Need a Job!

Published

I have 9 years of ICU experience at a Major Level 1 Trauma Center in a different state. I have an ADN. I can't even get an interview!? What the heck is going on!? I've been applying for 3 months.

I need suggestions. I live slightly east of Hartford.

Where you applying? You might have trouble getting a job with an ADN here at a level 1 since the only 2 are BSN preference. If enrolled in a BSN program have a good chance though.

Not sure your preference of region of the state. However, Danbury Hospital has an awesome cardiac department. I know they have a 36 hour med surg ICU opening if want to give it a whirl. Brand new ER so have a lot of new toys to play with.

Saw near Hartford area you can also can try Day Kimball, Eastern Health Network, think St. Francis might take ADNs not enrolled in a BSN, John Dempsey Hospital I think might take ADNs (Process could be lengthy) I know they have openings in step down units and intensive care units, and not sure but Hospital of Special Care could try there...those might be your best bet's. Also St. Francis Hospital has a few medical center's...example Johnson Memorial Medical Center up in Stafford they are always looking for ICU nurses.

Most critical care areas in the hospitals I've seen require a BSN.

Hello, I know this is an old post and thank you for everyone who replied. I have applied for multiple listings at multiple hospitals over the past year....to St. Francis, Hartford (as RN and as aide), Hartford's Windham, Manchester, UCONN, Middlesex I've had 2 interviews with UCONN, 1 with St. Francis, a phone screening with Middlesex, and one interview (with a two-hour long "shadow", suggested by manager during the interview) with Manchester. I've also tried insurance companies: Travelers, Metlife, and Aetna.

I don't have B.O. I'm polite. I dressed for success and my resume and cover letter are well-written. I was prepared for my interviews. I'm so frustrated at this point that all I can do is cry. We moved here from another state for my husband's job and have now just about depleted all of our savings and have three children. Going back for my BSN is financially impossible at this time.

Again, thanks for any advice and I'm sorry to vent, but I'm at the end of my rope :(

Hi,

Have you tried Bristol Hospital or New Britain General Hosp? Those might be options to try to apply to, because you have 8 years of experience! It'd be a shame of them to overlook you simply because of the lack of a BSN. You could always work there for a few years and then go back for BSN.

I know you pain! I came to CT 2 months ago from NM, where I worker as a med surge RN. All my tries to find a job were unsuccessful... I am going with agency now - just to get my foot in the hospital!!! I only got a call from Bridgeport hospital human resources, I have been told that without a bachelor degree in nursing or BSN---I would never pass even an initial hospital screening... However, for agencies my associate RN just fine! Strange... Well, I am applying for the online RN-to RN-BSN bridge program now. As soon as I actively enrolled and started--- job looking situation should get better for me... For now, I will start my first ever 13 week contract with Millennium agency, at least they don't ask to sigh "non compete" paper and give me a small bonus... Good luck to you!!!

Try St Vincent's behavioral health in Westport they are always hiring . You apply through main hospital webpage st Vincent's medical center

Specializes in Psychiatry.

Day Kimball is cutting jobs. Windham cut jobs. Anything owned by Hartford Healthcare is either cutting jobs or only looking at BSN. Middlesex is magnet therefore will only hire BSN.

You won't get a job at Middlesex, Hartford, Manchester, Windham, think UCONN/St. Francis they all require you to have a BSN to even consider you. It's a stinker! A lot of the hospitals in the state are in financial crisis some switching over to magnet status to receive federal money to survive or other's merging with larger hospital's; in doing that these hospitals are aqquired by these hospital's who require a BSN. Basically in the end most hospital's will want a BSN. In addition, so many student's are being pushed out of the flood gates of ADN programs in the state that many hospitals are not in need of nurses or just can't hire again due to budget issues. However, can try rehab facilities or nursing homes in the state.
