I don't have an answer for you... just wanted to chime in that I am in the same boat. People keep asking me what specialty I want to work in... at this point I would be happy just to have a job. My friend graduated 2 years ago and got a job offer in the mail months before graduation just because she was enrolled in nursing school.

Absolutely, do the RN. LPN positions are being eliminated all over the place. Several LPNs graduated about a year ago and out of 30 of them only 4 had jobs within 3-4 months. Also, getting into LPN to RN transition programs can take awhile as well. If you get into the RN... do it.

buy all of the groceries that I want to and that I need! It's been too long

For me locally, none of the hospitals are even hiring LPNs only RNs. A few of the new LPN grads from my school have only been able to get jobs in LTC. Glad that I went with the RN program after hearing about that.

Be prepared... it was about $900 for that first semester. But you use most of those books for the rest of the program. I don't think the new book lists are up yet on campus connect... my list is old and wouldn't be right or I would tell you.

I took med term and it was awesome. Everyone keeps saying that it's a good filler class and that just isn't true. This class should be required for the nursing program. It makes everything that could be gibberish to you clear. When instructors are talking a mile a minute about things you have never heard of many times you can put together what they are talking about with your understanding of medical terminology. Take it! It is a time saver once you are in the nursing program so you don't have to stop and ask what they are talking about every 5 seconds. It is a pretty interesting class as well.

I think I have the #1 way that you know you are in nursing school..... You realize that all of these are true... and you have spent the last 4 hours reading 20 some pages of them!

My fundamentals instructor was recently retired when our school ran into a wall trying to staff all of our classes. They asked her back and she came to the rescue. So she literally came out of retirement to teach us as her last class. We gave her a nice little clock that had an engraving on it that said thanks from your last nursing class. It was from one of those little gift engraving places in the mall. It was a beautiful wood clock with a silver plaque on it. I think it was only about $40 but it was so beautiful and she cried and cried. It was great

you can scoop up the cap using the needle it's self... just leave the cap sitting on the table near you so you don't have to touch it... then make sure that you don't push the cap on but it will at least be covered if you have to walk for a sharps container

I am in the same boat as you... starting school on the 20th. I had chicken pox back in first grade but instead of getting a titer I just got the vaccine because it only cost $10 more. I haven't been around anyone who has had pox since I have had it so I don't know if I am one of those people who would get it again. Because of that I just decided to get the vaccine. I didn't want to pay for a titer and have it come back and then have to get the vaccine anyway.

I think something must be going around... I live in Lafayette and for some reason I could not sleep at all last night either! I felt really crazy last night... restless, uncomfortable, too hot even though it was cold inside. I was up all night and finally slept for about half an hour before I had to be to work. I'm only just starting nursing school this fall though so I still work a job that isn't that important. I don't think it would be unreasonable for you to call in. what if you make a mistake later on in your shift because you do start to get tired.

wow... that sounds scary! I wonder what mine is going to be like. I can't believe that you have to pay $20 for the syllabus!! that is ridiculous!

when i bleed my blood is bright red... i'm sure everyone's is. in the past when i had my blood drawn into a vacutaner tube (so there was no oxygen contact) it was a dark purpley maroon color. like this but a hint of red in it.

wow... my orientation is july 9th and I don't think that date is ever going to get here!! I'm so excited to start now that I've been accepted. I can't wait to see what all I have to get before school starts

I got my acceptance letter over two weeks ago and I am still compulsivly checking this PRE nursing student forum... Oh well, maybe in august I'll start reading the regular nursing student forum. I think once it sinks in that I'm actually in nursing school I will start freaking out. sooo scary! I can't wait!

definately get the study guide... it is the only thing that I studied and I got a 92% on the teas. it should be available at your school bookstore and if not you can get it off of the ati website

I think that the main problem is that a shortage of nurses equals a shortage of nursing teachers so schools are rather limited when it comes to accepting new nursing students

not yet... but I heard that the Lafayette ivy tech was going to send them out on the 10th so it could be any day!!!

my answer will only be a little bit of help to you... or maybe reassuring. I'm trying to get into ivy tech lafayette and I heard that the average score that they accepted was an 83% last year... so you could possibly get in with an even lower score than that maybe. hopefully the lafayette scores are about the same as in muncie

I'm sure you will do fine... just don't get stressed because once I finished it I definately felt like it had been an easy test since I was prepared for it

Wow, Congrats! Thats great. I did the online assessment and I scored an 89 composite. To be considered for the program, I need to score in the top 70th percentile. Do you know what percentile your score was?? my 92% was good for 99th percentile nationwide so getting an 89 would still be very high

I took the teas about a week ago and ONLY studied the guide and I got a 92%!! you should do fine if you are using the guide... make sure you know how many cups are in a gallon!

I'm guessing by your Purdue name that you are attending the Lafayette Ivy Tech... I am as well. I heard that the average teas score that was admitted into the nursing program was an 83% so you are doing well. I took my teas on friday during spring break and was stressed out... just trying to turn in my application sometime this week now and start waiting!
