I have been a working LPN for 15 years I love it I make app 21.00 hour I work 3-12 off 4 it is fantastic. in the ltc where I work at they do not like to pay OT so not too much worry about that, Some days are challenged as far as stnas and work loads but I still love it , I only think about my RN since they hired on this new RN who took 4 times to pass her boards, she worked at facility in office job till she passed since then I am frightened for the facility she is a danger I will not go into details but she has forgotten all clinical knowledge, yes they know the powers that be but they need the RN for state regs so the LPN that work with her pick up the slack and pray she really doesn't have to make a decision on her own that is out of our practice that will jeopardize the facility or any residents. I do fell sorry for her because she really wants to do this but it seems so far over her head and I truly think it is for the pay check only and to say Oh I am a RN! This is the only time I think about it. 1 to protect my residents 2 I end up having to do most of it for her, even how to chart 3 She gets paid more and I am doing both jobs hers and mine.

I have had a few that thought I go over board with my nursing , my reply has always been,,"I have never been called to the office for doing too much" You had no other choice RT's line was busy, on to plan B...

when in doubt,,, I spell it out!

I love Ohio it is pretty and green right now (okay also like a green house) and winter is also pretty ( and the reason I have 4 wheel drive!) But by far my favorite season in Ohio is fall it is perfect!!:rotfl:

I love 12's yes I am beat the first day off but I have a life now!!

good shoes and lots of rest the night before! I do 4 -12 in a row I feel like I am on a roll then I will get 5 off!! worth it to me and I am 50 years young! I generally go home clean up put on my pjs have a lite supper and off to bed my family understands this is the system I need to be able to go in and give it my 100%But I love love love that time off!

We have a new grad RN that on 3-11 shift is doing cartwheels in the hallway and no shes not a 20 something! I told the LPN who was orienting her she needs to let her know this is so unprofessional! How will the other nurses and STNAs ever take her as a superior with her actions!:uhoh21:

Big-B How true! My best friends son just came to work at the LTC where I am at,,, I did not encourage him to.. I have been here for 15years it was also my first job out of nursing school. It has changed so much since then, I would have run out the door 15 years ago had it been so rough! But then I thought about it, I was so starry eyed then. I had big dreams. I love working there it is a challenge I have learned so much. I have alot of frustration daily , those who do not work the floor have high demands for us that do,,, it is so sweet when push comes to shove and the powers that be have to lower themselves and work the floor, they are in tears. I am proud that I can do it well for my residents. but it doesn't happen overnight so if my best friends son survives he will get a great education if not he moves on and find where he wants to be in nursing... this is not the only place.

They stick a little "c" by your name, when I committed to my NM she said "It's not a b**bie prize I trust you", But it still would be nice to actually be asked.

1 I usually get paged back to the desk 2 I get so busy I forget till its just too late 3 I have way too much paper work 4 I agree upper crusts should assist take over but they won't . 5 My fav,,, the omen ! when you try to ,some one falls, sudden admission shows up,skin tears or the aide reports they can't find you!!! sometimes it just isn't worth it.....

agree with all the above! Administration=but thats not in "our" budget.

It always amazes me that in a situation like this where a person who can't seem to get their work done on time always has the time to go and tell their side of the story first.

