I am in the FB group too! But I want to keep this thread up just so future applicants can stalk us. lol I am hanging in there. Word is that the last group got notified of acceptance just 10 days post closing. Today is day 10 technically. I am trying not to get excited at every new TCC email notification, but it's happening already.?

400! Woooooow. And there are still three days left to get apps in. Crazy! I have read a few of the 2019 threads in here and definitely saw people with two Bs getting in with high HESI scores. I know it depends on the applicant pool, but I think you've got good chances. 96 is amazing!

I wouldn't give up just yet. Math can be learned. Get your GED, and then enroll at a community college in your area and talk to an adviser. You will need to take some basic math courses first before you can take the college level math courses required of a nursing program, and I have never heard of a CC not offering plenty of basic math classes and tutors for people in the exact situation you are in. Take advantage of the resources available to you, because there are plenty. With math, there is usually an "a-ha" moment when everything finally clicks. Also, look up the professor ratings online, make sure you sign up for classes with effective professors, it makes all the difference. Everyone needs to start somewhere! Good luck

Yes! I am taking a full load of classes for the same reason, lol. I am taking Math 1332, sociology, English 1302, and History this semester. These classes also apply towards the BSN, so it's good to get them out the way now before we are busy with the nursing classes. Trying to think positively, here

I have personally gone from a 10 minute commute, to an hour long commute (for a former non-nursing job, I'm just a nursing student at this point). Let me tell you...it sucked! It adds two hours to your workday, and fighting traffic makes you mentally exhausted. I wasn't happy when I got home, I wasn't happy waking up in the morning knowing I had to drive for an hour. I'd take the second job in a heartbeat. Plus, you get guaranteed holidays at home with the kids? Make those memories!

It said that my Spring 2020 nursing application had been received and processed, that no further information was needed, and to check emails the end of September / early October for notification. This was sent to my TCC email addy.

Yes. Did you turn yours in? I turned my app in last week. The lady in the office reviewed it right then and there, and I received a confirmation a few days ago. I need September to go by quickly!

We are very similar in scores! I finished up with AP 1- A AP2 - B Micro - A HESI - 92.5 My highest was math - 96. Lowest, reading - 88 ?

With nursing, you are dealing with people's lives. The anatomy and physiology knowledge needs to be fresh. On the other hand, if someone has a math degree they haven't used in 10 years, no one is going to die because they forgot how to graph a differential equation. With that said though, every school I have looked at in Texas has a five year limit on science courses, but most schools waive that requirement if you have been actively working in the medical field for several years.

I have one more week of micro and lifespan, then I am DONE with all the gen ed classes and the required pre-reqs.

Hey lurve! Firstly...great grades! You can get a referral for any of the credit by examination exams from online advising. The test are taken at the testing center at Trinity, I believe. But, I think the deadline for the fast track option was in March? I may be wrong, but I think fast track starts in the summer...so apps have to be in by March. Double check! Is anyone going to the nursing info session on Tuesday? I wonder if it will be new info, or just a review of the information already posted online.

Definitely check with your school to see if they offer healthcare for students. Most of them do. Also, a lot of the time "stable transportation" just means you can show that you have a reliable way to get back and forth to campus. If you don't own a car you won't need auto insurance...so, you may just need to Uber or take public transport to school daily, if you aren't too far away.

I don't think she would have gone over the details of orientation and explaining what a typical day is like, had you bombed the interview. Unpredictable hours are not an bad reason to be looking for a new job, either. Employers want honesty. I don't really see anything wrong, from what you have posted.

Have you had your resume reviewed or redone by a professional? I used to work in an office with a cubicle next to a recruiter. The things that make them toss applications to the side are numerous... An email address that isn't professional Small typos Voice change (going from third person to first person) Odd formatting or too many erroneous details Anything that may even *hint* that you'll be a handful/hard to work with/you are pretentious Not saying that any of these things apply to you, but an outside opinion might not hurt. Also, if your resume lists all your credentials and you state that your NP is in progress, this may raise eyebrows because they know you will be out of there as soon as you complete your NP.

I think this is less about talking in the OR and more about not following directions. It's unfortunate you have to repeat the course, but from what I read, you were told to stop talking twice, and on the third conversation attempt, they threw you out. I would imagine that would definitely cause someone to tell you to leave the hospital.

Hey willowmadrone. Not that I am an expert or anything, as I am finishing up my nursing pre-reqs as we speak, but there are so many varied branches of nursing you can go into that will fill that niche. Like you, I love love science and all my science classes are 4.0, and I love people. I am thinking of specializing in psych/behavioral health because I think it will allow me to use my strong people skills with some medicine and science-y stuff. Since you have a background in counseling, this might be a good route for you to consider. Another route I am thinking about is working in the OR. I can see myself getting amazed with surgery. Just remember...in order to get to where you want, you do have to survive nursing school. I would try to avoid the stories about people who hate their profession because if you google ANY profession, you'll find people who complain about it and wished they chosen some other profession. Don't let the first week disillusion you.

Oh - one more thing. Brookhaven is 16 months, Mountain View is 18 months, and the others are traditional 24 month programs. Hopefully that helps!

It's the community colleges with GREAT programs and most have dual enrollment options with UTA and TWU. Tarrant county college is a 24 month program and requires 3 pre-reqs - AP 1, AP 2, and Micro. The application process is very straight forward - 50% science GPA and 50% HESI score are combined, and the top 180 students are accepted each Fall and Spring. Dallas County Colleges (DCCCD) offers nursing at the El Centro, Northlake, Brookhaven, and Mountain View campuses and each campus has it's own set of pre-reqs and hoops to jump through which is absolutely maddening if you are trying to maximize your options and apply to a few different schools!

Hey ya'll. I plan on applying to both TCC and Brookhaven...maybe Northlake too, If I can get a physical done in time. Just popping in! I was looking at possibly applying to MVC too, but Algebra just is not my friend, and never will be. lol

In Dallas/Ft worth, there are 16-18 month accelerated programs and 24 month programs. Most of them require 3-4 prerequisite classes before applying.
