I agree with Megsd. I think if you just keep reading over and over your not learning your just reading. For me to really get something I have to eventually put the notes down and start reciting it from memory.

End of May at the soonest for an August start. I think I'm going to think positive and start my immunizations early.

I guess I'm used to some other forums where we will go at each other with a hammer while debating various ideas. I guess I should resign myself to the fact that very few people on here want to do this. I think some people use the ER as their first stop because they can't get in anywhere else. Recently I'd thought that my daughter had fractured her arm, and she had, but out of all the doctor's offices that I called none of them had an opening less than a month away. I ended up taking her to he ER for lack of any other options. It cost an arm :) and a leg but from where I thought it was in relation to the growth plate it needed to be seen. It's easy to make the decision for myself that I do not want machines keeping me alive after an auto accident puts me in a coma. It's much harder to make that decision for someone else. If we do go the route of some of these forign countries with universal care etc I think the bueracracy will end up doing it from sheer indifference.

You do have some valid points. For example there was a percentage of money that was spent that my, our, children will benefit from. Highways being one example. But IMO that the vast majority of it was spent to maintain the previous generations standard of living while pushing the bill for it off on the next generations. Your google for 9 trillion is was probably accurate for sometime relatively near this particular minute. Right now the interest on this takes up somewhat over one third of the federal budget. Which would be enough to turn our yearly 800 billion dollar deficit into a even or positive number. If we maintain this yearly 800 billion deficit in somewhat less than 10 years two thirds of our governments budget will go towards interest. At this point, or even before, we will have a massive economic collapse which will mean even less money taken in taxes worsening the situation. We are rapidly running out of time to fix this and I very well could be wrong but I havn't seen anybody running on this platform. Let's go back to health care and medicaid. The 9 trillion that you googled does not include several things. Which is the money that was paid in taxes to social security and medicaid. The last numbers that I have seen detailing the the debt for this was somewhat over an additional 5 trillion dollars. That is a mind boggling amount of money that was not spent for what it was taken for but to, again, maintain the baby boomers standard of living. To me, the only acceptable solution to this is substantially higher taxes to off set this while this generation is still part of the work force. If they continue to push this debt off into the future leaving it for us to assume for them they will deserve exactly what they are going to get. Now let's take it a step further. Where did this 9 trillion dollars come from? Did they just wave their hands and make it appear? That's exactly what they did. What happens when governments do this, inflation. Why has this inflation not taken place? Because the world still has faith in the american dollar. When the world loses that faith all that money is going to come home. When it does we will hauling wheelbarrows full of hundred dollar bills to the grocery store to buy a weeks worth of groceries. If you look at any historical example this is the end result of a government printing large amounts of extra money. GardenDove says that I should be an optimist. And I am to the point that I think this is still a resolvable problem. It would include many things. Less government, higher taxes and fewer jobs outshored leaving the taxes paid on them, for services done here to be collected by our government. I'm pessimistic because our government, our representatives and our political parties won't even acknowledge that this exists.

A previous poster hit the nail on the head. The bank is empty, all the money that's supposed to be in it is gone. We have an entire generation, and even part of another one that spent that money. The spent it on everything but what it was it was supposed to be for. This contract with the generations was a good idea and it would have worked but the baby boomers broke the contract. The did more than break it they pissed all over it. This money is gone and just like my checking account they don't get to spend it twice. I see no reason that my generation should feel any obligation to break ourselves supporting their retirements, I see absolutely no reason why my children (5, 8 and 10) should be saddled with the huge amount of debt that they've already accrued and the tens of trillions more that are going to be added to it over the next 2-3 decades if this status quo somehow remains. This system, our system, teeters on the edge of an abyss. Just a few short years ago this edge was estimated to be sometime in the 2020's. If you've been paying attention to the astronomical deficits we've run up over the last 6 years or so you know that we've brought this quite a bit closer. What the ultimate solution is going to be, I don't know. But IMO that is going to include ten's of trillions of fake dollars that they've printed up coming home to roost. By any historical standard this should be causing double digit inflation, yearly. It's coming...

I never had a fear of needles until one day...when I gave blood to the RC and I watched them put the needle in. It looked like I could park my truck up inside of it. I wont say that I'm afraid of them, but I don't get back as often as I used too.

Yep, my app is complete except for one pre req class I'm currently in. I have until May 15th (after the end of semester) for that grade to be on my transcript. After that is the the wait for the letter. Or maybe I should say "The Letter" since so many people have already put a year of their life preparing for it. I'm also taking Eng Comp and Sociology, both are part of the nursing track itself. I can understand Eng Comp as a necessary skill I'm just not understanding the Sociology class.

Let me start out by saying that I've been told and seen the following.. It takes a strong committed marriage to survive both or either party swinging outside of the marriage. I have seen this cause many problems and even destroy a marriage. I also personally know several couples that do this and (at least from the outside) appear to not have any problems. Which one you will be, I do not know. The fact that you even brought it up leads me to believe that you've done this before. If you havn't I don't see this as making your marriage stronger.

The standard is unreasonable search and seizure. We have a court system that decides if a search is reasonable based upon specific evidence. We should not ignore this based upon expediancy. I've never been a fan of this 'nothing to hide' approach to law enforcement. We have the right to not answer any questions, not submit to having vehicles searched etc. Refusing to do so is not hiding anything, it is holding the police departments to the standards that the law says they have to follow. When we get to the point that this is no longer true I would personally hope that you are one of the first to be held in that little room in the basement of the police station having a confession beaten out of you.

