NVCC Fall 2020

I wish I could get some real advice and info from the mec counselors, they really aren't all that helpful. I don't want to spend 1000 in the fall and take bio 150, get an a and still not get in. I really don't know what to do with the situation. I will be pretty upset if I don't get in next round even with ALL a's in all classes.

If we didn’t get in for Fall and the TEAS gets waived again (won’t know until July), what would change as an applicant who applied and didn’t get in? The next cycle is coming up from July 20 - September 20. It just didn’t seem fair for people who did all the requirements, got the best grades, and still not get in. The way they ranked them seems off to me.

So I keep seeing "completed" co-reqs...does this mean your grade in the co-reqs doesn't matter, just that you completed the class? For the Spring I will have 3 out of 4 co-reqs completed with all A's, A's in Bio 141 and PSY with a 3.8 cum GPA. Since Summer term already started I can't take my final co-req since it isn't offered. So basically I feel like I"m screwed in applying for the Spring because without TEAS scores we're in the same boat as fall where the 4/4 co-req people will get in.

I'm in exactly the same boat as you. It is really disappointing and wrong if a c in a co req still got someone in. Whats the point then of it being competitive.

Yea, not cool. I feel the same way. I CANNOT believe they are not using the TEAS again. They should refund us for the hundreds of dollars spent studying for that test in order to be "competitive". yeah, that was disappointing! I spent a lot of time and effort studying, too ?

but can I ask how you spent hundreds of dollars? in december, I paid for the practice tests A&B, bought the official book off ebay about ~$9, then did mometrix practice tests every day in January (30 day trial, free)... and I thought it was more than enough. about all I could handle, anyway.

studying for the TEAS was not a waste. don't think of it that way! it also helps cover the studying for the HESI, and I personally appreciated the A&P review.

I applied before the march 20 deadline (wasn't aware of the extension) and had a 4.0 in my pre-reqs, completed co-reqs with As and one B. my overall GPA at NOVA wasn't great, but I also had 3.5+ GPAs from my other schools--but none of this should have affected the ranking according to the nursing brochure.

it really does seem like one of the ultimate selection factors was residence/tax payer status in the areas surrounding the school. I can understand that reasoning. it's common enough, although maybe it was taken to an extreme degree? (question mark, because there's no way we know for sure)

this acceptance/denial thing is extremely upsetting. I know it happens occasionally at all schools, but it's truly devastating!! I've been checking my emails obsessively anticipating a denial letter and it's nauseating. this is such a crappy situation.

did anybody else apply to germmana/lord fairfax/j. sargeant reynolds or any other vccs schools? some of them have hybrid programs so even if they're a commute, it's workable (with significant sacrifice).

The application period for the Spring is so soon that I’m rushing to retake my prerequisites (for As in bio 141 and psy 230) last minute because if I wait to take it in the fall, I’ll have missed the deadline. Waiving the TEAS exam is so unfair to those of us who have spent so much money buying books and taking the exam over and over for a competitive score.

I paid for the study package through TEAS website which was around 200 I think, then exam twice: 120. I upgraded the pocket prep which was like 30 or so. I did whatever I could to be competitive. I got 87.5 over all 95 in reading, 84 math, 83 science and 87.5 in English.

I'm thinking about taking a six week micro this Summer. I mean if the grade doesn't matter amd just having the course done is all that is assessed then screw it, why not!

did I miss something? did somebody say they earned a C?

the guidelines do state that you simply had to meet that threshold, so they kind of tic the box... but I didn't really believe that, assuming everybody applying would have an A or B.

I’m pretty sure someone said they got in with a B in psy230.

ohh that's right! I'm sorry, I was trying to add it up in my head--wasn't directly challenging you. those are great scores. it IS definitely frustrating that money was essentially donated at this point... and most other schools I know of take the HESI. ugh.

I’m taking the Sat/Sun AM Bio 150 and online CST for the second half of the Summer, if you need a study buddy! By then I’ll have all co-reqs with As (knock on wood) and 4.0 in pre-recs. My boyfriend and I were already planning on moving to Alexandria late Summer/early fall for his new job; I told him last night we need to move sooner rather than later so I can establish residency by Sept 20, LOL. Not much more I can do!
