Nursing requires continual life long learning. I like the pocket med-surg guide as a reference. I also use the CDC and heart association website, and a Diabetic Meal Planner for my patient education that I received from our board certified diabetic educator. I am currently studying for the RN AMB certification because I am working in an outpatient clinic setting. I can relate to your love of nursing and wanting to give the best quality care. I have never worked for free but I am sure volunteering and public service will look great on your resume. Good luck with your plans.

I haven't heard of any privacy breeches at the facility with smart watches, but I am sure if it happens they will change the policies and ban them too. We have more patients and family having privacy breeches. It would be sad for me to let my smart watch go because I use it to set multiple alarms and timers to stay on schedule with multiple task and also it also alerts me to any emergencies while I am at work. I enjoy the convenience and efficiency it provides me with work. I was referring to sadness for me, not for you. I am sure it is a blessing for you not to be dependent on it.

Go to settings and see if you have the option to extend the screen time to 1.5 minute. Sad to hear.

I have 25 experience as LVN, but only one year experience as BSN, RN. I am horrible and very uncomfortable with starting IV's during my RN training/orientation rotation. I bought a nice IV arm and a 'slab of meat' on amazon to practice with, and all my coworkers laughed at me.... LOL. I don't really need to start IV's to do my job because I can always call on specialized IV infusion nurses/PICC team for the very rare times my patients will need IV access in an outpatient clinic, but I just want to improve my skills for my own personal skill/knowledge and competence. Please post any reference of the best text, video, or courses that would be beneficial in improving IV start skills. My goal is to become the best RN I can be for my patients. (No negative comments needed, I am only seeking professional correspondence.) Thank you.

Your method sounds safer, but I would check the instructions from the manufacturer of the drug before advising.

Nursing schools tend to teach nursing in sections: med/surg, pediatrics, pharmacology, mental health… etc. Then during that last semester they switch up an mix it all together with the diagnostic, which is really testing your preparation for taking NCLEX/ safe practice exam, also different from the type of exams given in semesters prior. It may be that they didn’t prepare you for the style of questioning. I would advise all nursing students to prepare for diagnostic/NCLEX style questions pertaining to each semester course during that semester instead of waiting for last semester to take the exam. Nursing is for you if you want it to be. It takes a lot of pre-preparation.

I am not sure if your rationale for not taking the covid vaccine is because you are ready to die or if you afraid the vaccine causes harm in some way? The covid vaccine should not cause you adverse reactions; since you have already had the actual covid virus splashed in your eyes, face, and mouth. The only jobs for unvaccinated RN's will be employers that don't accept medicare/medicaid or any financial assistance from government funded agencies etc... You are really subscribing to an "alternative medicine belief system" which are rarely government funded. It would easier for you to take the covid vaccine to find RN jobs, because people using "strict" alternative medicine practices (as opposed to subscribing to best medical practices guidelines/ or safe clinical guidelines and government funding) have no reason to hire a licensed medical practitioner.

I agree. Many patients have altered mental status and wonder off. Medicare also doesn’t cover cost patient sitters. I heard of “story” of a patient being discharged from the hospital in pajamas and he was later found outside directing traffic, but his IV access was removed first.

update 1 It turned out to be another Fairy Tale eggplant, but I do have a Rosa Bianca plant which is correctly labeled that seems to have a fertilized flower so I am praying that it will go full term. I wrapped the Rosa Bianca plant in a frost blanket to keep it warm because we will have a few cold nights in the 40's F (pic below). I found two more unlabeled eggplants, both with white fruit. One has long white fruit which looks like a Casper, and the other has more round white fruit. I picked several bell peppers too, so that the plants wouldn't struggle tonight in the cold.

Update 1 I lost some seedling to multi adverse factors: too much water, fertilizing too early and poor pest control. However some of the seedlings have matured to very strong and healthy young plants. I found a clear storage box with clear lid at Home Depot that I will use to start my new seedlings for succession planting and also early starts for my Spring Garden planning. My goal is to establish my beginners garden and grow food year round ?. We are expecting temperatures to drop into the low 40's F tonight so I will be cutting the Frost Blanket roll into pieces to cover my peppers, tomatoes, and other frost tender plants tonight so they won't get stunted again from the inconsistent temps. I will also start companion planting herbs or smaller veggies under my miniature fruit trees in containers to hopefully deter the weeds from sprouting and make better use of my garden space. Picture #1 below is a young Late Nagasaki Chinese Cabbage plant that survived nicely, and picture #2 are seedlings for succession planting along side several plastic cups filled with seed jump starts of various varieties of pepper and tomato plants for Spring, that haven't sprouted yet. Is anyone else planning a Spring Garden this Winter?

Zone 9a We had a few nights that dipped into the 40s in November. Some seedlings like Milk Bok Choy were eaten by pest so I will be succession planting as needed. I am still thinning out broccoli and cauliflower and using the delicious tender leaves in cooking. The radishes are still flourishing. The pattypan squash is not looking so good, but I will give it a chance. My favorite plant this week is the Poinsettia I bought from the grocery store 2 weeks ago. I had to move it from the table and place it between 2 Brussels sprout seedlings because the wind blew it down. I like the way it adds a pop of crimson to a Winter background.

