses morale. If anything, it seems to reduce morale. To be fair though, it's really not all that bad. It only takes about 5 minutes to run around all the rooms at the end of the shift and fill them out, lol.
  8. I think there should be a 'no transfer, no admit' between 6-8am and 6-8pm. In the end, the most important factor should be patient safety.
  9. I too will not risk my life to come into work. If the hospital wants to send someone way the heck out into the country to see what my hour long drive is like, they are welcome to come. I will give them hot chocolate. But I am not getting in a vehicle with them. If it is too unsafe for me to drive, it is too unsafe for me to ride. As others have said, I will deal with the consequences later, although I find it hard to believe they will fire me over this when they are so needful of nurses.
  10. I personally would look elsewhere. 5-6 patients with less than usual help from cna's is too much for me. Also, are you sure it pays 40 for 36? That seems unusual. Usually, they consider 36 full time for benifits, but they only pay you for what you work. Also, benefits are usually great in most hospitals.
  11. true, maybe, but she could divorce him years later, and have half his money for free...lol to the OP, you could work 60 hours a week till then. It may not be pleasant, but you could certainly do it.
  12. I enjoyed reading the things you wish you could tell the patient, here is something I wish I could have told the doctor: We are standing at the foot of the patients bed... Doc: Has her foley been d/c ed? I'm not even going to say what I was thinking, lol, use your imagination folks Here's another Doc: Why didn't you tell me about her K level? This was about an hour after he got mad at me for calling him on Sunday and he hung up on me. Before, of course, I could tell him about the K level. Again, use your imagination.
  13. I used to be the manager of the Foreign Languages Department at a major university. I can tell you for sure that to meet many college and university requirements for foreign language, you may test out. In some cases you may have to test as well as interview with a professor. I administered the test myself. It was about 40 questions long, took about 30 minutes to complete, and was completely free.
  14. Press Gainey doesn't help.
  15. I worked at nights for a while while I was in school. I thought it would be great because the floor wasn't too busy at 2-4 am, I could get in some studying. That did not work out so well for me, I would get a sentence or two in an be just about asleep. I couldn't remember anything I read at all. Well, that's just my experience.
  16. I was in a patients room, asking on the way out...'what else can i do for you, sir?' He said: 'Your absence would be nice' Lol, how nice. This was after I gave him his oxy, of course.
  17. What part of our image do you think we have to change? Nurses are very well respected here in the Northeastern United States.
  18. I provided AM care to a woman, she said, while I was performing it that she was embarrased. I continually asked her if she wanted me to get someone else to provide this care to her. She continually said no, she was just embarassed. I also told her that this was my job, I was very good at it, that she had absolutely no reason to be embarrased, and that I cared about nothing other than providing her with the absolute best care that I could. Not that it matters, but my wedding ring is right on my finger where it belongs. By the end of the day, she was thanking me profusely because I had told her the truth about being an advocate for her, and, honestly, because I deserved it. She also kept telling her family members what a fantastic person that I was, not that they needed her too, with all of their drinks and snacks in hand, and the comfort they felt from seeing not only the rapport that I had developed with their sick family member, but also with them. All of you women out there who think there is something wrong with me being your nurse...I encourage you to reserve your judgement until you have had me for your nurse. I think you might change your mind. I don't work in GYN, so I have no idea what that environment is like. But, if there are going to be rules about nurses who are men doing exams on women in GYN, then it only makes sense, and eventually ambulance chasers would zero in on it, that women who are nurses must abide by those same rules in male urology.
  19. I am a new nurse, and a male. I find this to be very offensive. Men have never felt that a man needed to catheterize them, and I refuse to accept the reverse. That is just wrong. I will be no more or less careful in providing care than my female counterparts.
  20. So what did the doctor order in this situation and why is that he RN's fault? She can only do so much. She must have been smoking a cigarette, eh?
  21. This forum is such a good resource for us!!
  22. Wow. That must be tough. Politics are so difficult. Sounds like you have already inadvertantly burned your bridges with the NM and house sup. Maybe you could comtinue to work there for awhile and try to find a new job. Don't forget to take what you have learned from this job to your new one, should that happen.
  23. They are the company that McDonaldizes our profession.
  24. Congrats, I am happy for you!!
  25. I have been fortunate in that most jobs I have worked give an annual raise for cost of living as well as a merit increase as, well...merited. I am speaking of white collar jobs. I think you should let the big wigs know that you are serious about your requirement for adequate rewards as well as your willingness to find a more reasonable environment if warranted.
