Took the test in Feb. 2011, failed with 265 questions, got discouraged and didn't think about studying again until now, took Kaplan review before testing but I was really weak in content so it really didn't help me, also used Saunders, got a lot of prioritization questions, near passing in every field except one according to test results, I graduated in 1993 from a foreign school so my content is pretty much forgotten, currently have Saunders 5th edition, Exam Cram 3rd edition and LaCharity 2nd edition, not much of a note taker when I was in nursing school, more of an auditory/visual learner back then with good memory/recall, now my memory/recall is not as good(have to keep re-reading to remember), thinking about the Hurst review but don't want to spend the money unless you guys/gals think it will help me pass the test, also having a hard time staying awake during study time, any advice is welcome, thanks.

I am a visual learner and I personally like the "memory notebook of nursing" series.

I would recommend hurst review. The instructors make the content fun and easy to understand. You'll also get some good study tips. Good luck.

I passed the nclex on my 4th time. Saunders worked for me. It helped me alot because it went over content...which I needed. Keep practicing questions and don't give up. Good luck!!

The point of all of those HESI tests after each semesters is for you to review just how your content knowledge is. What you should have done is to remediate any content shortcomings you had right after you took the HESI. The NCLEX is all about testing your analytical skills and nursing assessment knowledge.
If you need help with content before you take the NCLEX, the Kaplan review book (the one you get with the Kaplan class) did a very good job of summarizing all of the content you should have learned in school.

I just passed the nclex RN exam and I read the Kaplan strategy book, entire Saunders, and entire LaCharity. I also practiced questions using nclex 4000 disk. I did about 2000 practice questions before taking the exam. I never took a review course but Saunders and LaCharity were awesome study books!

I did question after question on those cd's. Got there to take the exam and had soooo many SATA I almost cried. Just reading this brought back horror! I wish you the very best of luck and please keep us all posted. Rest well the night before, have a plan to take your breaks, take some deep breaths. I found I was more anxious than usual.
I agree, I read all the rationales from Saunders whether I got the answer right or wrong!!! Saunders totally helps with understanding content!!!

I got a 965 on the HESI, studied like heck on the areas it said were my weak ones (used Saunders and I bought NCLEX review made incredibly easy--b/c I enjoy their periodicals, although I didn't use the book much and I bought a flashcard box of meds, used that a lot!) Then BAM, a buttload of SATA's! FWIW, what HESI said I was weak on and I studied the snot out of, did not appear on my NCLEX exam, LOL! However, I passed on the first try, around 200 questions. Yes, I was sweating bullets....

I did the Davis Q& A book and highly recommend it! The questions are very tough, and it includes a lot of alternative format questions that were very helpful! The questions were so similar to the NCLEX, I almost thought I had seen some of my NCLEX questions in the book.
