I know this question has been asked a zillion times before. I would like to know what would be the best way of tackling the required science courses. Chemistry, Microbiology, A&P I, and A&P II I have a feeling most of the replies will be something as simple as "Whatever you feel comfortable taking during a given semester and what kind of course load you plan on having". If at all possible I would like to here from those who are tackling two science courses in a single semester. At the moment my spring semester (tentative) has Chemistry (MW) and a Nursing Microbiology (TTH) course with one to two courses in addition to those on those specific days.

Once the letters go out I would really like to know what the cut off point was for this term. Thanks.

Is there any kind of work to be found in Neurology for male nurses, or nurses in general?

My plan is take a science + lab one day (M W F) another science + lab (T TH) with any luck that should break things up enough so that they don't become jumbled. If that’s not enough to drive someone to drink, I’ll be taking these additional courses: Concepts of Professional Nursing, Dev. Psychology, and finally Nutrition. With any luck by the end of the semester I won't be bald nor sleep deprived.

I would go talk to a counselor and find out what you classes you will need to take. After that with the list of classes he/she gives you try to pick between 2 - 4 classes. I would suggest not mixing science courses, unless you can really handle it. If you budget your time you should have no problem taking both English Comp. or Psychology during the same semester.

I was just stating what HCC requires as per their 2006 - 2007 catalog. Even if I make A's for the remaining prerequisite courses for UTA's program. I will at best have between a 3.73 and a 3.82 GPA overall, and there is no telling if that will be accepted.

I was afraid you guys would say something like that. Don't get me wrong, i've passed everything thus far but there is one class I think I should have done better in.

Well you said it yourself, there is no way of telling if you passed or failed based purely on a number of questions. I would suggest that you take the day and relax, you'll find out your results shortly. Best wishes.

This is somewhat off topic, but I thought since I am considering the ASN program at El Centro as well as the BSN program at UTA I would like to know your thoughts are about re-taking a course to improve your prerequisite GPA? OFF, OFF TOPIC: I am currently working on an Excel spreadsheet that covers both the prerequisite and the courses that are required for the ASN program. So far it can calculate GPA on a per semester basis and give you an overall GPA for the entire program at that point. I am using a 4 point system to calculate the GPA (4 = A, 3 = B, etc.). What would be a good place to set the decimal place? At the moment I have it set so that it looks like X.XX, though X.X looks better.

According to the 2006 - 2007 HCC catalog you must have the following: Math min: 75, Reading Comprehension: 70, Grammar: 75, A & P: 70, GPA min: 2.0 Passing TSI (BIOL-2401, ENGL-1301, PSYC-2301, RNSG-1301 with a "C" or better) and complete a pharmacology mathematics test with a grade of 90% or better. Well after doing a little digging, the 2006 - 2007 catalog lists the ASN degree plan. Other than course number and course name changes I don't see any difference between the two. You would think that the school would try to maintain its website with the most up to date information then second that with the printed catalog. Am I wrong? Do you know how often they have these information sessions? As for tuition, it still appears to be $36/h for in county residents and $66/h for out of county residents. This is only slightly higher than what I would pay for a single hour at TCC. My plan is still get through the prerequisite courses and all of the other non-nursing courses as if I am attending UTA's School of Nursing. That way if the BSN program doesn't work out this time around I can still (wishful thinking) get an ASN through another school and still apply for the RN to BSN when the time comes without having to worry about prerequisite courses. Has the ADN program at ECC changed since its program page was last updated in April 2005? Have they added any additional courses required to obtain the ADN for instance CHEM-1405? I would agree. This is one reason I am looking forward to starting the BSN program at my local university. While I agree that a degree/certificate doesn’t make the individual a better candidate, it does show that the individual is willing to go further than other candidates. My perception may be off, but I’ve noticed that a majority of jobs these days require that you have an advanced degree (BA/BS) when maybe 5 – 10 years ago they were accepting people out of high school for the same position. I’m counting down the day when a fry cook at McDonalds is required to have a BA in Food Management. This may not be new but, has anyone else noticed that with nursing unlike any other profession you can simply quit your job in City A, and move to City B without a job and with relative ease find a new job.

Would this be any worse than taking Chemistry & Microbiology together? Any time you take two science courses during a single term you're asking for an orifice whipping.

I would suggest having a sit down with the instructor and explain your issues. If this does not resolve your issues, I then suggest that you have a sit down with the department chair, but to be nice inform her/him of your intentions. You may also want to talk to your lecture instructor as well and mention what is going on to see what her/his thoughts are on the matter.

If you don't mind me asking, what was your prerequisite GPA? If you don't mind could you give me both your overall GPA and science related GPA