Has anyone ever tried multiple times to grow plants that totally fail every time and then they surprise you by appearing in your seedling salvage box bearing fruit? ? I had a storage container that I would sometimes replant seedlings that I thinned out of the main garden. This morning I was pleasantly surprised to see a Rosa Bianca Eggplant fruit growing from one of the matured salvaged seedling plants. I was never successful with Rosa Bianca eggplant in the main purposed garden. I am trying not to waste seeds and seedlings. I even made a delicious meal with the baby leaves of thinned out broccoli and cauliflower seedlings sautéed in olive oil and garnished over rice and vegetables. I will plant fewer seeds next time because the germination rate is high most of the time and Garden space is so valuable.

I planted beets, carrots, and radishes in 2 plastic storage container in September or October. I pulled a few of the plants out today to check the progress. The carrots and beets haven’t formed yet, but the radishes are definitely a winner for me. Zone 9a

I also forgot to mention that I sometimes cover the plants with toole on colder nights in the 40's F. I just found Frost Shield 6' x 50' roll at Lowes that I plan to use when temperatures drop into the 30's F.

I live in Texas, zone 9a. I haven't gardened in over 5 years because had abandoned it when I decided to go back to school. Now that I finished school I am getting back to gardening for hobby. I envy people with green houses, but maybe next year I will buy small one. For now I am experimenting with getting back to my love of gardening in zone 9a.

The toradol incident is a computer program issue. Some hospitals have computer programs that will alert you when the previous pain med dose was given. I have seen orders and given patients up 60mg toradol at a time so the dosage seems safe anyway. Most hospitals won't allow the nurses to write orders for the doctors, and fortunately make the doctors do their own job. If you had to explain to state board of nursing most likely the doctor would deny delegating this task to you. Instead of beating yourself up about crappy hospital and unsafe hospital practices maybe you can join a hospital shared governance committee to suggest and make changes. You not only vent your frustrations in these committees but also help improve working conditions. Usually the hospital committees require evidenced base practice and nursing research prior to making changes. They also like you to show them how much money they will save.... etc. Good luck to you in your nursing career, you actually sound like a very caring nurse.

Look for Nurse Residency programs in California. Most hospitals are requiring new nurses to begin in a residency program now. You may have to sign a 2 year contract ... etc so they can recoup their investment in training you.

I am posting the pictures and writing about my garden on my days off to relieve stress. Thinking about my garden helps me through the long and exhausting 12 hours shifts at work. I haven't considered a hobby in food styling yet because I don't know how consistent I will be yet. Thanks for the complement. I might post my Baker Creek seed haul later this evening. I haven't eaten the stems of the rat tail radish yet or checked the root growth but the seed pods are so delicious, beautiful, and grow vigorously.

Thank you for the info about weight loss. My co-worker eats pepper for to prevent constipation also. I grew 6 spineless okra seeds this Summer which 5 sprouted and produced more than enough okra all Summer. It is actually still producing but slowing down because of the cooler temps and decreasing daylight hours. I plan to grow a red or purple okra next Summer to add more color to the garden. I like okra in gumbo and as fried okra.

Rat tail radish makes a beautiful ornamental potted plant and is also very tasty for dinner. Mix this tasty seed pod with other vegetables straight from your garden. Add yellow pear tomatoes, banana pepper, fairy tail eggplant (pieces with fewer seeds), garlic chives, Pompean “rich taste” olive oil, salt, garlic powder. Stir and then dump into a hot skillet for 5 -10 minutes. Serve with baked chicken and white rice. ?

The most productive vegetable I have grown this Summer was the peppers. I was surprised at all the nutritional value packed in peppers, which has made me want to grow more of them next year. I don’t like hot pepper taste but I have learned how to remove the seeds from jalapeños to make them mild. My favorite tasting pepper is the long sweet pepper. I had a beautiful potted long sweet pepper plant that died after the pot blew over in the wind. I still have one in the ground but baring far fewer fruit, maybe because it is crowded by other pepper plants. I found some 12 in pots with water saucer attached which seems to hold moisture longer. I plan to plant a long sweet pepper in one of these pots next Spring and hopefully it will make it to fall next year. I am enjoying the second harvest of tomatoes which I pick green so the pest won’t get them. Another advantage to growing peppers is that pest don’t eat them. I will paste a pic of tonight’s harvest below and an old pic of my long sweet pepper plant that died.

The squash bugs always seem to take over my squash. I only harvested 2 decent squash this year before the plants all died from pest. I refuse to give up, so I planted several seeds of various squash and pumpkins a week ago. My next strategy is to plant more plants in hopes of increasing my harvest. There is nothing better than going into the back yard and picking fresh produce to cook everyday. Hopefully I will get pattypan squash one day soon. ?
