  1. We have over 1700 students. PreK -12th grade. We are on a one campus setting. We have a nurse at the high school with about 500+ students, and I have prek-8 with approx. over 1100 students. I have over 20 on meds and 4 diabetics. It can be busy at times. This year we hired a sub to do PRN and help with the hearing screens, Immunizations ect. So far it it working out. This is my second year here. I just requested to be put on salary. Do any of you school nurses get salary? Or is it hourly. I get paid 25.78/hr and only work when in school is in session. Any nurses thoughts???
  2. I think you did the right thing, why would you wake someone up to give them pain meds!
  3. I worked as a ward clerk, CNA, LPN then RN. I worked in rehab, hips, knees, IV antibiotics, tube feeds, hospice ect. Then, medsurg, Psych for 7 yrs, ambulatory surgery for a Retina Center , now school nurse. I gained tons of experience working rehab and medsurg. I love being a school nurse now, but miss the elderly! Hang in there , you will find your nitch!
  4. We have a great Health Dept in our county. I have prek-8th grade , over 1100 students. We do all of our own contact tracing here at school. How would the health dept even know the seating charts on the bus, lunch table or the classroom?? That would be next to impossible for a Health dept with 1 nurse to do!
  5. My 1 st year was the worst. I would see 60-100 kids a day, several diabetics, and over 20 on meds. This year is a little better, same amount on meds, but not as many sick kids. May be the hand washing or masks, IDK!

  7. I live in Indiana, this is my second year as a school nurse. I make $25.78, which is low compaired to hospitals.
  8. We have approached out Admin team about putting us on salary. I have over 1100 students here at my elementary school , over 600 at the High School. Which has their own nurse. I took a huge paycut to come here from the hospital, since I am hourly. NO pay for holidays, summers, fall break , Spring breaks ect. We do receive Cares Act money for E learning days, if we have no work to do in our office. I guess it evens out, the hours vs pay and flexibility, but it would till be nice to get pain all year round! Any thoughts out there....??
  9. I just started at our school system last year. Crazy as it was, this year is a little better. A lot of e learning days. Is anyone out there salary paid? If so how much?
  10. Best wishes to president and Melania, Mask actually do help. Maybe now he and his family will start wearing them!
  11. Yes ! all of the new rules are as clear as mud! I have over 1100 students. Pre-k -8th grade. We have approx 100 out still on E learning. I am not looking forward to after FAll Break, when they all come back!
  12. 2nd yr as a school nurse, I have prk-8 th grade over 1100 kids. I feel like I need a epi pen in my office for general use. Where do I get that? Should I ask our Local health Commissioner?
