  1. Leech therapy! I always get those suckers to latch on!
  2. What is this nurse did it on her lunch break??? I don't see anything wrong with it, it's like reading a book on your lunch or break.
  3. In the inland empire in Southern California the lowest I've seen is 25 per hour for new grads
  4. I hear chino valley pays about 27 an jour for a 3 year RN and they go on a scale that is non negotiable, while arrowhead pays about 32 for the same experience.... Just my 2 cents...
  5. I think I still like nursing. One of my favorite things to do is feeding the patient, I like opening their food setting up their tray and if they need to be spoonfed I like to do that too. It's one of my favorite things of nursing. I also enjoy hanging blood, hanging TPN looking at their labs and making sure their electrolytes are not imbalance and then if they are, calling the doctor to get them replaced. I like combing and washing a patient hair who haven't been washed in weeks. I particularly like shaving and cutting people's hair that needs to it. So what do I hate about nursing? Demanding patients, demanding supervisors, rude people, and attitude problems. If we didn't have to deal with all the attitude of extra paperwork I think we'd all be a lot happier. I almost forgot, I also enjoy giving people their PRN medications and seeing them feel more comfortable after I have alternated medications to make them feel better than the previous shift that hasn't been able to get them more comfortable. Just a couple things I still love about my job.
  6. If nurses didn't cut corners then everything we did would never be on time and there would always be overtime...., I think cutting corners on small things is ok, it's the big things we need to worry about not cutting corners.
  7. Find another job, if something goes Down you will be held responsible.
  8. I can equate hh charting like doing a complete initial assessment each time, plus adding in all the teaching u have to chart. It is computerized by it still can be time consuming. I take about 30 min per patient to chart.
  9. We have a great morale were we work, mostly because our managers have a great sense of humor!!!
  10. I don't dilute if there is a running iv
  11. I think that u can make more per patient or hourly, but if u want to be safe I would take salary.
  12. Just got accepted into a FNP program. So excited! Any tips for me from anyone on what to except, how to handle school and work, stuff to look out for? Plain old suggestions? Starting in February 2013. Thanks for any input'many input
  13. I think what you did was right, only thing I would do is tell the patients the doctors plan and see if he agreed with you about the pain and how the pain meds were much more then he needed for the pain level, then if the patient agreed I would chart pt refused just to cover yourself. If the patient wanted the pain med then I would call the doctor and say the pt pain was only 3 and you didn't feel comfortable giving it. Just cause by not giving it and so something happens it will come back to haunt you.
  14. Well I think it was a very flexible job. Gave me a lot if room to run errands in between patients. Big problem I found for me is that now your on their turf. Not like in the hospital, it's not like they are at your mercy. If they don't want to see you then they don't in home health. I find the problematic patients more difficult in hh then in the hospital. No back up either, you are on your own. It's had many pros and cons but if it works for your lifestyle then go for it.
  15. If its per diem hh you probably won't make enough money. Just because it seems like most agency's pay per visit and most of the time you will only see about half the patients you are assigned. That has been my experience.
  16. H&P

You are right sometimes my agency gives me a h&p and sometimes they don't. I try and get all of their medical history using their meds and interviewing them.
  17. Don't leave ICU just yet. Get a perdiem hh job and see if you like it first. That way you can make an informed decision.
  18. I guess you are right. I was usually late with my documentation, but why didn't she just say that? I mean I would have understood that more.
  19. Hey guys, just wondering your opinions. I work Per Diem Home Health, today my boss informaed me I was fired because I made a short visit less than 20 minutes and the patient complained. So it was a follow up visit and we went over everthing I had to do, mostly with the caregiver. Aside from the fact the caregiver was extrememly rude to me and made it obvious she didn't want me there, I did my assessment, updated my meds, and taught them side effect of meds ect... So anyway, my boss said that the CG complained about my visit being short and that I showed up early to her house. Long story short, I have never got written up and I feel it was unfair. I am new to home health and thier policies but I think she could have talked to me about making a short visit before just firing me on the spot. thoughts?
  20. I think that you were right to say what you said. In the other hand, bring new yo nursing and all, and wanting to keep your job. I would just apologize, keep your head down, and be a good worker until you find something better. Sounds like your office is disorganized and don't appreciate you. Trust me there are better jobs out there and you will find a better one. This has happened to me a lot when the office "forgets" and makes me waste my tim; since I need the money I just ignore and work.
  21. Wow that sounds Luke a great idea. The only problem for me would br that since I work st the hospital some says too, it would be difficult to call in advance. The prep. Work would probably help getting my visits in though.the other problem is that the manager sometimes decides to change my patients day of..... But love your plan if I was fill time
  22. So this is what you called the bad part of HH I bet....
  23. So 8 months into working HH per diem, and I have noticed that some days I can't get ahold of the patients. They either don't answer the phone, asked to be rescheduled, or something. So I end up having 5 .people to see in the morning, to actually making 2 visits. As per diem I get paid per visit. So I get frustrated when I plan to see 5 and only get 2 in. What do you guys do or suggest I do to fix this?? Thoughts?
  24. I work HH per diem and asked of I worked full time if I could bunch my patients up in 3 days. My boss said I could but I'd have to be available the 5 days..... I am not exactly sure what she meant by that but I think if you know who you have to see for the week then u can keep seeing people everyday until you get tired or its too late.? I think it's possible but you will probably have a fourth day with one or two patients to see if you weren't able to see them in those three days. HH is hard to schedule.
