pre-reqs

I am just curious, How long has it taken you (or will it take you) to finish your pre-reqs to be able to apply for the RN program? In the Fall it will be a year that I enrolled into college and I will be finishing my final pre-req, I feel that was too long.

It really depends on your course load and how your semesters work. I just finished mine up and it took me over a year with taking 3 classes each semester.

Typically it's 1-2 years, so your plan isn't uncommon. It all depends on how many classes you take per semester/quarter and how often they're offered. I took about 3 semesters at my university.

It took me about a year. More or less.

During my senior year of high school, I applied to a dual enrollment program at my university where I was given a grant to take chemistry. I also took AP stats in high school and tested out of stats. Then during the fall I took anatomy and critical thinking; winter I took micro, english, and public speaking, and this quarter I took physiology.

So I guess if you count what I did during senior year of high school, it took a bit more than a year. However, I still just say a year because I could have fit those classes (chem and stats) into a year if I really had to. I definitely think my school being on a quarter system made it easier to do them in a year though. Having 3 terms in a year vs. 2 in a year makes a big difference.

For my ASN, it took me 3 semesters. BSN would probably be 4-5 semesters depending on what's required.

It will be 2 years for me when I finish pre-reqs this fall. I could have done it in 1-1.5 years if taking classes full-time but that wasn't an option for me. 1-2 years is a pretty normal time-frame for most people taking pre-reqs.

People take various amounts of time. I spread seven classes out over a year and a half... But I work full time and those hours aren't flexible. Some people zip right by in less than a year and some take two years or more. There is no right answer.

It will take me two years, but I have to do Gen Bio 1 and 2 before I can do A&P. By the time I apply to nursing school, I will only have to do the core nursing classes.

Most of my pre nursing friends seem to take 1 yr to complete prereqs taking a full time load & 1 1/2-2 years on a part-time load. One of my friends told me about CLEP & DSST exams, which can help shave a little time off. I have 5 prereqs to take & I plan on taking the CLEP exam for 2 of my prereqs. I am shooting for completing my prereqs in 8-10 months.

I was part time and took me three years to complete my pre-reqs (including my core classes). Now I start nursing school in the Fall. Not to mention I was accepted into both programs I applied to. It really is about your science pre-req GPA, your test scores, how many classes you've completed (especially for ADN since they like it when you complete core classes for your BSN), and your community involvement.

I was accepted into Collin College and WGU - SoCal (Pasadena Huntington Memorial Hospital co-hort).

Hope this helps.

I took 3 years to finish mine (I went to a CC; it was hard getting all of the classes I needed)

I started my pre-reqs fall of 2014, had to drop my classes, went back spring of this year ('15) and am just now starting pre-reqs all over again in the fall. So, I've wasted 2 whole semesters and now I have to wait 2 more, but that was my fault. But at my local community college, you only need A&P 1 and 2 and College Algebra before you can apply. That only takes 2 semesters unless you need remedial courses, so 1 year also.

My calculations is 2 years but since I got a NP in Math and my very first D in another class it might be 2.5 yrs *sigh* - Summer 15 it'll be 1 year
