  1. That's a great song, Carolina! My thoughts are with you as you wait for the results. I know it's a crappy feeling. . . maybe you can watch a hilarious movie today?! Seemed to help me.
  2. 1. how many questions did you take on nclex? 75 questions 2. what study materials did you use? did you take a test review course? test review course offered by my son books: saunder's nclex-rn comprehensive review & questions w/cd prentice hall's comprehensive nclex-rn review w/cd 3. did your son offer any testing (eri, ati, hesi)? ati--predictor said 99% chance of passing nclex 4. how long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting? 45 hours til posted on bon website 5. what were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? what? only 75? i'm done?!?! i knew i got a lot of questions right, but there were a few that i couldn't get over! 6. was this your first attempt at nclex? yes & i passed!!!
  3. Welcome to that rite of passage that is waiting for NCLEX results. I know exactly how you feel!
  4. 5-6 sata questions and passed with 75 questions. my tip--practice practice practice. do the practice questions.
  5. Looks like the CD helped me----- I PASSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. 2 minutes ago, I read: ACTIVE in the column next to RN. Glory Glory Hallelujah
  7. Maybe I should put it this way--if you feel like you might be a complete basketcase, or you have such anxiety that you won't be able to think, reschedule it. We all know what the sympathetic nervous system does. Stress makes you stupid. Your brain is not working properly during stressful times. I know people who have test-anxiety and it got in the way of their success on the NCLEX. Do what you have to do to relax a couple days before the test.
  8. This whole waiting game SUCKS. I am on pins and needles as I wait. I can't be happy until I see "active" next to my name on the BON website. I keep checking it, hoping something has changed. I'm going to try and sleep so that when I wake up, it will show results! It should by tomorrow at 0600. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
  9. Well, I haven't received my results yet, but the computer shut off at 75 and I know I got a lot of questions right. . . I agreet that practicing questions is vital to your success. Be comfortable answering questions. It makes you feel a lot better if you know how to narrow down the answer, especially since you might get a question about something you have never heard of. I encountered that, but I was able to use my test-taking skills to get the answer right! (I looked it up when I got home). I did review certain subjects that I forgot about, or had trouble with. Good luck with your studies. Believe in yourself. If you feel like you are not ready, reschedule.
  10. I can tell you that if you have your prerequisites complete, the wait shouldn't be too long. All I know for sure, is that Everett CC does not use a wait list. Many people who apply don't actually have all the prereqs completed. It is important to check off/highlight the things you have done as you begin to apply to schools. If you are ready and motivated, I really think you can find a public school to attend. No sense in paying huge costs for a private school. We all take the same NCLEX in the end. Good luck.
  11. I heard a rumor about that months ago, and chose not to believe the rumor-monger. I'm glad I did, because you are right. I took the LPN exam so I could work during the summer before my last quarter of nursing school. It was easy as pie for me. The RN was a doozy. I still think I did okay, but it was hard.
  12. Took the test this AM. The CD I made for the ride there definitely helped lessen the anxiety. I also brought my iPod and had to pull it out in the waiting room at the test center--the anxiety level in the room was HUGE--full of at least 10 nurses-to-be plus other test takers. Well, guess what, that level of anxiety is NOT helpful. So, I transported myself to la-la land until my # was called. 75 questions--2 math, 4-6 SATA, lots of prioritzation, and random questions. I feel like I knew a lot of the answers, and on other questions, I used my test-taking skills. 2 days until I find my results posted on the BON website.
  13. I just bought this song on iTunes. Love it!!! Thanks for the suggestion! It's the last song on the CD. If we get to the testing center before "Just Fine", I will fast forward so we can shake out our nervous energy! Thanks to posts on this thread, I also added-- Pat Benatar--Hit Me With Your Best Shot The Five Stairsteps--O-o-h Child This probably sounds crazy to all of you who are still studying, but I am so excited to take this test and be done with it forever!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. i love this thread!!! i'm making a "road to nclex" cd right now, and thought i'd see if anyone on here did the same thing. i was looking for more songs to add. my nclex playlist (so far): brandi carlile--follow *this song got me through nursing school* patty griffin--i don't ever give up john legend--sun comes up brandi carlile--late morning lullaby kelly clarkson--breakaway missy higgins--steer u2--stuck in a moment you can't get out of alicia keys--superwoman kelly clarkson--thankful fleetwood mac--don't stop elton john--i'm still standing i'm starting the cd with slower songs, as the 3 of us carpooling drink our coffee/tea. then, the songs will pick up the pace. we'll be driving in morning commuter traffic. nclex tomorrow 0800.
