i'm sorry to hear about your preceptors problems. my sister has been doing atkins for a year and her cholesterol is magnificent. she doesn't spend alot of time eating fatty meats. she eats lean cuts of meat & plenty of veggies. also, the body goes into ketosis, not ketoacidosis. that is something totally different. take care & best wishes to your colleague.

Interesting. I showed up to every class in high school and tried hard, but still had to take grade 11 & grade 12 math over again. High school was far from easy for me. But after i had a baby at 18, i figured it was time to get my butt in gear and really follow my goal.

I'm interested in this as well....something to consider later down the road. :)

alot of physicians call ma's nurses. (well, to their patients anyway.) i don't think it's right to tell patients, "i'll see you next week, just go and make an appointment with my nurse".......never understood that one. this happened to me when i worked in a dr's clinic way before i became an rn. geesh!!!!

They all go to lunch at the same time?? We'd all be fired if that was the case at our hospital. Small groups, yes, but not everyone. You wait until they get back, because you are dedicated. Kudos to you. Your Charge nurses or DON should do something about this. Ridulous.

OMG! Talk about unethical! Where on gods green earth do they find these employees! Especially someone who's *supposed* to be a DON!! You did exactly the right thing! Sounds like that DON needs to find employment elsewhere, and perhaps leave the medical field altogether. (For the sake & safetly of ANY patient. Imagine, that poor old lady could easily have been our grandmother.

Here in BC, Ineligible patients have to pay $14 or so for the shot at the pharmacy. We do the injection for free.

I would never think of jeopardizing my licence like that. I can't believe the administration has turned a blind eye to this. Well, all i can say is that this situation is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Also to save your own butt, document and record the time & dates that you spoke with admin. about this. Take care!

Keep positive. Alot of nurses have passed with an 85, even lower in some cases. When i did the NCLEX the computer shut off at 99. I think people stress @ whatever number.:) I know you are anxious, hang in there. Let us know how you did, if you wish. Kae

There is a 100% employment rate for both RN's & LPN's in Alberta..... The pay is great, if you don't mind living in rural areas.

Don't stress so much. As you gain experience you WILL be more confident. However, there is nothing wrong with being diligient and not wanting mistakes to happen(this makes a good nurse). You'll see that as time goes by the good & bad stresses find a way of balancing.

I'm not going to sit here and tell you that being a nurse isn't stressful, because it is. You have just the right combination of 'good' stress & 'bad' stress in this occupation. Sometimes i catch myself rethinking my career choice and then something heartwarming or heartwrenching happens @ the hospital to serve as a reminder why i really do love being a nurse. :)

I agree with that. But sometimes i choose to stay OT because i feel as if my duties w/ some PT's aren't complete. The extra money for OT would be fantastic, but patients come first. (Please don't take this to mean that i believe that PT's do not come first to you too.) Just saying that i don't mind staying longer regardless of extra pay.(sometimes). Take care.
