My mom has a surgical wound that needs to be packed. We are to use the non medicated 1/2 inch gauze packing strips. They (home health) did not order them they forgot. I have tried CVS, and Rite-aide none had them. Where can i get them. I have enough for tonight but none for morning and the HH people cant get them until Tuesday.

Wouldn't they have a on call nurse to bring them ?
You would think. We have had a horrible time with these people the from the first day.

I would call the PCP in the am, as they may be able to help you better than an online forum.

if there's an on-call nurse for the HH agency, call and ask where they get them...

I use them daily. They cannot be found OTC usually. We order them from mckesson medical supply company and insurance pays. Contact the HH immediately. You should not have to buy your own supplies for a wound under nursing care.

A local surgical supply/DME provider to just hold you over? Keep your receipts.

Your HH agency should have had it overnighted to you. And the nurse should have had some back up 1/4" in their car stock. Poor form!
Her surgeon's office will likely have it.

Yes to the above. I always ask for a few supplies from hospital prior to discharge.
Thank you all for telling me that its not at normal stores saved me.lots of driving. The HH agency never called me back...... One of the surgeons NP had some in her car so she met me at coffee shop to get it to me. She said she keeps that stuff in her car bc they do followup and people run out at times.
This agency is either a joke or focus on the long term patients more. They have been a complete nightmare the first day the guy showed up 3 hrs late and did not have all the basic equipment such as a stethoscope or a thermometer.

Sounds like you may have been referred to a non-skilled or HHA supervising agency rather than skilled home health.