  15. Believe in yourself, and it will shine through! I am a new grad who interviewed at 2 hospitals, both jobs are in specialty units--NICU and L&D. I was offered both jobs! *Dress well--while you have lots to choose from--I'll tell you what I wore--basic black or brown slacks and a very nice sweater (helps me rationalize the $$$ I spent on it. . .from Nordstrom). *Bring your resume and cover letter (even if they have it in digital form. . . the real deal looks so much better!), letters of recommendation, your transcript (if you'd like to show that you got good grades/not necessary, but if you did really well, show off!) *Make eye contact *Show a little personality. You don't need to be dull to be professional. *Show them that you want the job--you are motivated and highly interested. They want to know that you'll still be there in year (or 2). *Before you go--think of a few stories from clinicals that show you have people skills--working with difficult people, families, or the great day where you knew that you made a difference in someone's life. *Ask Questions! About CE, orientation, why the position is open, just take some time to ask them something. *When all is said and done, go home and write a Thank-You note. Remember, this interview is your chance to show the hospital who you are! Be confident. You came this far, and you want the job you dreamed of!
  16. I have really enjoyed reading this thread. It makes me realize that choosing to accept a position in the NICU is the right choice for me. :)
  17. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. I take the exam on Wednesday. NCLEX-RN. I have been studying lots and doing lots of questions. I am so going to conquer this test! BTW--sorry to hear that some of you didn't pass the test this time around. My thoughts are with you.
  18. Congrats to the new RNs. I will be joining you after I take the exam on Wednesday. I have reviewed and have dones 1000s of questions. I am still doing questions today and Monday. Tuesday is my day off! Wish me luck! It sure won't hurt. . . :)
  19. Don't forget about the community colleges! They usually accept every quarter and are well-known for putting great nurses out into the world! Everett CC, Shoreline CC, Mt. Vernon's CC, Bellevue, just to name a few. Check 'em out! If you have your prereqs done and have decent grades, you stand a good chance. :)
  20. Be persistent. Apply online. Make sure the resume/cover letter you upload looks good--no blatant errors, professinal looking. Call HR--speak with the nurse recruiter--tell her/him that you've applied online and are very interested. If you have an interview, be enthusiastic. Then, send a thank you note. Good luck!
  21. christinen--i was just going to post regarding pp notes. great minds think alike. :) teachers--pp notes are not as riveting as you think they are. just because you used a crazy font and bright colors doesn't make your notes good. actually, it makes them extremely hard to read, and i want to toss them in the recycle bin. i can look up everything you put on those notes in my very expensive books you had me buy. *for lecture, please throw in some anecdotes that help us remember material! *please tell us why we need to know the symptoms of a disease, tell us the cardinal sign, the very important lab value r/t the condition, that very special diagnostic test that confirms it--all things we need to know in the real world and the nclex! thanks!
  22. I figured out what I'll be doing the day before my NCLEX-RN exam. I'm going to have a marathon of NBC's The Office. The show is hilarious. It feels so great to laugh! I have all 3 seasons on DVD, so there's lots of laughter to loosen me up. :rotfl: I also plan on going for a walk, eating well, and of course--getting to sleep at a decent hour since the exam is at 0800. Back to studying. . . . P.S. Good luck to those who still have to take the test! Congrats to those who took the test already! What a relief.
  23. I just typed in "burning notes" into the search field, and found this thread. Interesting to see all the different perspectives. Why did I type that in, you ask? Well, I have just gone through 6 quarters worth of notes that were in 6 different 3" inch binders. I put 80% of them into bags that I will be tossing in a bon fire on New Year's Eve. I haven't felt this great in I-don't-know-how-long!!!! I am done with school!!!! What did I keep? NONE of the worthless PowerPoint notes my instructors loved. I kept fabulous tables that I made comparing arterio/venous ulcers, endocrine diseases, F&E imbalances, etc. The notes that I created are the best--hands down! I became the Queen of Making Tables in nursing school. Great learning tool! I also kept lecture notes from my fantastic mother/baby teacher. Other than that, and a few diagrams, I am free of nursing school! I always thought I'd turn to my notes for information, but like many people here, I use my book or the internet because it's much faster, and usually more reliable than my school notes. It's funny because when my friend told me about the bon fire, I said, "well, I wish I was done studying because then I'd throw in my notes." Then I hung up the phone, and thought --wait, do I really need these? I haven't used 'em yet, and probably won't use 'em. So, I found the ones that are useful and ditched the rest. I don't want to end up on Clean Sweep one day--"why do you have dated nursing notes?!" they'll ask.
  24. If nursing is what you want to do, don't give up. You may be able to retake the courses you didn't do so well in. First of all, you need to work on your study skills. Is there a learning center at your school? If so, I would look into it. If not, maybe there is a teacher that you reallly liked, who may be able to become your mentor. Maybe there is someone in your class that you could partner up with--you can learn a lot by watching someone else study--how they read, take notes, look things up if they don't understand. Find out how you learn best--visually/reading outloud/hearing someone else/reading? The time it takes to get into the nursing program may be longer, but if it's what you really dream of doing--go for it! I like the Emily Dickinson quote, "I dwell in possibility".
  25. Well, since you asked-- Just say NO. And then, call your state BON.
