  1. I've seen openings myself as a new grad but I don't think enough have opened to make a difference. Last year the BON shows almost 2,000 people passing boards here. Now I know not everyone stays and such but there aren't that many jobs for students to get when they graduate and pass boards. I've been out since December 09, took NCLEX in Feb and can't even get a phone call or interview about a job as a new grad. ...hmmmph
  2. I took mine same day :) thats what the Maryland BON showed for me, and I wasnt sure enough so I paid for quick results and sure enough, passed! The BON still shows my license as pending due to them checking backgrounds and such but the test is over!
  3. Took the NCLEX RN 2/24, tried the trick and got the good pop up. This afternoon (2/26) I checked my quick results and sure enough I passed! I left the test in tears and was sure I'd be the one exception to this trick. Best of luck to those waiting for results and those getting ready to test :)
  4. Congrats to all :) I'm only a little over two weeks away from pinning at AACC so I've been in your shoes .I wish everyone the best of luck. It'll be a tough 4 semesters but you've made it this far. If you have any questions just contact me
  5. To a few of my professors: 1. The fact that you get so excited over a bowel elimination lecture is slightly disturbing. Was it really necessary to have three slides on different poop scales? 2. I don't mean to laugh during lectures. The drag on for over 2 hours after a huge test, I have nervous energy and you put me to sleep. Laughing is the only way I survive. I try to keep it in and I pretty much always stay quiet, but every now and then a giggle slips out. 3. The orthopedic shoes you wear are distracting when you wear them with a short dress and white stockings...you seem so unlikely to be wearing them 4. You can't expect us to follow some of these ridiculous rules if you ignore them right in front of us. Cell phone usage is just as bad if its you all using them.... To my clinical instructor: Thank you for just throwing us in there and letting us do what we were capable of and not doubting us. You treat us like the adults we are and that is refreshing. But if you expect us to be there at 6:45 am...please do the same. We live as far away as you do and still make it there on time, despite the fact we're up all night doing drug cards and care plans.
  6. Do you have a nursing diagnosis manual? Mine lists 12 diagnoses for colostomy in the back... Complicated grieving deficient fluid volume disturbed body image imbalanced nutrition : less than body requirements impaired skin integrity ineffective sexual patterns ineffective tissue perfusion (GI) readiness for enhanced hope and so on.
  7. It really sucks that you don't have your diagnosis ref manual because all you have to do is look up the UTI and it has a list of nursing diagnoses for it. I don't know of any websites but I can suggest a few ideas... -Acute pain -Impaired Urinary elimination -Urge urinary incontinence I'd say the pain/fever is the priority... Good luck :)
  8. I feel the same way...mine is a little different of a scenario..one of my family members is constantly on me about wanting to be a nurse and making rude comments like " All nurses are good for is cleaning up pee...etc" and then when her puppy pees on the floor, they're like "hey why don't you clean it up, you're in nursing school, you gotta get used to it". Thats not all I'm good for :angryfire and thats not the only thing a nurse is capable of doing. I mean yea, sometimes you're cleaning bodily fluids, but they're there to help and take care of people...I don't get why some people look down on nursing.
  9. I'm a first semester nursing student we've been told by some random uniform lady to buy cheap stethoscopes. Then yesterday our lab instructor told us to spend around $80. I know there are hundreds of stethoscope threads out there, but is it worth buying a somewhat more expensive for better sound quality. What do you think the best deal is? Is $80 a good range? Any help is appreciated!
  10. I'm starting the RN program at AACC next week. I'm excited and really nervous. I took all of my prerequisites here, most online so I could work full time and save every little penny...It's said to be a little tough to get it and you do have to bust your butt so hopefully it'll be worth it. I just finished up buying textbooks... Good luck to you all :)
  11. Thanks, I just feel overwhelmed. I guess I'm realizing that it's not going to be what I had expected, I knew it would be difficult but I felt like they just threw a lot on us today. I really did plan but sometimes stuff just doesn't work out. I do have people willing to help, getting school paid for isn't really a problem---don't get me wrong, it costs a lot, but I have some money and family to help, it's just being able to pay bills while I'm in school. I'm sure I'll figure something out. I'm just freaking out because it all hit me today and I feel overwhelmed and needed to tell people who would get it...
  12. I had a plan, they gave us schedule that was far different from what it is now. I try to plan ahead but sometimes life just throws you a curve ball. Sorry that the change threw me for a loop. I have a job now that I was going to switch my hours to work around school but there isn't a steady schedule. Sorry for asking...
  13. I had a very intense orientation today. We walked in, signed in and immediately got handed course registration sheets already filled out with classes, all you had to do was fill in your name. They randomly gave out the sheets, half were for the first section (more so morning) and half were for the second section (more so afternoons). The schedules are so crazy. They vary day to day and week to week, the classes are in different buildings and the lab groups are all mixed around. The clinical sites were a little unusual. They're all rehabs or nursing homes with the exception of one hospital. It's like right by where I live so I put it as my first choice, but I doubt I'll get it. The reason I'm freaking out now is because I have no idea how I'm going to support myself while I'm in the program. I can't really work at all because theres no steady schedule. I'm in panic mode now. This is really what I want to do and I've wanted to do it for a while, but I'm just not sure how it's all going to work. It's an ADN program and I want to go on to get my bachelors/masters and become a NNP eventually. I wish I had stayed at home I don't know if I wanna take out a loan or not...I'm trying to weigh my options. Did anyone else have this issue? How did you deal with it?