That's how I read it too, if you accept a salaried position, ie you get paid for 40 if your work 30 or 50, in any type of work you are not eligible for overtime. If your paid hourly and only get paid for 20 hours if worked 20 hours then your eligible for overtime. The point I'm trying to make is that I don't believe this policy would stand up if put to the test.

Only paperwork I would fill out would be down at the courthouse for all the back time I didn't get paid. If the hospitol has a problem with that they need to take it up with congress.

Even if they did show up with a warrent for a blood draw you still wouldn't have any obligation to do it. The burden would be upon the state to supply the where and how not upon you to do it for them.

I have courses from way back in the day also. 1987 or so. My college doesn't know anything about them and never will.

A local CC is going to be your cheapest bet. Don't fall for the private schools sales pitch on how much better your training will be etc. It's not worth the added costs. As a current MT my advice to you would be to not do it. For several reasons. In 2000 the feds came out with a study saying that the demand for MT's would double over the next 10 years. In response to this the number of massage schools has doubled and they've gone from small schools graduating a few dozen students a year to large corporate schools graduating hundreds. The math doesn't work out on this. I was the head therapist at a prestigious spa in KC and for every opening I had I had at a minimum, 50 resumes. There are many forums out there for MT's and this seems to be pretty standard country wide. You also might consider researching careerbuilder.com. Do a nationwide search for MT jobs and you will get about 50 pages of openings. The first few pages will be Mt jobs, the rest will be for physical therapist etc with massage in the job description. Again, the number of job openings vrs the number applying for them is very small. I do see that you are in Florida which from my research is one of the more likely places to have openings for therapists. Which will somewhat skew the ratio in your favor but the number of schools is also higher. It's not all doom and gloom, if you WANT to be an MT by all means do so you will love it. If your doing it because you think your gonna make lots of money my advice is to go work at Mcdonalds, you'll make more.

From what I have found the Dept of Health and the BON for Mississippi websites have virtually no information about CNA. I can't even find the minimum number of hours needed for the certification. If you want to be CNA you have a few choices. You can pay a CC for the training, there is at least one private place to train in Jackson but it's 2300$ or so. You can approach nursing homes for in house training. Somewhere on here someone suggested that the Red Cross might offer these classes, I have not researched for this in Jackson. The most hopefull thing that I have found here local is a rural hospital that trains their own orderlies, non certified, from her synopsis of the job description it will be essentially a CNA position but I have to wait for the DON to get back to work next week. Beyond that I don't know what to tell you. As I said the websites have no information on the subject and while I'm pretty internet savvy I havn't found much anywhere else either.

I understand your position. I don't agree with it but I do understand it. I was addressing a broader picture of the war on drugs. IMO that history has proven that it is unwinnable. By any logical interpretation blatently unconstitutional in so many ways. And most importantly to me, the cost of this war from the crime it creates to the human cost in most of the countries south of our border undefendable.

He has a valid point. If someone goes out on New years and has a few drinks/smoke does that make them impaired for next Fridays shift? For any kind of work? If the answer is yes then I will support it right after we start requiring the same standards from our politicians, our attorneys, our DA's and our police.

I went and talked to some nursing homes and the two local hospitals today. One nursing home offers in house CNA training and said they had just finished a class and probably wouldn't have another one for a few months. I did get to talk to the ADON of the smaller of the two hospitals. I told her that I was pre nursing and wanted to see it from the inside before school started and I think it was a decent interview. She told me that they do not hire CNA's they train in house non certified Orderlies. I asked her for a synopsis of their job description and it is essentially is a CNA position. I need to go back and talk to the DON after she gets off vacation. I guess my question is... is this standard practice? If my wife lost her job tommorrow and I was stuck in this position would I be able to take this experience elsewhere and have it recognized?

I'm looking into this too as a way to learn if this is really for me before I sink 2 years into school for it. Our local CC offers a 16 hour one semester course on it but I can't figure several things about it. First, how does one CC graduate enough CNA's to satisfy the need for 4 counties worth of LTC's. (I live in a rural area, 90 miles to anywhere) and two, how do people that are looking to 'move up' to a 7$ an hour job afford the program.

If the school doesn't work this out in time to get you into class they have a problem. Getting the scores from the course together and coming up with a final grade by the due date is the schools responsiblity. I think if you review your schools policies it will say something about when the final grades are due. Not having this is a breach of contract on their part. I can see multiple ways that this breach can cause damage to you, all of which the school will be legally responsible for. If they don't get it worked out in time for you to start I would contact an attorney.

I think the key point in all of this was brought up but ignored. This is a news report, a short one, that has very few details and was probably written by someone with no medical knowledge. As far as the DA goes he's gonna release details that support his position, the defending attorney will do the same. Taking any statement released by either side at face value is a mistake. There is going to be two battles here. One in the media and one in the courtroom. The one in the media will bear little resemblence to reality. We all at least hope that the one in court will bring out the truth.

I appreciate the information and the advice. Unfortunately I am a biblophile and relaxing to me includes cuddling up with a book. Which maybe didn't do so much for my social life when I was younger, but it's fun to expound on some philosophical principle and watch my co workers eyes glaze over because the don't know the meanings of the words I'm using. Our school should be releasing next years book list sometime in January so I'll wait and get them for some light reading

I just finished my first semester of pre reqs. Our class started with 45 people and 15 were around to take the final. IMO that the main reason so many dropped is that they didn't study and it piled up on them to the point they couldn't catch up. Another difference was ages. The young ones fresh out of high school didn't care, most of them would say something similar to 'I'll take it again next semester'. You on the other hand are 29, old enough to make the connection between school and pay check at the other end.
