  1. We definitely have alot of Extreme helicopter parents. Honestly when that has happened to me with a parent-I just flag them in the computer and call them for anything and everything I see that student for. It usually isn't that big of a deal.

This is the criteria we use. So no, not every asthmatic, food allergy etc student needs one. ihp criteria.pdf

It does depend on how sick they appear and what they were doing when they vomited. We do NOT automatically exclude for vomiting 1x. As we all know- kids vomit for many reasons and not always due to illness.
  4. I am in Texas. We are not contract tracing at all this year. It was for sure a Full time job last year by each campus nurse and the district Coordinator together. The District Nurse Coordinator does still report positive students to the Health Department. We are only Quarantining Positive students. Family members may attend school as long as no symptoms. If they begin with any symptoms they must have a Negative Covid test to return.
  5. This is the book I see most often recommended. https://www.amazon.com/Manual-School-Health-Educators-Professionals/dp/1416037780
  6. I am in Texas. I am seeing either fever and sore throat or they are Asymptomatic.
  7. I got mine 3 weeks ago (Moderna.) I had alot of arm soreness and initially thought it was just a Side effect. However I am 3 weeks in and still alot of upper arm pain and shoulder pain. My injection was given quite high on my arm and now I am questioning whether my complaints are related to improper injection site/technique. I have done some research on it and it is alot more common than you think. Anyone else have experience with this?
  8. Texas. In person since Aug.17 with the option for virtual. Currently only 19% are still virtual. 8000 students on campuses and 1500 employees. 48 total cases with In person since 8/17/20.
  9. I just asked my District nurse supervisor about this last week because I feel it is something that is going to come up. She stated - Not without a Dr. order AND if approved thru 504 or ARD

how do you get the form to parents each year? Our health forms are part of our enrollment packets for ALL students. So it has to be filled out every year. New students fill it out on paper. Returning students fill it out online. The parent can NOT continue the enrollment process if it isnt filled out.

My 1st job out of Nursing school I worked a hem/onc unit at a Childrens hospital (7yrs). I then worked 15 years at a Pediatrician and now am currently in my 8th year as an elementary school nurse. 1) LOVE the hours (I have kids in select sports and school athletics and this has allowed me to go to basically everything.) My district pays for your years as a Nurse- so I did NOT take a paycut and got the added bonus of great hours. What I do not like is sometimes its boring and sometimes I feel isolated. 2) I see anywhere from 15-35 kids daily. stomachaches/headaches, injuries etc. daily meds, inhalers, I do vision/hearing/scoliosis screens as well as the "Puberty films" 3) MY ADVICE to anyone who wants to do school nursing is to be VERY comfortable and confident with your assessment skills and I always think having pediatric experience is best. 4) You are on your own for this one.