  14. My micro teacher had us do gram staining several times. She had us prepare like 8 slides of our unknown, hit fix them and then store them in a slide box. That way if tests started to not make sense, we could repeat some. I redid my gram stain twice because the color was in between pink and purple, looked purple to me but the teacher had doubts. When I redid it it was definitely purple. It doesn't hurt to repeat...good luck :)
  15. School of Acceptance: Anne Arundel Community College Pre-Nursing Sciences GPA: 4.0 Pre-Nursing Cumulative GPA: 3.6 Mines an ADN program, that selects like 60ish...but I'm not sure how many applied for Spring 08
  16. I got my letter tonight!!! Good ending to a crappy day at work! I opened my mailbox to find a thick brown envelope. I was told we'd find out next week so I figured it was just some paperwork saying my petition for residency was complete and they were sending me a copy. I had a little hope it was "the letter" and I got a little antsy and tripped up the stairs in my apartment building. I opened it and totally freaked out. I'm so excited!!! I start in January '08. :balloons:Congrats to all those who got in as well :)
  17. Another thing I can suggest you do is mimic those actions and then luck at the diagrams in your text book. Not only will this let you get your project done, but it'll help you study for the practical, because those muscles will be on the practical as well. Your book should also have a chart of what the muscle actions are to double check. Good luck :)
  18. I took the summer classes at Anne Arundel Community college in MD, sorry ,look around though, theres some schools that have them online and have labs that are online too...they're usually at private colleges and cost a bit more, but if you're in a pinch it works. arabmagic, summer isn't too bad with micro. A&PII is alot to cover in a summer semester. I remember we covered a system a week and had a test every week and 2 tests some weeks. I felt overwhelmed but survived. Like I said, with Micro, it seems to fit better as an 8 week class. Labs are twice a week ( well they were for me) so you get test results quick and some information about some diseases and viruses you've heard before. Good luck with your decision!
  19. I too took both classes at the same time,I took them in a summer semester that was 8 weeks long. I got an A in both classes. I think you need to just think about how much the work is and how you're going to be able to balance it all out. Try planning out a schedule. Let me know what you decide and how it goes! Good luck :)
  20. Congrats to everyone that got in. I wish my school would just tell us already. The applications were due September 15th but they extended the deadline for our residency petition until November 15th so I know I'll have to wait until after then. It doesn't seem like long but I check the mail/email every day waiting to see something. I did get a letter a few weeks ago saying that they were going through applications and that mine was complete and they would let us know when October grades were turned in...so much for that! I just wanna know....ahhh
  21. http://msjensen.cehd.umn.edu/webanatomy/muscular/default.html This is nice because it has little quizzes, the only downfall is that the answers are multiple choice, which isn't what the test is like. But the way the muscles are pointed out is very similar to a lab practical. Good luck :)
  22. Hey, I had to have a PPD test for tuberculosis for both my job and nursing program. I got it on Wednesday morning and had it read on Friday and it was a little red, but had no raised area or 'papule'. The nurse said redness happens sometimes but it was ok and it was negative. Today I woke up and it appeared a little more so red and had several tiny (like pen point) dots that were slightly raised. Still no papule. Has anything like this ever happened to anyone? Is my reaction just a rash like reaction to the PPD injection? Or does this seem like a positive indication for TB?!? I haven't had one in a while, but I've never tested positive before, and the tests I always got where the Tine tests, ok its been a long while....:selfbonk: I plan on calling a doctor but it's the weekend and its not life threatening right now so theres no point rushing somewhere. Any input is greatly appreciated!
  23. You are supposed to flame the loop between every section. This helps to separate out the colonies because you pull so much out of the broth to begin with. You should have time to do it again, I took micro as an 8 week class and had to do my streak plate twice because I didn't get fully separated colonies at first. Our teacher taught us a trick to get it right every time. Use a sharpie to draw an outline of a box with one open side like |***| and number each section, make sure you have the lines intersecting. You just draw one down on each side and one across the top. You flame your loop, collect a sample, then streak it in area one, filling the area. Then flame the loop again and drag your loop through the side of area one into area two and "color" in all of section two. Then flame again, drag a little into area three, fill in area three, flame and then drag a few lines out from area three into the middle. You only collect a sample from the broth one time, at the very beginning, the rest comes from the previous area you streaked. Hope it all works out for you! Good luck and let me know how it goes :)
  24. my school has a weird policy too. The actual class is 4 credits and the lab counts as zero. Ours is like 48% Lab and 52% lecture. They're separate and the teachers are usually different. The lab teacher has to turn the grades into the lecture teacher, who then averages them out. That makes it a little more difficult to find out what you have overall.
  25. my community college says 2.5 but its a lot harder than that. It's so competitive, the lowest they took for this past semester was a 3.3
