Needing shoes

New nurse on the job and my feet were just aching when I got out of there! Esp in my heels. I'd like to ask fellow nurses out there what brand would be best!

I am a heavy woman so I know my weight is a part of it. But what brand would be good on the heels? I also don't have much of an arch.

Everybody's feet are different. There are several threads re shoes. To start, you might try adding a gel insole; this could be a cheap fix at $5-10. Or spend a bit more for the custom Dr. Scholl's inserts. If $ is not an issue, you can get customized orthotics from a podiatrist or chiropractor.

I personally like skechers shoes but again everyone has their favorite. I regularly change out the insole every few months. I also alternate my pairs of shoes.

I am currently wearing the Brooks Addiction 10 shoes. I really like them. They are very supportive. I also have very little to no arch in my feet. I also over pronate as well. I was having significant ankle pain. Since changing to these shoes I have done so much better.

You can find them at Dick's sporting goods. I live near a fabulous store for runners where I bought mine. You can check them out on their web page. These shoes are kinda pricy at $110 but worth every penny.

I love allegria. They are expensive (around 110) but worth the money ! They are super comfortable. Ive seen many nurses wear these !

Love my Danskos. Got them on clearance, will pay full price if needed next time. Have had them a year and other then some scuff marks ( plain white ones) and some tread wear, nothing wrong with them ( and I wear out shoes about every 4-6 weeks when I wore regular tennis shoes)

I've been considering buying nursemates (dove)! They are super light weight and very comfortable! They are around 60 dollars. You should go to a uniform store and try some on.

I know alot of people that love Dansko. They are a little pricey but they last forever and many of the nurses I know swear by them. Advance is having a sale on them right now...they also have some other shoes including the Allegria that I saw mentioned here, but I don't know if they are on sale.

Your feet will pretty much ache no matter what shoe/sock/insole you use until you get used to it.

I have had a pair of Sanita clogs for a couple Months now. I love them! My feet (arches and heels especially) used to ache after my 12 hour shifts. Honestly now my feet do not hurt one bit after those long shifts. The first 60 hours wearing them my feet were sore, because there was auch robust arch support compared to my old tennis shoes.

I also really like that I can wipe them down easily with a sani wipe. I don't know the actual statistics, but I would think the laces & mesh of tennis shoes would harbor a lot of germs. A patient projectile vomited all over me & my new sanitas the first day I wore them. I was actually relieved that I had them on, because I was able to just wipe them off with a couple sani wipes.

After suffering during my clinicals wearing regulation shoes, my mom bought me the timberland professional shoes. They come in white, blue, black, and maybe brown. They are SO comfortable I feel like I'm walking on clouds.
