The majority of the students in my class (and, I believe, in many classes around the country) are somewhere in their early 30's, with children. There were only a couple girls who were about 22 or 23, and very few students WITHOUT children. In the year 2000, the average age of new RN graduates was 30. I'm sure the average has gone up in the past nine years.

Check Craigslist in your area, too! I bought an expensive textbook/DVD bundle from a student who had failed the previous semester and saved myself a ton of money on that set.
  4. Same here, no special calculator needed. Most of the calculations are basic division and multiplication; plugging numbers into different formulas (eg calculation drip rate and how many milliliters to give).
  5. "Wait..we have white pants and I wear black underwear because you can't see anything underneath." I just want to know how you can wear black underwear under white and not have it visible Do you have a dark skin tone? I am pale white and black underwear would be totally visible in white pants...people would be snickering at me behind my back LOL! And the poster whose school had a "no thongs" rule...whaaat? That's all I wear! I can't believe a school could dictate what KIND of underwear you wear...as long as it's not visible through the pants, it shouldn't matter if you're wearing granny panties or going commando I am glad our school has us wear purple; I may look like a grape-colored stick walking around, but I can wear whatever underwear I choose!
  6. I'm the opposite of plus-sized (XS scrubs), but I do agree that the elastic-waisted pants are waaaaay better for ANYbody, of any weight. The tie-waist ones are a huge pain.
  7. "read this carefully. write it down. lock in into your longterm memory bank. EAT LESS, MOVE MORE." And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the golden nugget of truth! I gained nothing during my first semester of nursing school. If I felt hungry, I ate a healthy snack. We occasionally took little walks during lunch break. Gaining weight in nursing school is not unavoidable :redbeathe
  8. I was on the wait list for about 33 months before I received my spot. Most people in my class (of 42) were on the list for even longer...about 36-40 months.
  9. I agree with everybody who said to 1) just hang them up right out of the dryer, 2) throw them back in the dryer with a damp washcloth if they're slightly wrinkled, or 3) use Downy Wrinkle Release (though I actually use a homemade [read: cheaper] version made from a recipe found online). While it's true that if I can't find an extra 2-3 minutes to iron, there's something "wrong"...I would rather spend that 2-3 minutes helping my kids with their homework, reading a story to them, or hanging out with my neglected husband
  10. Nothing required of us, though we have an informal "reading group" formed; we plan to read most (or all) of our med/surg stuff, and possibly some of the OB/peds text, so we'll be somewhat prepared for the fall. I'm in the Denver area.

42 people on the waitlist...that's ALL? :wink2: I was #1104 on our waitlist and was on it for three months shy of three years when I got my spot. When I got on the list, they were only up to something like #750. It worked out well for me as I had plenty of time to get my pre-reqs done and complete a couple of co-requisites ahead of time, so I wouldn't have to take them while I was in the actual nursing program.
  12. Hey there GeneralJinjur, nice to see you here again :heartbeat Happy snow day! Kristen, that stinks about losing the A! In the program I'm in, an A is 93% and higher...which is different from all the pre-reqs, where 90% and up was an A. Blah.
  13. We have to wear ours to lab and clinicals, but not to lecture or pharm.
  14. Thank goodness our color is purple! Though I look like a little purple stick walking around in the scrubs LOL! Since you have to wear white, make sure to have nude-colored bras and underwear! As for shoes, I bought a pair of Dansko Professional clogs; they're pure white...at least until somebody pukes/poops/bleeds on them
  15. I've taken all my pre-reqs online at CCCOnline.org. It's a Colorado-based community college system, but we've had students from other states in several of my classes. You will need to check with your school to see if they would accept transfer courses from them, though.
  16. Hi Denise, nice to "meet" you :) I have three children also! See you a week from Monday!
  17. I'm in for Spring 2009! That means I will have been on the wait list for about 33 months by the time classes start :wink2: Who is in with me? I met a few people at my CPR class this past weekend, so there will be at least a couple familiar faces at orientation!
  18. I'm 1104 and got on the list in May 2006. I have all my pre-reqs done so I'm taking pathophysio and MAT 103 this fall to get ahead of the game. I think I'll be in the class starting January 2009.
  19. Believe me, she wasn't much of a contact :angryfire I was always scared to call her because she was soooo grumpy all the time, and I was afraid she was going to get ticked at me and somehow "lose" my info, and I'd be off the list. By the time I get in to the program, I'm going to be 80 years old! Well, okay, not THAT old, but I'll be creeping up on my 41st birthday by the time I graduate. Okay, now that I typed that, I feel elderly
  20. I thought CCC was entirely OUT of the process, ever since the schools took over their own waitlists again...? I got on the CCC list in May of 2006 and could NOT get the woman in charge to give me a number. hen she DID give a number to a friend of mine who got on the list in August of 2006...then completely denied to me that she gave my friend a number! I was happy to hear that ACC was back in charge of their own stuff, and I finally got a number this past September. Going by the number that they've worked up to (I think a previous poster on this thread said it was 956?), I will probably be in ACC's program that starts in January 2009. I agree that it's a huge mess. The only good thing about it is I've been able to leisurely take my pre-reqs!
  21. Did anybody take stats online? I signed up in August but dropped it (before the class even started) because I received a e-mail pretest...which I failed miserably LOL! But I'm enrolled again for spring '07 b/c I have to get it finished or I can't start my BSN program in June (if I get accepted).
  22. There's no option but this wait list -- all the CCs in the metro area are under the same wait list with the CCCS (Colorado Community College System) program. You can select I believe three programs on which to be on the list, so there's no other ADN route unless one applies for the ADN program with DSON...it's the only Denver-metro-area program (that I'm aware of) that isn't associated with the CCCS list. If I understand it correctly, if a spot is available at, say, ACC, they take the next person on the list and offer them the spot if ACC is listed as any of that person's choices. Someone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that :Santa1:
  23. I wish I could enroll there, but it's impossible with my kids' schedules, and a husband that's gone about 75 hours a week. I'll have to personally stick with paying out the nose for a BSN program LOL!
  24. It's ridiculous how poorly-run the whole wait list thing seems. I've gone ahead and applied for UCHSC and will probably also apply at DSON since I already have a B.S. I just wanted to try to go the ADN route first due to the cost of the BSN programs, but in the extra years I would be sitting around on my booty, waiting to get into an ADN program, I could be through a BSN program, start working, and be making some money to pay off any loans...not to mention the fact that I plan to work in a hospital for a while and get some loan forgiveness. Sigh...
  25. I'm just so frustrated with the CCCS wait list situation, regardless of whether or not I need two more classes I finished the wait list prereqs in May, immediately updated my file and called to get put on the list, and now, seven months later, nobody will give me my wait list number. I know that the number itself isn't very telling as to how close I am to actually getting into the program, due to people who have dropped off the list and haven't notified CCCS, but still! I'm getting VERY concerned that there is something fishy going on. I mean really, how long does it take to get the doggone list put together properly??? There's my vent for the day :icon_wink:
