Broward College Nursing January 2012
Hi all. I am in process of studying to take HESI A2 at Broward College. Since you guys have already taken the test I was wondering if you could answer a question for me regarding the math assessment section. I know a built in calculator is provided on testing day. My question is scratch paper allowed or provided also to work out your answers on testing day? Just want to know so I can prep accordingly and prior to taking test with or with out using scratch paper so I can simulate the testing environment I will be encountering on test date. Thanks and good luck to all that have applied or are to begin in Jan 2012

Application to Nursing Program at Broward College
Pharmacology cannot be taken until you are accepted and enrolled in the nursing program. As for microbiology, it is not required as a prerequisite for submitting your application to the nursing program itself. However, it is suggested it be completed prior to starting the program given the heavy workload encountered once you are accepted and in the program.

Please help answer a couple questions :)
With regards to whether or not you give permission to have potential new employer contact your current place of employment, definitely say yes. you can couch it by giving them permission once and if should an offer of employment be extended. They would not contact them anyway until an offer is extended in most instances

Med-Surg Exams
This helped me for med surg. In outline form List disease/disorder, pathophysiology of the disease/disorder, diagnostic tests to used to identify each disesae/disorder and special nursing considerations associated with each diagnostic test, signs and symptoms of the disorder, special nursing implications that go along for the disease/disorder as well as listing the meds used to treat disease/disorder and corresponding nursing implications associated with each med. It may be time consuming but as you are writing you are also reviewing as well plus no need to reread chapter--your notes will be all set for the exams

Here is a link to the prerequisites. In addition, you need to take microbiology although it is not a prerequisite in order to apply meaning you can apply before aking it althought most take micro prior to applying to lesson their course load while in the program since it is required for graduation from the program http://www.broward.edu/nursing/nursing/AdmissionInfo/page8599.html

Disappointing news, what can I do?
see if you can volunteer as a candy striper in the hospital or go to the hospital and see if you can volunteer as a reader to the children in pediatrics--that will get you some esposure to the environment Just a thought!

I'm in my first semester of my BSN, not sure if I can do it.
If your teacher relies on powerpoint presentations for lecture use that as main studyguide/source while using textbooks too deeper reinforce those topics that correspond with lecture. To further supplement your understanding, pick up suanders nclex review book and match up and review topics in class with sections in sunders.

Miami dade community college GPA for nursing??
It all depends on how competitive the GPA's of the other students who apply for the same cohort. Past cohorts traditionally have had acceptance GPA holding steady at 3.8 or 3.7 for MDC. Also, it depends on which tract you apply to also generic vs accelerated. Accelerated gpa tends to be lower but not by much because the majority seek accpetance into generic or part time

swollen lips...should I reschedule interview?
I would go. It could bring some levity to an otherwise tense/nervous situation. Itcould serve as an ice breaker to set you at ease at beginning of interview by you cracking a joke about it Therefore you address the situation upfront and can get you worries about appearance out of the way and ten proceed to concentrate on the task at hand--landing a second interview or job offer.

when do i take the TEAS test?
looking back at your post I would assume since you are in the process of taking a and p and you have not heard from them as of yet, I would assume you did not meet cuttof due to gpa or the fact all science prereqs not complete.. follow my suggestion as posted in my initial post
