4 weeks notice?
Hi, I currently work on a Med/Surg floor and have been there for 7 months. I just accepted a full time position at a nursing home, since this has always been my passion and I now realize my calling in nursing. I recently gave my employer my 2 weeks notice and will start my new career in two weeks time. However, my current employer told me I suppose to give 4 weeks instead of 2. I have never heard of this before and I always thought a notice of resignation was a courtesy not a requirement. I am also partially quitting since my orientation experience there was horrible, being treated as if I was the most stupid nurse on the planet, and also having a very crazy work schedule with nothing being consistent whatsoever, where everyone else has consistent shifts. I am wondering if you have ever heard of a 4 weeks notice?

What would you have done?
The medication was morphine, and he had was very healthy, the patient also had no history of any drug abuse as well. Thanks :)

What would you have done?
So just wondering what you all would have done differently to handle this situation. I received an order from a MD to start a PCA pump for a new surgical admit, the order was for 10mg iv loading dose and then 1-4mg/10min for demand dose. First the pharmacy stated that the medication was pending due to the high loading dose, I called the MD to verify that that was the dose he wanted, he stated that it was. I called the pharmacist who still wasn't sure about it. I called the nurse supervisor and she suggested having the MD talk to the pharmacist. Pharmacist called me back and MD did not want to change a thing also letting me know to have narcan at the ready. The patient at this time had his pain at about a 3, no severe pain and mind you, no history of drug abuse. To make a long story short, I didn't give the loading dose, I just started the PCA pump at 1mg/10min and his pain had been fine. I am a new grad and I guess I am just wondering what you would have done and if I did the right thing. Let me know!

New RN on Med/Surg and so frustrated between 2 preceptors
Thank you everyone who has posted...it has really helped a lot and has helped given me some new insight for when I go to work. I have 1 week left of orientation and then I am on my own. Hopefully everything will go well :)

Whoa!! Tape debacle
At my work we use anti-adhesive pads that come in a pack just like the alcohol pads. I wipe the tape first then start to peel back, and while I am peeling it back keep using the pad on the space in between the skin and tape. Maybe something worth looking into.

New RN on Med/Surg and so frustrated between 2 preceptors
Hi, So I just recently graduated in May and I have been working on a Med/Surg unit for the past month now. I have been orientating with 2 preceptors. At first I really needed work with my time management and documentation, I have been trying so hard to address both. My Preceptor A has said that I have had a lot of improvement and I am doing great. Whereas, my other Preceptor B keeps coming up with lists and lists of changes to my documentation and everything else that I am apparently doing wrong. I am just so frustrated and confused, where one person tells me I am fine and then the other shoots down my confidence in 0 sec flat. My Preceptor B also goes and tells my nursing supervisor about how I am not competent and need a lot of work yet, whereas the other says I am doing fine. I am just so confused because when I have to work with the one preceptor I absolutely hate going into work. I feel that no matter what I do it's just not good enough for her. I have talked to my manager and she says she knows what's she doing...I guess I am just confused and frustrated and could just use some advice. I really do love being a nurse, but according to one of them I just suck and shouldn't even be working.
