Roll Call 2016-2017
Here! We don't go back till after Labor Day, however, I have already been in the office a few times....put my office back together, organized paperwork, made calls to incoming K parents letting them know that I still need immunization records or their darling child may not start, made appointments with incoming diabetic students to review their med orders and agree on a daily BG check and insulin administration schedule with the parents, I still have to make my teacher medical lists, update careplans, etc....it is going to be a busy year!

fed up- cant get a job
I agree. I graduated in May of '07, took the summer to study for NCLEX, passed NCLEX in July and then started applying. I am still looking....most hospitals in my area hire twice a year, so I am trying to get in a new grad program for January/February. Good luck!

Lessons learned from NCLEX
May I add that what helped me was to really take my time for the 1st 75 questions - I truly did NOT want to take all 265, so I put all my effort and focus on answering the 1st 75 will all my brain power....I think my head would've exploded had I had to take all 265 ques.

Looking for my 1st RN job - question
So I have applied at five local hospitals and have heard nothing, except that most of them are NOT hiring new grads. I have passed the NCLEX and at this point will take any part-time job there is. At first I wanted to specialize in post-partum but now I will take anything including medsurg. What I don't want is a non-hospital job. For me, I think I need the "good housekeeping seal of approval" with my 1st job in a hospital. Anyway, so my question is, do you think I should start contacting people I know to get a job? I sort of wanted to try to get it on my own, but it appears being a new grad and getting your 1st RN job is a lot harder than I thought. I know a TON of people, mostly Doctors and Administrative staff who work in hospitals and I guess at this point I should start asking them if they would kindly pass my resume to a nurse manager?

new grads having time finding jobs?
I am also a spring 2007 and I just passed the NCLEX. As of yesterday, I have formally applied at 5 area hospitals. I was told at one that they don't hire new grads I hope I don't encounter that message at the other places. Luckily for me there is no rush, so I will sit and wait for the phone to ring. If I don't here something within 6 weeks or so, I will start calling my various contacts at the local hospitals.

What nursing class at your school has the most failure rate?
We lost 1 in fundamentals, 1 in medsurge and 2 in ob/pedi.

Did you use Kaplan??
I just passed NCLEX this past Monday with 75 questions. I bought the Kaplan book for $35 and didn't take the class so I can't help you there. About 1/2 of my exam was content and the rest meds, drug calcs and some priority. I don't think a Kaplan course would have helped me either way after reading the book and passing on my own with 75 questions.

Results: to look or not to look.....?
I also took it on Monday and checked Pearson Vue every single hour since that time! :) And I am burning ALL of my notes when I get home, although I am passing along my NCLEX study prep guides to my friend who is still a nursing student. Doesn't it feel great to be done?!?!

Second Time Failure
I am so sorry. What do you think might help you pass the next time? It is content or strategy that you think might be of help?

...and now I sit and wait
I passed!!!:balloons::balloons::balloons: I just found out about 10 minutes ago. When they say 48 hours, they truly mean it. Now I am off to enjoy the 4th of July holiday. Congrats to everyone and thank you for the support! Woohoo! Clarise, RN

??? Did You Keep Your Boards A Secret From Classmates And Friends?
Hmmm, no, I told a few of my close nursing school friends that I took the NCLEX. I am the first in my class to take it. If I pass (find out tomorrow), I am going to send an email to my class letting them know. If I fail, I will only tell my close friends.

...and now I sit and wait
Good luck! I am hoping that the results are available on Wed!

...and now I sit and wait
I just got back from taking the NCLEX. I thought it was REALLY hard. I had 75 questions and it took me 1 hour and 53 minutes. I definitely took my time! I was on question 72 and was starting to sweat, just praying for the computer to shut off. It started off okay and after question 5 or 6 I thought the questions got very difficult. Lots of priority, about 4 drug calcs, 7 or so medication questions (side effects, etc.), teaching, 1 herbal, some legal questions, hipaa, a few L&D, some Pedi teaching, F&E, etc. I am so glad it is over! And now I sit and wait...

NCLEX results on a holiday?
Thanks! I am a little nervous, but not too much. Only a few more hours left till I leave to take the NCLEX. I am spending the morning doing errands with the girls and then my sister in law is coming over to watch them so I can leave early and get a quick review in before I take it.

NCLEX results on a holiday?
I am taking the NCLEX tomorrow, July 2, 2007 at 3pm. So if I use Pearson Vue quick results, they would be available on July 4th after 3pm. Obviously, July 4th is a holiday. Do you think the results will still be posted? Or am I doomed to have to wait till Thursday the 5th after 3pm?

I passed!! And you will too!
Congratulations! I am taking mine this Monday, July 2nd and just can't wait to get it over with!

Keeping Nursing Textbooks...???
I am a week and 1/2 away from taking the NCLEX. As soon as I know that I have passed, I am boxing up all of my textbooks and putting them in the attic! I am also going to give all my NCLEX prep materials to my friend who will need them next year. I can't wait to clean off my desk!

Any Certified Lactation Consultants Out There?
I will be following this thread closely as I also want to achieve my IBCLC in the next few years. I am a recent graduate, and am taking the NCLEX in 2 weeks. I am also taking the CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor) training in 1 week. My goal is to obtain a part-time/2 day a week RN position on a postpartum floor in September. Good luck to you!

To the new grad ADN nurses...
I am starting a direct entry MSN program in the fall. I am skipping the BSN route b/c I already have a bachelors and a masters in other subjects. Even though I just graduated with my ASN and have no work experience, I still want to start the MSN right away.
