  1. another suggestion I do to keep a record in my head is the next day the kids I sent home I will see if theyre here the next day if thats the case then I know that the next "tummy ache" can be a redirection back to class. also when a kid does the " I threw up in my mouth" I also explain in order to go home for vomiting I need to see a lot of chunks not just spit or in your mouth.

I forgot about the meth/cat urine I would think dps would have noticed it? but who knows right?

So this has been an ongoing issue with this family. the 5 girls we have in the district all seem to get complaints from teachers last year about a very strong cat urine smell. last year it wasnt nearly as bad but I did deal with lice almost weekly with these students as well. when I talk to mom she seems to give the reasoning that the cats are in the girls room is to why they have the odor that they have. this year I decided to be more strategic about it and have some designated clothes in my bathroom for the one child to change as she needs so the teacher can also get some relief as well. when the teacher talked with the student she has mentioned she only showers once a week and clothes as well, and when I talk to mom I get a different story. from my understanding DPS has stopped by several times and have said its a lifestyle issue. Our family rescource specialist has reached out for several years to offer a place to shower, clothing, etc. and I guess mom does not want the help and gets upset when we offer such. Something just doesnt sit right with me about this, I guess the health aide at the sister's middle school called me today because she went to her today and said she was in the hospital last week because she was being poisioned by her sisters??..parent was called and said that was not the case this whole thing is totally bazaar.... has anyone else gotten to this point with a student/family?

Any advice for a student with body odor? just some backround before I started 2 years ago the school and my district RN was well aware of this student and her other siblings on our other campus'. Students always have an ongoing issue with lice, come to school with tanks tops when its snowing out, and the biggest problem is the one child on my campus smells really really bad like cat urine. From what I am told DPS has stopped by before and say its a "lifestyle" pretty much it isn't abuse its just body odor etc. this school year I've tried keeping clothes aside for her clean so she can just come and use my bathroom and change but the smell lingers in my office im sick to my stomach and shes only in here for a few short mins I feel like im getting the run around from admin as far as what to do with this student, they like the idea of her changing her clothes but the teachers are telling me the students and them still notice the odor. Any tips would be appreciated!!

very good tips and suggestions that I totally agree with also after this has been a continued thing with this student I also will tell teacher " mom has said they are fine" so unless theyre throwing up and you can see it do not send them in here and if it happens after that then I would talk to your administrator about having a conference with student and possibly their parent/ guardian I feel like for me this has helped a lot with stomach aches, I still get them but I feel like I have nipped 50% of these in the butt this year
  8. I've been brainstorming some ideas to change our nurse passes for the next school year. Currently ours has students name, todays date, arrival and leave times, teachers name and a place for me to sign. I am thinking about adding in a section that has the teacher checkmark some strategies they have tried already in class kind of a reminder to teacher and student first too of what they need to try before just sending them into my office. Im trying to prevent the " I fell and hurt my leg back in 2012" or "my head hurts" when they havent eaten, drank any water before coming into the health office, hopefully this makes sense what im trying to verbalize. any tips on what you have on your passes?
  9. this is a good topic as I honestly havent even considered this!

    enjoy it!! sincerely, swamped ?
  13. I wish we could send home for more than 2 symptoms but I guess thats the districts wishes and protocols I just hope it doesnt come back to bite us when we start getting more positives within our district ill keep you guys in the loop, luckily our area is very rural and are numbers are pretty low so hopefully it stays that way
  14. the districts stance on it is we cannot say for sure or its our place to diagnose a student. it could be a range of things allergies, flu, a cold, etc. It's up to the parents to test the child and report to school if they have come into contact with someone and are quarantining at home or inform us that they have tested postive otherwise we don't do anything. only protocol we have in place is temp checks for staff & students, and if we do get a confirmed postive anyone who was within 6 ft or less of a student or staff in 24 hr period will stay home two weeks. so far were on our third week of full time in person instruction and have had 1 that I am aware of, there could be others but possibly the district hasn't informed anyone yet.
  15. My district is only sending kids home with temps or vomiting other than that they could be hacking a lung and have all the symptoms and they can stay in school, however I had a kid tell me today she threw up last night and her parents had to work and thats why she was at school....this might end up causing more covid quicker in our district...we shall see
