  1. i have been taking nursing classes for over a year, and had decided to take the fall sem off. well, last week i was refered to a dr that requested a mri and was diagnosed with craniopharyngioma. they aren't sure it could also be a pituitary adenoma. i am 25 and was told the lesion is still small and surgery will be in 2 wks. i have looked online for information and have found some but i tought someone here may be able to tell me some good websites to look over or what to expect as far as recovery. the dr seems great but is away for a week so i can't ask him all the questions i would like. i am hoping knowing more about this will ease my fears........ thanks for your help nalini
  2. I personally like what we do at our facility, maybe it would work for you. We have a Bath book for NAs to chart in that has a schedule for every resident's bath. Our facility does baths every other day for each resident unless they request everyday (few do). I think it's odds and evens, but they are almost all done in the morning. Our facility isn't realy hospice but I thought the information might be helpful. Nalini
  3. I really think that it is an individuals choice. I don't see myself having a DNR but my husband that is 27 wants to get one and we have had this talk several times. For him it is all about the quality of life he could have after waking up.
  4. I believe I have the Mad scientist fairy also. Such a pain when I am searching for stuff. :) Nalini
  5. I will hopefully have under 5000 when I finish getting my LPN. However, I would still do it if it needed more. Think about how you will pay it back... I don't know salaries for your area, but consider income, interest, and maybe even go fulltime to school for a while to speed things up. Good luck and best wishes :) One more thing, be careful not to work to much. If your grades slide cut back at work, at least if you have the loan you would be able to work less.
  6. I've never heard of that either, could be they might get stolen or damaged. I'm afraid to wear my wedding ring because it might scratch someone, esp with elderly.
  7. I don't know if there is a way to tell if you are "right for this" before trying it. Maybe try volunteering like llg said, but also ask yourself would you regret not doing this in a few years. Even waiting only a few years to go back to college, I really regret not going to nursing school sooner. Best of luck either way you choose :)
  8. Awesome story there :) I agree with everyone that I think most of this is out of the question, but I don't think the stories about the nurses dating patients much later is a problem. As long as nothing happens while the patient is well.... still a patient :chuckle Nalini
  9. Just wanted to say thanks for the replys :) It's encouraging to know that you got the same response. I've even had someone ask, You do know what you will have to do, right? Thanks Nalini
  10. what have you said when people say why don't you just be an rn? i've been telling friends/family that i am returning to college and should start my lpn program in jan. not everyone, but most always ask. so i feel like i have to explain how i'm not able to put 3 years into this right now etc etc husband etc. i don't mean to offend anyone i guess i understand why they ask but it's getting really old:stone so what have you said? :)
  11. Thanks for the info :) I'm hoping this or the 11-7 shift will work, it's been really hard to find a job that will work with my class schedule for the summer.
  12. I've just completed my CNA classes and am wondering about the advantages/disadvantages of being in a pool. My understanding is that I can be called in anytime if needed but that I would be able to say no if I wasn't able to come in. Is it possible for this to be full time/OT/part-time? I'm hoping this will work around for summer classes for 6 weeks.... Thanks :) ______________________
  13. Well this is for Arkansas but maybe this will help... I would look in the medical classifides of your local newpaper for a CNA program. Here the tuition is $400-$600. It's possible to have a nursing facility sponser you, this is when they pay for your tuition and you work for them for at least 3 months. ____________________________ Nalini
  14. i'm planning to attend an lpn program in jan. i'm looking forward to it, but i have a few doubts. i have no problem working long hours but i am a little nervous about needles, it's funny because blood, etc doesn't really bother me. anyway i was told to try being a cna before going lpn... i don't think this is what would best because from what i understand cnas get the "crap" work and most if not all positions are at nursing homes, which is my last choice as to where work when becoming an lpn. not to down any cnas but there is also a problem with changing my scedule where i would work now to get the cna. i would really like to know what other people think that are already an lpn or rn... did you go for cna before going further? regret it? wish you would have? thanks for your help, it's much appreciated. :)
