  1. I became an RN in December of 2010, and immediately found a med surg position. I was 49 yrs old when I graduated, and have never had any age issues. Nursing is a great blend of old and young, experienced and newbies.
  2. I work at Methodist Hospital.
  3. A patient has the right to refuse medication and/or treatment. It doesn't matter that it is mental health, to force a med against their will is against the law.
  4. steer clear of Brown Mackie. my hospital will not consider their grads for employment. Stick with Ivy Tech, it is worth it!
  5. At my hospital, your scope of practice is determined by your job title. You may only perform tasks your job allows, no matter what training you are going through, or degrees or certificates you may posess.
  6. Wow. I hope to never be one of your patients,Kyrshamarks. Winter green, when I meet a patient, I stand near them and make eye contact as I talk to them. I give my patient my full attention as we talk. I try to learn something about them that I can relate to. When you are truly concerned and caring, your patient will feel it and resond to it. : )
  7. 1. go to the doctor 2. nobody will know if you don't tell them
  8. I took the nclex Monday 1-31 at 0800. I did the trick Tuesday morning, and got the good popup. Wednesday morning I had a license number and active status on the state licensing agency website!
  9. go over as many questions as you can find pertaining to med/surg! knowing the material and answering well at nursing test questions are two different things! good luck!
  10. I choose D. Chicken has protien for healing and would be easier to chew and swallow without sticking to lesions. Don't assume that the patient has chewing/swallowing impairment or what the food temperature is. Be careful of adding things that the question does not ask.
  11. Which part was unfair?? you made errors, you lied about them, and then you blamed everyone else for them. The school is doing the responsible thing. A good gpa is NOT what makes a great nurse.
  12. provide or encourage high fiber foods
  13. it depends on your gpa and that of others who apply. they go by points from your pre requisite classes, A = 30 B = 20 C = 10 plus your TEAS test score. typically, over 180 points will get you in.
  14. I agree with the Hogan reviews and rationales, plus I use Med surg success ( Colgrove and Callicoatt) now, in med surg. good luck = )
  15. You need to think about assessing the patient, then diagnosing the problems. Go thru the nursing process and Maslow and you should have plenty of things to work with.
  16. most nursing students I know, and me too, can't get the A's we did in pre req's. that is because nursing school is hard! is is not for weaklings, and you have to be prepared to study your patooty off for an o.k. grade. better grades will come as your knowledge and applying techniques grow. hang in there! good luck!
  17. I agree, 1. D 2. D 3. A,D
  18. Yes. Always speak to the nursing department. The regular office people and counselors do not know the particulars of how the nursing programs work.
  19. Sorry that you are having such a hard time. You should be discussing this stuff with her doctors as they should have the answers and be able to help in sorting out a plan of care for your Mom. good luck
  20. What do you mean by nursing order?
  21. offer toileting every hour or two ( so he can be helped and not risk him getting up by himself)
  22. nope pretty much a normal care plan. I am finishing one up tonight myself. sucks to be a nursing student!
  23. hang in there! it passes.
  24. I know it! We were quite upset, but eventually came to understand. They can't place you by points you may or may not get. I think they should change the application deadline dates to better accomodate the students.
  25. check your campus nursing office, at Valparaiso Ivy Tech they will not "wait" for grades. at least they didn't for about 30 of us who had applied for fall 2008 and had to wait for spring 2009.
