  1. When a persons knows where they are they are oriented as AAOx3. When a person is being instructed about a new position they are being orientated as in "For the first week of my new job a will be orientated."
  2. Just a quick question. When you renew your BLS, ACLS and PALS does your hospital 1) Pay for the course? 2) Pay you your normal salary for the time in class? Just want to know, Thanks, P
  3. In your original post you said the agency was giving you $750/week per diem. That works out to $100/day. On the days that you don't work and the days you do not stay overnight you are required to pay taxes on this amount. On the days you do stay overnight it is up to the IRS if this is reasonable or not. You said you worked at this facility before. Did you ever stay overnight? P
  4. Ok, short and sweet. Travel allowances less then or equal to IRS per diem scales are tax free and do not require receipts if and only if the traveler can document they were away from their tax home for more then one day and had to stop some where to sleep before returning home. If you leave from your home go to your work site and return home after work then you must pay taxes on the amount received. P

These Federal laws supercede any local lawe in reguard to pay. If you do not get a lunch break at least get payed for it. The Nancy Nurse act is why nurses are treated so badly in the first place. http://www.dol.gov/esa/regs/compliance/whd/whdfs53.pdf
  6. I've been a nurse for 25 years and a man for 48 years and I always wondered why male physicians require an escort when examining a female patient but male nurses can spend hours on end, on attended, with female patients. It seems like once a week a nurse is accused of assault. Are changes needed? Are men in nursing puttting themselves at risk by caring for female patients without another female staff member present? P
  7. This is where the rubber meets the road and all of those who slam strike replacement nurses do not think it through. Without"scabs" nurses would not be able to strike. Its 0700 on Monday and the strike is called. All of the union night shifters are on the job. The Monday day shift is a no show. Now what? No strike nurses and the night shift can not leave. They have to report off to someone or stay until replaced. If they walk out without reporting off to a qualified replacement then they should just tear up the licinses on the way out and prepare for felony abandonment charges. In short, no scabs no strike.
