Online NP Programs
I am currently studying at Frontier Nursing University and highly recommend the program. It is based in Kentucky and has a rich history, and a great reputation. There are a couple required campus visits. A great school. The faculty really work hard to see you succeed.

The Problem with Nursing
This may seem simplistic, but other people's opinions shouldn't be the reason for entering or leaving a profession. What matters is your opinion of what you do and how well you do what you do. While respect is nice, I could care less if 99% of the nation thought nursing was a unrespectable profession. I got into it and will stay or leave for my own reasons/desires.

The problem with multiple preceptors...
I completely understand how frustrating this is. By my 6th week I have had NINE preceptors. Some of whom have just got off orientation themselves.

I need help with doing a care plan for a patient starting on insulin
I think a lot of people can get hung up on "related to" and the "as evidenced by" (also called "manifested by") "Related to" is the cause (etiology) of the diagnosis. For instance: my acute back pain is related to (caused by) the improper use of body mechanics and muscle weakness. "As evidenced by" or "Manifested by" is the objective and subjective signs and symptoms. For instance: my acute back pain is evidenced by rating my pain as a 6 on the 0-10 pain rating scale, grimacing, and/or comments such as "my back hurts so bad"...etc Hope that helps

Heads up to all new nursing students:
The OP is correct that each person is different, but let me add that there is a reason the majority of current and past nursing students say nursing school is hard. (it is). However, keep in mind that the majority of these students have passed or will pass nursing school. :) Keep plugging away.

How do you draw up meds for IVP?
That's how I was trained. If fluids are not infusing I flush, push the med, flush. If fluids are infusing I just push. (all things being compatable of course) :)

took the nclex yesterday, shuts off @ 75, did the pvt, went straight to cc page
There is still a chance you passed. Only the good pop up is fully reliable. Keep checking. With the amount of studying you have done and the experience with the exam I would be surprised if you failed at 75.

is Nursing School HARDER than Medical School?
Just sayin' (music parody begins at 50 seconds into video) :)

Question about how blood becomes oxygenated.
You are absolutely correct. It is easy to get things switched around expecially when you read something wrong. :) Thanks

Question about how blood becomes oxygenated.
That is true except in the case of the lungs. The pulmonary vein carries oxygenated blood from the lungs to the heart.

Nursing abroad, nurses without borders???
As always be careful to find a reputible place. I learned the hard way by contacting an organization through missionfinder.org and when I went to the location I found out they are crooks using an orphanage as a way to get money. Happens way more than we realize.

Supplies/Tips for LPN School
Congrats!!! I would recommend a large desk calendar or the Uncalendar. Organization and time management are key.

Free CNA training video series
Here is a free CNA video series put out by Lippincott. I think it will be helpful for people starting out in the program or for those who want to refresh their skills. If you click on any of the 15 chapters you will find they are further narrowed down to specific skills that you can choose from. Hope this helps many of you. http://andromeda.westerntc.edu/instruction/HPS/CNA/or_index.html

Stay at Home Mom for 9 years......
I am graduating in May, and I am quite nervous about not finding a job. Before entering nursing school I was a stay at home Mom for 9 years. Prior to that I had minimal CNA experience (took care of a quadrapalegic in his home). I was also a Realtor and a dental assisstant for a brief time. I also did some overseas volunteer work in Africa and Haiti. Is there adice out there for me regarding my resume with so little work history?

If he is stable, impaired verbal communication is a safe bet. :)

Mathematically. challenged
This will help put your mind at ease: Nursing math is pretty easy (at least in nursing school). I am at the end of third semester and so far it has been just formulas of basic addition, subtraction, multiplying, and dividing. You just can't take it lightly or make errors.

Taking pharm, physio, & microbio same semester??
My advice: Don't take all those classes together. It may be doable for some people, but you want to give yourself time to learn the material.

Help With Nursing Care Plan
IMHO due to her dementia, her increase in care needs, urinary and stress incontinence etc I would focus my diagnosis more on the risks for skin breakdown.
-
Nursing Fundamentals
I found nursing fundamentals to be one of the easier classes. My advice is to stay on top of the readings.

Anyone here who hate the holidays?
What I really find funny is the irony in pointing out a grammatical mistake while making your own. :) You should have added a question mark on the end of the headline instead of a period. "Anyone Here Who Hates the Holidays?" For future reference, periods always go inside quotation marks.

Why do people belittle others to make themselves feel better?
I had a nursing student tell me "I can't stand overachievers" Yet she is the one who has to be the first at everything. She tries to be the one in control of the situation. She even walked up to me and grabbed a paper out of my hand so she could use it. Go figure. I don't think some people even know how they act or what they say half the time. Maybe nursing school rewires our neurons. LOL
