I am possibly interested in making the jump to agency nursing. What are the agencies that are being used around here? Anyone have a referral for me? I live in Vegas already and do not want a traveler position; just looking at an agency one. Thanks!

I took the Nclex this week. I had 265 questions. It took 5 hours. I took one 5 minute break. I did NOT get the last one right. And yes, I PASSED!!!! Just relax. I know easier said than done. If you go to 265, than the machine doesn't judge you if it is 95% sure you are competent. If you go to 265 then it looks at your last 60 and see if the ones you got right were generally at or above competency level. Kepp us posted!

I took my test Monday and just got my results a few minutes ago and passes with 265 questions. You should get your results today. The wait is terrible!!!

Thanks for the advice!! I decided to look since my results were there and I thought I would THROW UP if I didn't! I am happy to say that I passed!!!!

Jason ~ I am thinking about you and am sending positive vibes! More than 75 questions is frustrating, huh? Kizzy Kat~ By question 200 I was thinking "I just want the dang computer to decide! Yes or No! Please computer make up your mind and shut off! I can't keep going like this." I started to make mistakes at the end. Three times I would answer something and click "next" and than realize I hit the wrong answer. I had to take a sec and refocus A LOT! But hey, at least it gave me 265....so..... When I did the question trainers on Kaplan and was doing over 200 questions I would take breaks and do a load of laundry or make myself something to eat. I scored 64% on #7. But when I was taking the NCLEX I took only one break since I was worried about time. It was easy to get tired and blurry eyed. UGH!

I am freaking out a little right now. I took my test on Monday. I thought I was prepared (did Kaplan online and scored mid 60's) and that I would have 75 questions and it would shut off and I would feel pretty good. Well, what REALLY happened is I went all of the way to 275! It took 5 hours and I was COMPLETELY brain dead by question 150. Anywho, since I went to the end I know that I at least was in the game the whole time. My dilemma is that I am supposed to go to work tonight. I am on the schedule for Wed, Thurs, Fri and I don't know what I should do. If I look at the quick results today, and pass - well great! BUT if I didn't pass I have to call work and tell them I can't come in. I was thinking about just waiting for the envelope in the mail to see if I passed. At least I will be able to work.... but I will probably go crazy. What do you think?

The preceptors here get 30 CE credits. I agree that their should eb a reduction in those students tuition.

I am a nursing student graduating this May. I am finished with my classes/clinicals and have 90 hours left on my preceptorship/externship. I am really surprised to hear some of you say that you wouldn't let students do certain procedures. I have had nurses not let me do procedures on their patients which has hindered learning a specific skill, and some GREAT nurses that would grab my hand and say "let's go! You are going to do this"! I thank the Lord for those nurses, because now that I am in preceptorship I AM doing those things. It is very much in my and my patients favor that I can start an IV and put in a foley correctly and confidently. During my clinicals, any meds that were given, or any invasive procedures were ONLY done with the RN I was working with or my clinical instructor. Since the procedure was monitored closely, I would not have been able to have a med error or put the patient in danger in anyway. We all have to learn somehow, and it is much better to have students learn BEFORE they are an RN when they have someone there to guide them VS. being out there and doing it on their own.

CCSN has to DOUBLE their admission by fall of this year required by legislature. So, Fall 07 will have 240 students entering the program. That's 25% of applicants getting admitted after applying. However if there is a 1000, you will find that not all of them qualify or have a high number of points.

The major issue is Nurse-Patient Ratio. They are on strike as of today.

I am in my 3rd semester of the program and took my standard dosage test we get every semster so we can pass meds. Well, I didn't pass the test! BUMMED! Because now it is only one more try and if I miss more than one than I am kicked out! I have passed every test up until now with flying colors, so I don't know what has hung me up this semester! My problem is with rounding up. I did the work just fine, but evidently rounded up to the nearest 10th where I should have rounded up to the nearest 100th. AND the math book I have is contradictory. So please help me! I need to know: With meds PO then I round up to the nearest 10th? Such as the answer comes out 0.67 ml so would I round up to 0.7 ml? How about when the answer comes out to 0.75 ml. Would I round up to 0.8 or leave it at the 0.75 With meds by syringe I round up to the nearest 100th? Such as 0.166666 is my answer so I round up to 0.17 NOT 0.20? In my book one of the answers is 1.67777 and the answer was to round up to 1.7 UGH! Why am i SO confused? What are the basic rules? (like round up all gtts to the whole number) for PO and IV. How come on some answers it seems to round up to the 10th and others to the 100th when giving the same kind of thing such as an injection? (None of the injections were Heparin) Thanks!

Sorry about the late reply. I am SO busy as you can tell so finding time to get on this website is rare. Things are going well and the teachers are great! I did my LTC and now my acute care at Lifecare on vegas and jones. It is a decent facility. Actually the nicest smelling LTC I have been in. The nurses are nice there and helpful. Let me know when you get your letter and if you have any questions when you start let me know!

Just a quick note Lisa. With 24 points you will probably be fine. I am currently in the first semester of the full time program att CCSN and I only had 14 points. From my understanding out of the 392 applicants everyone with 14 and over got in. They had a lottery with people with 13 points. They had lots of people with 13 points and 20 spaces left over, so they were randomly picked. The point system was different. Like people with 224 done only got 2 points when I entered. So if I was enetring now I would have like 22 points. They are giving so many points for 224 now because the Nursing Program is a lot of work, and if you are taking 224 with that they are finding these people to be struggling! They WANT you to have 224 BEFORE you begin the nursing program! So since there ARE fewer applicants and you do have 24 points, I would be seriously in shock if you didn't get in! So congratulations! I bet you are there!
