Scared to mention even the slightest interest in CRNA progams?
i think alot of the issues would be taken care of if the op's would do a little research of their own before asking elementry like questions. whenever someone gets on here stating that they have always wanted to be a crna but yet ask a silly question of "do crna's clean code browns" it shows that they really are not very sincere. also a pre nursing student or even a nursing student questions may draw some irks from folks cause they have yet proven that they can be competent safe critical care nurses or a crna candidate. though, i am all for people doing or going into a field that draws their intrest but seriously some of the past questions posted on here made me question if the op had any idea about nursing muchless a crna.

What is the job market like for Nursing right now?
and what compounds the issue more is all thers people jumping hoops to get inot programs seem to have no idea how tight the market is now. "well yahoo said there is a big shortage" thats all i hear...i tell'em you need to screw yahoo and start talking to recent grads or older nurses to get the real scoop. but they dont litsen...might as well be lambs being led to the slaughterhouse.

Will EMT help me get a job in ER?
but lets keep in mind there is a big difference in the skill and educational level of a emt-p vs emt-b. i agree with rn1980, we have a few rns that have kept up there emt/paramedic credentials and still ride often. many times their extra training and education have helped many a sick pt from taking a dirt nap in my er. but regarding the op, i think expereince is the key and right now you just lack it in both, but you will get it soon.

Common practice for any ER??
regarding hanging blood, we will hang blood infussion via iv pumps. we are aware of literature showing cell damage but our staff hemotologist claimed he was in a study in residency that showed the damage is done when the rate of infusion is cranked up high, so we cant run blood no higher than 85cc/hr. it basically the same damage to the cell as trying to pressure infuse a unit through a 22g.

nursing shortage?
i dont beleive ther is a national nursing shortage, at least within the last 3 yrs. ther are adequate numbers to feel vancantcies. as far as mississippi, no there is no shortage esp. since there is around 800 new grads every yr comming to the field, for a state our size that is a gigantic amount. the article is full of stool.
-
Should I tell the hiring manager??
as long as you think you can do the job then give it a try and not worry about it. i work with diabetic nurses in the er and yes there has been times when they arent at their best, but i for one appreciate their effort even when they are draggin. try to find other diabetic nurses and find out any tricks they use to keep them going. good luck.

Anesthesia Provider Pay to Drop 60%
hey paindoc is gonna start feeling it when 21% medicare kicks in. The mda's in a group will feel it to, cause a fair amount of their buisness (elderly) are going to be on this plan & a good number of their patients will switch to obama care. The mdas that are hospital employees will find that the hospital will be looking at their pay stubs as well. Dont say it wont happen, all employees at my hospital didnt get bonuses this yr except the 4 mda's that work there. Once the onstaff radiologists and er docs found out they raised cain, and administration was faced with eitheir paying all bonuses or taking them away. Well when times are tough they take it away, and they did. Now we got a bunch of ****** mda's, but they are not going no where. Believe me they know whats just around the corner too.

New health care bill..
This is how it will playout. Almost everyone who feels thier private insurance is to exspensive will drop it and latch on the govt plan (which basically i'm cool with, heck it will save you a few bucks) Now like i posted before even many employers will drop the exspensive insurances they are helping to pay for adn sign on for the govt plan for their employees. Now the effect this will have on private insurance companies is many of their customers are leaving by the groves, so in a effort to not go bank rupt they will raise the rates on the few costomers that stay with them, how high? I dont know, some reading shows 30% to as high as 50% increase. Almost the same response as the hurricane insurances after katrina hit, the premiums just went throught the roof. I just think alot of the insurance companies will probabley fold and only offer v.i.p insurance to the wealthy or really wealthy corporations like microsoft and pro ball teams and such, not to hosptials and the middle class.

Anesthesia Provider Pay to Drop 60%
There is going to be a pay cut. 20% or 50% who really knows but one will happen. They are already reducing medicare reimbursements to what 21%. With the new proposed plan they are going to additionally reduce govt reimbursements by some 500 billion. Now you cannot tell me that when the hospital bean counters feel this crunch they are not going to to cut staff, bennifits and salaries from the janitor on up.

New health care bill..
I understand the way you are thinking in regards to more patients should equal more healthcare workers. In a ideal situation that would probably be correct. But with the passing of this bill the govt is going to cut some 500billion in financial reimbursements to hospitals, nursing home, clinics and so on. So the hospitals are going to be hurtin from that loss of money. Plus, a large amount of employers that cover insurance premiums fro their workers are just going to switch to the cheaper govt ran insurance. For example my employer uses Blue Cross Blue SHeild and pay $800 a month for my coverage, they are going to drop that and use govt insurance and probabley pay $400 a month. Now, most likley all big corperations will do this, walmart, k-mart, any industry that carries insurance for their employees will switch to the cheaper govt insurance plan in effort to save money. now how that eefects the hospitals is when these people with new govt insurance gets billed for treatment at your hospital, instead of the average payment of around 60% of the hospital bill that was payed by your old insurance now only the govt insurance plan will pay 40%. So for every $ the hospital spends on treating people with govt run care the hospital is only going to recoup around 40 cents back. Now ask any hospital bean counter and they will tell you that is a huge hit financially. So the hospital is going to cut back on things in effort to save money and historically nurses bear the brunt of this. Look for reduced hrs, wages, pay raises, hiring freezes and even lay offs. Sure even support staff will be effected but not as much as nursing. Face it, anytime the hospital losses money the nurses get screwed. And if this stuff takes affect I'm gonna try to pre lubricate with 2% lidocaine jelly cuase its gonna hurt.

Mississippi Life
well nursing is like anyohter place for the most part, some bad and some good. there are no nursing unions here which sux big time, which means you are pretty much at the mercy of the hospital. there seems to be a large non hiring freeze going on in the majority of the state from what i here. i think pay is probably lower than national avg. cost of living is ok. this is a big time medicare/medicaid state. hot & hummid during the summer milder winter than tn, but will have some freezing periods.

Just because you are a nurse...
And I consider that the fallacy in our system. The rapist and child molester gets decent health care and meals free access to education while they watch tv. But the family down the road who works their fingers to the numb to make ends meet have less than average healthcare and dont qualify for assistance cause its not in the budget to help Americans that actually try to help themselves.

Inappropriate ICU admissions
Our Nurse Case Manager told us that the VA always wants their VA patients to be transfered to the VA super fast cause civilian hospitals charge more vs. what the VA charge. Its the same when I'm on active duty in the guard, they beat it into our brain to seek gov't run facility first. Could you shed light on this.

Just because you are a nurse...
I think I could stomach Universal Healthcare if it was presented in a format similar to this. But it would not go over very well for the ones who are 2nd or even 3rd generational wellfare recipients. Imagine acutally having to volunteer some time to get assistance from the gov't, the nerve....