Have the DON put that request in writing !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets see where I work at .. they want it all done the "right way" have mock surveys to prove that.. The numerous office staff crawl out of wood work to heip,,,only then and on a real survey. Get it done on your time and NO overtime! And you better be taking your lunch break,,,its your own fault if you can't manage your time any better then that! and don't complain if you didn't get a break either ,there will be decipinary measures taken! Oh yeah NO overtime! Make sure you write your orders, call the Dr, check the labs,pass the meds the right way ,30cc h2o flush before you bolus 5cc between each med(all 10 of them and the blood suger check and vitals) Oh my God! you touched the bed with your gloved hand ! quick wash and reglove its the policy here! I see you have fingernails...that is not allowed here. Did you chart on all your weekly charts.. all the therapies? the behaviors? MDS needs this or we don't get paid we don't get paid you won't get paid.You are not paying enough attention to your Stna's they are not doing everything the right way this is your responsability to make sure they do it all . by the way the Stna's are reporting you, you don't help them enough! It's about the money to management, I would love to get to spend time helping with hands on..know my co-workers better and do every thing by the book, and feel that managment supported me..that will never be.. I am crazy cause I still love being a nurse and taking the best that I can care of my residents even if I don't get a break and miss almost all my lunches..........The managment will make their $$$$$$$$$$$$. this is just a little part of how it feels to work the floor. Do you think someone wants to come in on their days off to this,, you heard no OT you will get sent home early if you have over 40 hours leaving your co-worker to finish by them self...I will not do it to them....I will work only my scheduled hours. Everyone I work with feels the same. as long as the call off is through the week, they all fight about it but if no one will come in they make the office nurses take turns,, only because they are afraid state will come in but even then they only work the floor till 1000 and pull the treatment nurse to the floor, so then we have to add all the tx then....

Just wondering how many times you are allowed to take your state boards? We have a person at work who they hired a while back who was going to be the new RN... pending passing boards.. well they created her a job(clerk) when she failed the 2nd time and 3rd times. She is heading into her 4th attempt, ( I am very glad I passed the first time right after school.Can't imagine the stress!) This person says alot of things and is even making threats on some nurses and stna's jobs because she say.... "she will be everyones boss some day!" She has chosen who she plans to fire,,, we really are not that nervous but it would be nice to know if there will ever be an end to her reign! Just curious?

I have worked 3-11 for over 13 years ,I created a life around it, I loved going shopping and not standing in line to check out you get in and out faster, You can exercise before work and not be so tired , if you are tired in the morning, sleep in! If you can't fall aseep when you get home sleep in in the morning. I could clean my house before work the day before a day off then my day off was mine!(no one was home so it didn't bother any one but the pets). I hated 11-7.. I was always tired and trying to get caught up on my sleep but I really didn't sleep alot with 3-11 I actually set my alarm so I would get up early to exercise and get things done before going in, this way when I got home I was in bed and asleep within an hour. I am presently on 7-3, a new world it is nice being done with my working day at 3 but I am finding out that I am not exercising as mush as I like , hate shopping in the evening. but really like the staffing on days more help, more experienced help ect so I don't know if I'll stay on the shift but I will give it a year before I go back cause it is easy to stay with the familar. I did need the change and so did my family.........good luck:)

I work 8 hour shifts, I go straight from work to gym to work out cause once I am home forget it,,, I'll walk the dog later but if the couch gets in the way there's a problem Huston!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1:devil:

oramar: I live with my husband of 25 years who has PTSD (active duty nam,CIB with numerous medals and bronze star)) I think that there is a big difference,we went many years with him trying to hold down a job but he doesn't function in society he doesn't handle crowds his reactions are extreme, he doesn't sleep at all , then maybe he will just lay in bed for days, I can't and don't want to know what he went thru, I have days I hate my job and days I love my job and many times I feel burnt out I take a vacation and get away if it was so bad I'd go into something else, but I would still be able to function. His world and the ghosts that haunt him are with him they will never leave him alone till the day he dies, If you have a chance read Veitnam Wives, helps some to understand . It is very sad it some times takes years to come out most women married to these men divorce or you learn ways to live with , I have a great man who is a hero he didn't adk to go do what he did he was made but he did what his country asked just my opinion..........

Why would the state let it stay open Josifek? I am sorry that you worked at a place like that! I am even more sorry that the elderly would be placed in a place like that!! I mean wouldn't the State put it in immediate jepordy statis? Having evidence that someone was allowed to commit suicide?Dear God, I would have called the state myself even if I did work there! I will pray for these poor souls.I hope the place is closed down ,places like this give all nursing homes a bad name and if it is staffing state needs to step in and raise the ratio of pt to nursed to aides, but in this place I think it all needs to go.
