80 or above is passing!

An 80 is a b in my book. Most college and universities are on the 10 point scale here in NC so an 80-90 is a B and 90-100 is an A. So that means I have to have a B average to pass. It's a little steep if you ask me. The saying that "C's" gets degrees can go out the window as far as I'm concerned.

That's rough. Our course has a 70 requirement as per the college, although you were grilled if you got anything less than an 80. Fortunately I'm well above that with an 85 average in both my courses right now (which is actually one of the high grades). I'm graduating next week.

In my nursing school, you had to make 84 or above. An 83 in anything was automatic failure, and you couldn't retake that class for a period of one year, if then. A 94 and above was an A; 90 to 93 was a B; 84 to 89 was a C. My class tried to challenge the A requirement, but the school refused, saying they weren't lowering their standards. Out of my class of 66, only 22 of us made it to graduation. This was an ADN program. The BSN program was much, much more lenient.

Sorry, but the old saying "C's get degrees" does not apply to nursing. You will have people's lives depending on you.

We had to take a math class at the beginning of every semester. You could miss one, period. Miss two, you were out.

Higher passing standards in nursing programs are to ensure that students learn what they need to know in order to pass NCLEX on the first attempt.

Is there actually any proof to this?

Mine is 80 as well. Study hard and you shouldn't have a problem.

78 in my current program and 75 in my previous program ( passing) and rounding does apply in both programs.

I think it really depends on the school.

80 is the passing grade at my former school and there is talk of bumping that up to 84.

I think that's about right. I go to a Minnesota school and anything below 78 percent is fail. We also have to average 78 percent or higher for our exams. I definitely was nervous about this when I started but I've been doing just fine. Just remember to never slack off and every point counts! They don't round up as well. So 77.9 percent is fail..
