  1. by the way, thanks for all your posts. they've been super helpful & informative!! how was your experience with castlebranch? I've heard weird rumors about the company and worried when I saw it mentioned in the email (no idea how to purchase it right now, I assume they'll let us know?)
  2. ohh that's right! I'm sorry, I was trying to add it up in my head--wasn't directly challenging you. those are great scores. it IS definitely frustrating that money was essentially donated at this point... and most other schools I know of take the HESI. ugh.
  3. did I miss something? did somebody say they earned a C? the guidelines do state that you simply had to meet that threshold, so they kind of tic the box... but I didn't really believe that, assuming everybody applying would have an A or B.
  4. yeah, that was disappointing! I spent a lot of time and effort studying, too ? but can I ask how you spent hundreds of dollars? in december, I paid for the practice tests A&B, bought the official book off ebay about ~$9, then did mometrix practice tests every day in January (30 day trial, free)... and I thought it was more than enough. about all I could handle, anyway. studying for the TEAS was not a waste. don't think of it that way! it also helps cover the studying for the HESI, and I personally appreciated the A&P review. I applied before the march 20 deadline (wasn't aware of the extension) and had a 4.0 in my pre-reqs, completed co-reqs with As and one B. my overall GPA at NOVA wasn't great, but I also had 3.5+ GPAs from my other schools--but none of this should have affected the ranking according to the nursing brochure. it really does seem like one of the ultimate selection factors was residence/tax payer status in the areas surrounding the school. I can understand that reasoning. it's common enough, although maybe it was taken to an extreme degree? (question mark, because there's no way we know for sure) this acceptance/denial thing is extremely upsetting. I know it happens occasionally at all schools, but it's truly devastating!! I've been checking my emails obsessively anticipating a denial letter and it's nauseating. this is such a crappy situation. did anybody else apply to germmana/lord fairfax/j. sargeant reynolds or any other vccs schools? some of them have hybrid programs so even if they're a commute, it's workable (with significant sacrifice).
  5. based on the letter, it sounds like there is a waitlist. they want people to confirm their attendance before July so they have the chance to offer the remaining seats to other students.
  6. yes, do that! this is what dogs were made for. to you and to everybody (and as a personal reminder): keep moving forward, like a shark. just don't give up. honestly, a little more optimism would have gotten me a lot further a lot sooner just about everywhere in life. plus my skin would have looked better. hey CONGRATS! and yes! I only shortened it to 'acceptance' because I was a little frazzled & the acceptance is only based on doing steps 1-4. I'm sorry to hear that--it's utterly confusing. our stats do seem pretty similar. I wonder if it makes a difference where in fairfax county you live/pay taxes? I do live within the MEC's zipcode, but my understanding is that simply living in-county grants a bonus. compared to other programs, nvcc's selection criteria is less of a black box than others but... at the end, it's still a black box. good luck in Spring--pushing back the acceptance deadline made this unusually competitive.
  7. I just got my emailed acceptance and hope it wasn't a mistake. despite a low overall GPA, I completed all prereqs (4.0) and I'm a resident of fairfax county. I also completed the TEAS and felt like my score was competitive, though I know this wouldn't have factored into it. as a pessimist, I'd been having recurring dreams that I didn't get in so I felt prepared and ready to do more classes and a cna program in preparation for re-applying in the Spring. good luck to everybody. edit: I'm honestly pretty shocked. maybe it was a mistake? haha, very nervous but also very excited! definitely going to order take out tonight and hug my dog ?
  8. We also had to cancel our already modest ceremony and get it done with a local celebrant. It can be hard to stomach competing emotions of excitement and disappointment. But anyway, congratulations!! Hope you're finding enjoyment during the weirdest honeymoon ever. Whatever happens, at least we're all better adapted to navigate unpredictable situations. Wishing you (and all of us in the thread) best of luck ?
  9. same here!
  10. thank you so much for the update!! WOW!! hearing about the sheer number of applicants is giving me so much anxiety for everyone involved! with these kinds of application numbers, I wonder how they'll select applicants. couple of questions! -will there be any new factors introduced to rank students? -how do transferred grades affect rankings? (for example: earning an A on PSY230 or BIO141 at another VCCS school which becomes a "T" at NVCC) -and can I ask how many students were moved forward to the ranking phase?
  11. thanks for updating this thread!! just submitted my application, though I wish I'd been able to retake the TEAS. I know there must be alternative testing methods but everything is so chaotic right now. fingers crossed and good luck to everyone!
  12. Hi! Couple questions: Do Bachelor's degrees from other institutions satisfy the criteria for earning co-requisite course points? And do honors options for PSY230 or BIO 141 count for anything?
